First Demonic Dragon -
Chapter 975 - 975: This Trip is Ruined!
Abaddon didn't smile, grin, chuckle, or guffaw.
If this was a joke, it was a terrible one.
Eventually, he laughed dryly out of spite. If only because he hoped that it would make Yemaja drop this act sooner.
"Ha-ha. Very funny."
Much to his chagrin, Yemaja set her lips in a straight line instead. "I'm not joking, Dad. I want him to go with you."
The temperature in the room only became that much warmer. The only one who looked comfortable in it was K'ael, who was blessed with obliviousness and heat protection.
Yemaja's gaze softened, and she stared at her father in a sentimental light.
"Dad, please. It would really mean a lot to me if you let him go."
Please, tell me that means something to you... She pleaded internally.
Abaddon's intensity had yet to waver.
"Ah, let's stop all this nonsense now." Asmodeus cut through the tension like a knife as he wrapped his arm around his granddaughter's shoulder. "No one here's got a problem with it. Right, men?"
Unlike when Aj was being voted on, the votes of agreement were significantly less enthusiastic this time around.
Ziz was no one's favorite housemate, that was true. But everyone was also wary of getting on Abaddon's bad side.
Except for a select few, who couldn't care less.
Darius: "Stop sitting there making that ugly bulldog face, you're upsetting my great niece."
Asmodeus rolled up a newspaper and started hitting his son on the nose with it. "Bad boy. Fix. Your. Face."
Belphegor: "And do something about this heat while you're at it. I like my nuts unroasted."
Jazmine: "Come on, big guy. Let us see that prize-winning smile."
Abaddon released an indecipherable grunt as he turned away.
Unfortunately, that seemed like the best anyone here was going to get for now.
-
A few minutes later, Courtney returned with Aj and another uninvited visitor.
"Umm… Hey, everybody." Aj waived.
"What's this I'm hearing about a trip?" Shin asked with an arched brow.
"It's a men's excursion, Tin-Can." Darius answered. "Goes back thousands of years, and it's tradition around here!"
Shin didn't miss the fact that two women were lingering around the group as if they intended to go. But he thought pointing that out might've been a volatile statement.
"Well, I hope you don't expect me to let my boy just go on this-"
"You can come too if you want." Darius offered out of nowhere.
"…Really?"
"Sure thing, Pinocchio, it might even make you a real boy again."
On the inside, Shin was grinning.
He couldn't wait to see the look on Abaddon's face when he heard that he was coming along. It may even cut the bastard's immortality short.
That was Shin's line of thinking before he told Abaddon of his plans to attend. He believed that his plan had no flaws and walked up to him with total confidence.
"Good news, Dragon. I'm coming along on this little excursion of yours. That wouldn't happen to be a problem, would it?"
Abaddon looked up from a glass of bourbon with empty, unfocused eyes.
"Hm…? Oh, sure. Do whatever you want, you piece of shit..." He went back to his drink.
"…"
Shin had never been so disappointed at a turn of events in his life.
"Alright, men!" Darius stood up. "Now, if we're all through with late additions, let's get this ball rolling!"
A round of cheers went up in the air- minus Abaddon's, that is.
Though as faraway as he seemed, he did remember something important. "Ah, right. Here."
He snapped his fingers, and a wooden tray appeared. On it were over twenty different vials containing glowing blue water.
"Drink these..."
"Don't mind if I do!"
Ever the alcoholic, Darius swooped in for a drink without even knowing what he was about to ingest. He just hoped that in the spirit of the excursion, Abaddon wouldn't offer them anything that wasn't going to give them a buzz.
He was wrong.
After uncorking the vial, he drank it's contents without reservation, the same way he did everything else. But aside from a refreshing feeling, he didn't experience any other benefits.
"What the hell… there's no burn… this is just water?"
"I never said it wasn't?"
"Tease."
"Alcoholic."
"Yea, yea."
Apophis picked up a vial and inspected it carefully. He let out a low whistle of surprise.
"You sure this is just water…? Planets don't even have this much magic inside."
Abaddon nodded. "It came from the spring underground. The water has been soaking in the power of the runes for all these months. Your mother theorizes that drinking it will allow us to hide from the egoless even outside of Tehom."
Apophis was a mother's boy and always impressed with anything they did. This time was no different.
"Cool. Leave it to Mom to figure something like that out." Apophis threw back the vial of water.
'Kiss-ass.' Abaddon thought.
Apophis' eyes suddenly bulged out and he gasped as a choked scream wrung it's way out of his throat.
'He heard me..?' Abaddon was prepared to be a lot more careful with his thoughts from now on.
However, Apophis' plight was entirely different from what his father was thinking. He wiped his jaw roughly as he held out the accursed vial.
"T-This... burns like alcohol..! What kind of water does that??"
Abaddon released a small sigh of relief. "Water that's been soaked in the power of indecipherable runes given by an incomprehensible deity."
Apophis looked down at the glass with a much less accusatory look.
"... Makes sense."
He then turned his gaze towards his Uncle Darius and stared at him with a much more disappointed look.
"...What?"
Apophis looked away and shook his head. "Alcoholic."
One by one, the men picked up their own vials and started drinking the burning water.
However, there were a few individuals whom Abaddon stopped before they could drink the full vial.
Namely, Mateo, Satan, Aj, and Shin.
"You four should probably drink the least amount of it that you can. Since you all are not Nevi'im, I'm not fully confident that it won't burn your esophagus beyond repair."
Aj gulped deeply as he held his suddenly dry throat.
"Thought you would have liked to see me burn from the inside out." Shin replied curtly.
"Yes, but that was before you started turning yourself into a transformer, and chickened out halfway through. I don't think I have an interest in seeing robots cry."
Shin ground his teeth together. His mind began to formulate some very unkind words for the dragon.
Boldly, he threw back the entire vial without reservation and let out a blatant 'Ah' of satisfaction.
His moment of defiance didn't last very long, though, because pretty soon, his face started to turn as red as the sun over the earth, and his eyes began to water.
"..." Abaddon took back everything that he said. This was worth it after all. His mood had been significantly elevated.
"Right-O, let's head out then!"
Darius opened up a mysterious portal and was the first to pick up his bags and start heading through.
Everyone else started to follow him, until they realized that they had no idea where they were going.
It was Darius' year to pick the destination, so that could only mean that they were going somewhere either remote and alcohol fueled, or heavily populated and alcohol fueled.
Thank the heavens for Nevi'im immunity to toxins. Or else everyone here would have already suffered from kidney failure by now.
All at once, everyone decided to go through with whatever was in front of them since it was too late to back away.
'Surely, things'll work out just fine. What's the very worst that could happen..?'
-
Black sand sparkled underneath the shining skylight of a black beach.
Torrential blue waves clashed against the shore as laughter and the smell of smoke carried far off the coast.
Courtney grumbled to herself as she looked down at her hands. Or more specifically, the sword that was taped to them.
"You didn't think we'd just let you come along with no strings attached after everything you pulled, did you?"
Courtney looked up at her grandfather, Hajun, wearing a pair of bright orange swimtrunks and a tan sunhat.
Though it wasn't as if he necessarily needed it. This planet's sun produced black light instead of regular UV light.
But perhaps he just felt as though it made him look stylish.
"I don't have any problem training or anything, but isn't this a little bit overkill..? I can't even feed myself without sticking my whole face onto the plate." Courtney sighed.
"Can't you though?" Hajun winked and held out a pack of cigars. "That's funny. I thought you were here to learn control."
For a moment, Courtney stared down at the pack of cigars as if she were sure her grandfather was joking with her.
And then she remembered that she had opened herself up to a great many powers recently. She just needed to concentrate.
She focused her eyes on the cigars in the pack.
It wasn't an easy task, as she crushed the first few without meaning to.
But after five minutes, she lifted a single, undamaged Cuban out of the package and commanded it to float towards her lips.
Opening her mouth, she placed one end gently between her teeth and lit the other end with a spontaneous blue flame.
As she tasted the first puff of smoke, her eyes lit up with excitement. "I did it!"
"As if there was ever any doubt." Hajun laughed merrily as he took off his own sunglasses and placed them over Courtney's eyes.
"Hey, congratulations, babe. " Aj said from beside her. "I would clap for you, but.... You know." Aj looked down at his arms, which were bound with interconnected beach towels.
"I'll give you a pass this time." Courtney smiled as she leaned against him.
Her head wasn't on his shoulder for five seconds before a giant tide of water knocked them both out of their chair.
Once again, everyone on the beach was reminding her of the retreat's only rule.
"NO PDA!!!"
