Chapter 36: We can do that.
Chapter 36: We can do that.
"Theodore."Troy said, giving him a warning glare.
"What?" He asked. "It’s a joke!"
"Theo." Tristan dragged this time, giving him a glare of his own.
"Fine. Just wanted to put away the sissy mode. I’m sorry." He apologized grudgingly, pulling out his phone.
"How did it go?" Tristan asked Cole, who was still working on reducing his anger levels.
"It went well. " Cole chipped, his voice hoarse. "I’ve had someone tail Luther and we searched the site, looked like everything relating to them were scrambled clean. No call traces, no remote documents, nothing."
Tristan sighed, leaning into his seat. "Did you check Tenebrous?" He said lowly, his gaze on the biro he twirled between his fingers.
"Yes, but like you already know, it was fruitless. That place is like an entire mafia. No one speaks to you, no matter what you do, or how much you are willing to offer." Cole explained.
"There’s always a way, Cole." Tristan bellowed, his gaze rising to meet Cole’s.
"I-" Cole wanted to defend but there was a soft knock on the door, his face already contorting in anger.
"Come in." Theo said, his eyes on Cole, watching it twist in anger.
The figure stepped in looking gorgeous as ever despite being in a casual outfit. The boys, except Theo offered a small smile as she walked into the room.
"Audrey." Troy said easily. "Fancy seeing you here. Haven’t seen you in a while."
"I was in school. I’m just coming in." She chirped, flipping her hair to the side as she pulled out a seat, feigning oblivion to her brother’s anger.
"I don’t remember hearing you enrolled for college." Theo commented in fake surprise. "Cole, you didn’t tell us. You know she’s like a sister to us." He said innocently, looking at Audrey, her façade was fading slowly.
’Shut it, Theodore.’ Troy hissed through their mind link.
"I didn’t remember. A lot has been going on." Cole said chuckling nervously.
"It’s okay, Cole. She doesn’t have to tell us anything." Troy pacified.
"Thank you." Audrey chipped, sighing quietly. "So, how have you guys been. Have you found your mates?" She asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
’She can’t even pretend.’ Theo muttered in his mind.
"Oh no, we haven’t. Have you?" Troy asked.
"Uhh..." She muttered for a few seconds. "Naa, I haven’t." She said swallowing.
’Oh wow, she’s lying.’ Theo muttered to himself. ’I hope she hasn’t murdered the poor guy.’
"Oh, I’m sorry about that. I’m sure you’d find him soon." Troy pacified again while Tristan sat back, his mind completely occupied.
"Uhh.. I don’t think I’m in a hurry." She muttered, smiling a bit.
"Oh, why?" Troy asked, his arms crossed around his chest.
"Well, I like someone else." She muttered, her eyes trained on Tristan whose gaze hadn’t left the biro between his fingers the entire time.
"Oh." Troy said, surprised. His mind already recalling what Theo had said concerning her crush on them. "I’m so sorry."
"You do not have to be sorry. It is what it is." She said looking down at her hands.
Not being able to handle the games anymore, Cole stood up from his seat. "Uh guys, please excuse us." He said picking his papers. " We can continue later in the evening, I have to speak to Drey about something." His commanding gaze on his sister, daring her to disagree.
"Uh.. okay." Audrey said, getting up from her seat. She couldn’t afford to be embarrassed.
"See you later, man. You should rest." Theo said, getting up from his seat. "And again, I’m sorry for that joke." He said, abit remorseful.
"It’s okay, man. Take care." Cole replied, nodding in acknowledgement. "C’mon ." He said to his sister, already walking out of the conference room, his sister trailing behind him.
"You’re a massive dick, Theodore." Troy spat as soon as he was sure they were out of hearing range.
"Yeah, yeah. And you’re the saint, yeah?" Theo snapped right back, pulling out his phone again, plopping into his seat.
"I’m not, Theodore. But atleast I know when to shut it. It’s more than obvious that you dislike her antics with every fibre of your being, you don’t have to push it on us.
"Stop correcting me, Troy. I’ve had just enough classes today." Theo said dismissively, not looking up from his phone.
"I’d say what I want to say, whether you want to listen or not. Girls her age are naturally delusional, it’s normal. You just have to tread quietly and show her that no matter what she might feel, you’d always and only be an elder brother to her. Not putting fire on her tail, ever step of the way." Troy said at once.
"And you really think she’d change, with all the experience you’ve got with women, you really think she’d change?" Theo said chuckling, shaking his head.
"People like her do not change, Troy. They remain that way and only progress the delusional part, without holding back. The only way to help them is to nip it in the bud as quickly as possible! If only you’d seen these women the way they really are then maybe we wouldn’t have to keep disposing bodies of the delusional women around you that you keep classifying as clingy."
"That’s enough, you two. She isn’t important right now. All that’s important is this fucking case. If she wants to be delusional then she’s free. I’m sure her brother has seen her nonsense and is working on it." Tristan said, his head in his palm.
"And Troy. Theo is right, she’s a different one. We can’t take her easily, but we would take her harshly either." He said turning to Theo. "She’s young, spoilt and stupid. If you take it harshly, you would speed up the delusional process and she’d become borderline stupid and dangerous. We have to tread carefully, okay?" He said, turning to look at them simultaneously.
"Yeah." They answered at once, his words sinking in.
"I have something to talk to you guys about." Tristan said, intertwining his fingers.
"What is it?" Theo said, sitting up properly, seeing how Tristan had become.
"It’s about Bethany. I met her last night."
"Oh. That explains where you hit the flask. Wait, you went to her house?" Theo asked, his mood taking a complete three sixty turn.
"Yeah, I did. She called me around eleven. Wanted to talk about something."
"Which is?" Troy asked, not enjoying the suspense.
"She wanted to know if she could be with us at the penthouse when her heat comes." He said, looking at the both of them.
"Uh.. yeah, Tristan. You already knew we were going to say yes. You have other concerns. What are they?" Troy asked.
Sighing, Tristan replied. "It’s coming soon." He clipped.
"And that’s a bad thing?" Theo asked this time.
"No and Yes. The thing is, we triggered it, and I’m worried that when the time comes, she might not be ready for ’us’. She might not want to go further, and you know how it can be for us during that period, we’d want it all. I’m worried we might hurt her."
Heavy silence flooded the room, engulfing every nook and cranny. They weren’t silent because they didn’t understand, but because they understood a little too well.
As Alphas, they go ravenous when their mates are in their heat, and so do their mates. The main essence of the heat is to get intimate and procreate, and holding back can be as tough as rock.
It could dive one into steep depression and probably madness if held for long, and that was something they weren’t willing to to try out on their mate.
After a while of thinking, Theo spoke up.
"I think we should talk to her about it." He said, not being able to think of any other way to get around it.
"How do we do that? We can’t just tell her that if she doesn’t sleep with us, the heat might turn out bad for not just us but her as well. She hasn’t even had sex before." Troy clapped back, even though he had no solutions of his own.
"We have to." Theo said, his gaze on his brother.
"She told us plainly what she felt, we have to tell her as well. Plainly. She might not have had sex before, and she might just be eighteen, but you and I know she’s way more mature than many other people her age. And I’m not sure she likes being kept in the dark. She’s a straight forward person, Troy, we have to be straightforward with her." He explained.
"I’m so nervous." Troy muttered, running his palm across his face.
"Me too." Tristan said.
"I am too, but we have to take this seriously. We finally have her, guys. Our own mate." Theo added.
After a while of silence again, Troy spoke up.
"When we’re telling her, we cannot force or cajole her. We just have to tell her the facts and let her decide. She’s a grown woman now."
"We can do that."
