Chapter 37: Chapter 37: They actually hijacked Young Master Peary’s goods
Maxwell Peary furrowed his brows and turned to glance at Nia Mitchell.
"What’s wrong?"
Nia looked at him curiously. What could possibly make Maxwell Peary look so upset?
Maxwell shook his head silently, put down his phone, and stood up.
"You rest for a bit. I need to step out."
Nia looked perplexed but nodded anyway.
"Alright. Come back soon, and be safe. I’ll wait for you for dinner."
Maxwell’s hand paused as he reached for his coat, then he grunted in acknowledgment.
「Left-Right Bar」
The bar was a cacophony of flashing lights, fine wine, and deafening music, with men and women dancing wildly everywhere. Maxwell walked in, holding his breath.
"Young Master Peary, you’ve arrived."
A waiter greeted him and led him further inside. The noise diminished the deeper they went.
"Mr. Xiao is already waiting for you inside."
Maxwell didn’t reply, merely following the waiter into a small room at the very back.
"Young Master Peary, you’ve come."
Mr. Xiao shot to his feet, his face a mask of panic trying to conceal his unease.
"You’re saying there was a problem with the shipment?"
Mr. Xiao nodded. Beyond his panic, he was seething with anger.
"It was my negligence. I never imagined Hall Master of the Left would betray me, selling information about our goods to the Tiger Shark Gang. That’s why the shipment was ambushed en route."
After Mr. Xiao’s lengthy explanation, Maxwell listened, a smirk playing on his lips. Interesting.
"I didn’t expect you to have a traitor in your midst, Mr. Xiao."
And one you nurtured all the way to the position of Hall Master of the Left... Heh, isn’t that amusing?
"Ah... I, Xiao San, will personally bear the full loss for this shipment."
Mr. Xiao was still trembling, anxiously watching Maxwell’s expression after he finished speaking.
However, the man before him rarely let his emotions show on his face.
Maxwell slowly sat down, poured himself a glass of the wine on the table, and took a leisurely sip.
"The Tiger Shark Gang?"
Maxwell’s lips curled. What kind of third-rate gang is this? They even dare to intercept my goods.
"You’ve taken quite a tumble this time, Mr. Xiao," Maxwell said. "So, tell me, what do you intend to do?"
Mr. Xiao, startled, showed a fierce glint in his eyes.
"Everything they’ve swallowed, I’ll make them spit it all out, piece by piece!"
Maxwell set down his wine glass and adjusted his clothes.
"You don’t need to get involved. I’ll take care of it."
In Capital Town, no one has ever dared to intercept my, Young Master Peary’s, goods. These jumping buffoons... I wouldn’t usually stoop to their level, but they actually mistook me for a harmless kitten.
"Understood."
Mr. Xiao nodded, a wave of relief washing over him. His heart finally settled back into his chest.
"Then, if Young Master Peary has no other orders, I shall take my leave."
Maxwell nodded and poured himself another glass of wine.
Soon after, he took out his phone and dialed Alan Morgan’s number.
"Hey, Boss! Did you put a tracker on me or something? How did you know I was in Capital Town?"
Alan Morgan stood at the airport, luggage in hand, his face alight with excitement.
He had specifically returned early, hoping to give his boss a surprise.
"Oh? And what if I said I need you to handle something for me there?"
Alan was momentarily stunned, his expression turning to one of disbelief.
"No way! Boss, you’re not seriously messing with me, are you?"
A rare smile touched Maxwell’s lips. "Thirty minutes. Left-Right Bar."
Alan’s playful expression vanished, replaced by a serious nod. He had received news the moment he deplaned: their shipment had been intercepted.
Young Master Peary’s goods, intercepted right here in Capital Town! If word of this got out, everyone in the underworld would laugh their heads off.
