Chapter 38: Chapter 38: The Refining Steel Has Turned into Soft Silk

Alan Morgan rushed to the bar, only to find out when he arrived.

"He left?"

Alan Morgan stared, his eyes wide, his face filled with disbelief.

Damn it, even Boss stood him up! This world truly is full of malice.

The shipment was robbed—such a huge deal—and he just up and left?

"Did Young Master Peary leave any instructions when he left?" Alan Morgan asked the waiter with a hopeful look.

However, the only response he received was the waiter shaking his head.

Oh well. Alan Morgan shrugged. Then again, someone like Young Master Peary wouldn’t leave any message anyway.

Frowning, he turned and left the bar. After getting into his car, he thought for a moment and then made a phone call.

"Boss, are you kidding me? I’m really tired."

"We move tonight. Same old rules."

Alan Morgan nodded solemnly. After hanging up, he sat motionless in his car.

He hadn’t expected this to be the first thing he’d have to do upon returning. With a cold sneer, he made several phone calls one after another.

Meanwhile, Nia Mitchell was alone in the villa. Darkness had fallen outside, and Maxwell Peary still hadn’t returned.

"Young Madam, are you hungry?"

After hesitating for a good while, Frederick Goldsmith approached Nia. Seeing her sitting on the sofa, looking anxious, he wasn’t sure what he should do.

She was the first woman Young Master Peary had ever brought to the villa, and the only one he truly acknowledged as his wife.

"No, but Uncle... when will he be back?"

Nia Mitchell stuck out her tongue playfully; she’d almost called him Uncle Peary. If anyone heard her addressing her own husband that way, wouldn’t it be too... well, awkward...

"That... I don’t know."

How could he possibly know Young Master Peary’s whereabouts? He wouldn’t dare to ask, either.

Nia Mitchell nodded. That’s true, she thought. Uncle Peary didn’t say when he’d be back before he left.

After thinking it over, Nia Mitchell decided to call him.

In an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Capital Town, a dozen or so men dressed in black sat around a large table, the atmosphere exceptionally tense.

RING RING RING...

A sudden ringtone shattered the silence. Everyone instantly quieted down, looking at one another.

This is bad! Someone actually dared not to turn off their phone during such an important meeting! Just look, Young Master Peary’s expression has changed!

Everyone wondered who had dared not to turn off their phone.

Then, Maxwell Peary took out his cellphone. His initially tense expression suddenly softened.

"Hm? Missing me already?"

Maxwell Peary’s gentle, low voice came through the phone. Nia Mitchell stiffened, goosebumps instantly prickling all over her skin.

"Who said I miss you?"

Nia Mitchell pouted coquettishly, only then remembering that he couldn’t see her over the phone.

"I just wanted to ask, when are you coming back? It’s already getting dark. You promised we’d go out for dinner to celebrate our marriage today."

Nia Mitchell bit her lip, sounding a little aggrieved.

Everyone exchanged glances, wondering who on earth was on the phone with Maxwell Peary.

Just then, Maxwell Peary suddenly frowned. Everyone immediately swallowed hard. Here it comes! they thought. Young Master Peary is furious!

But Maxwell Peary’s next words left everyone utterly stunned. They felt as if a mouthful of old blood was stuck in their throats, impossible to swallow or spit out.

"But I miss you. I’ll be back soon, just wait a little longer. Didn’t you buy a lot of snacks this afternoon? I’ll allow you to eat one bag to relieve your boredom."

Perhaps this was the first time Maxwell Peary had ever said so much at once.

"But... I’ve already eaten three bags."

Nia Mitchell’s characteristically sweet and soft voice came from the other end of the line. Maxwell Peary’s smile stiffened. Alright, he thought, he had underestimated that Rabina Mitchell.

"Then you can’t eat any more. If you eat too much, you won’t have room for dinner. Why don’t you watch some TV? Or my computer is in the study; you can play on it for a while."

Maxwell Peary seemed completely unconcerned that his computer contained countless business secrets, casually suggesting Nia use it to amuse herself.
