Chapter 33: I Never Miss.
"You slept in here?!" Theo said walkng into Tristan’s office without knocking.
"As far as I know that isn’t any part of your damn business." Tristan muttered in anger, his voice hoarse as he rubbed his eyes, sitting up on the sofa he was lying on.
"Yes, it might not be, but your room is just behind that door." Theo deadpanned, pointing to a door that led to Tristan’s adjoining bedroom.
"And wherever I decide to sleep is none of your damn business, Theodore. Now would you stop talking?" He asked in annoyance, giving his brother a warning glare.
"Fine! Jeez. I forgot your not a morning person." Theo said, raising his hands in surrender, before going to Tristan’s desk.
"What were you working on?" He asked, scanning the sheets that lay in disarray on the desk. "Why do you have copies of bank statements of Luther Corporation on your desk?" Theo asked in utter confusion as he went through the documents.
"Theodore-"
"Who owns this flask?" Theo asked, already heading towards where it lay, beside Tristan’s inner drawers, dropping the documents on the desk.
"It’s smells delicious. Where did you buy it? You went to town?" Theo asked, throwing questions at the fuming Tristan, whose ass itched to leave that couch and pounce on his brother.
"Get out." Tristan bellowed, his eyes closed.
"Huh?" Theo asked, not sure he’d heard properly.
"Get out, Theodore. I’m about to forget you’re my brother." Tristan spoke again, his reddening eyes showing just how angry he had gotten.
"Oops." Theo muttered, lifting his hands again in surrender. " Okay, I’m leaving. Calm down." He tried to pacify as he walked quickly to the door, his feet silent.
"Sorry." He whispered, shutting the door as he stepped out of the office, coming face to face with Troy who looked confused.
"Uhh.. What happened?" He asked.
"I might have pissed him off." Theo explained, leaning on the door, his shoulders slouching.
"Might? That’s literally all you do." Troy retorted, reaching for the door handle.
"His on red, Troy. It looked like I dragged him out of a very good dream. I’d advise you to give him some time." Theo tried to reason with his brother. Not that they were afraid of him, but it wasn’t wise to poke a bear, when you could just go around it.
"Hmmm. You really outdid yourself then." Troy deadpanned, folding his arms across his chest. Just him and Theo in the long hallway.
"I didn’t do anything." Theo tried to defend. "Okay, I did do stuff, but it wasn’t anything new. He could have ignored me or something but he went red." He explained to Troy who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there.
"Well, Mister. We have to find a way to go in and let him know that Dad needs the monthly report on his desk by 10:30. And you know how that goes." Troy said, giving his brother at knowing look.
"Shit." The young man cursed running his hand through his hair.
"Look, Theodore. We have to go in there. Whether we are getting killed or not. Even though we know he wouldn’t. But you’re going in first." Troy said, leaving no room for arguments.
Sighing, Theo turned around, facing the door."I’d never come to see any of you in the mornings again." He muttered.
"Gladly. Now open the door." Troy said gravely from behind him.
Swallowing, he did as Troy said, taking a deep breath before walking into the room.
Just as he walked in, he saw a knife, fly beside him from his peripheral view and embedding itself in the wall, just beside his left eye.
Looking up at Tristan in shock, his lips fell open, completely short of words.
"I never miss." Tristan hissed, leaning into his chair and picking up a paper work.
"Now that, was quality bromance." Troy commented after clapping three times, taking in their expressions. "Shut your wolfy mouth, Theo. For an executor, you really are a scaredy cat."
"That wasn’t fair, Tristan." Theo whined after regaining his thoughts, going to seat on a single sofa.
"What wasn’t fair was you waltzing into my office at eight in the morning asking a bunch of useless questions." Tristan replied plainly from behind the document he was studying.
"You could have ignored me or said something. You could’ve said you weren’t in the mood." Theo tried to defend.
"And how many times do I need to ignore you and tell you for you to figure out that I am not a morning person. Especially when I was having a really good dream. Something I haven’t had in years, Theodore. So yeah, that wasn’t fair." Tristan said at once, no longer behind the document.
"I’m sorry." Theo said, sighing.
"It’s okay. It’s past anyway." Tristan said, going back to studying the document.
After a few seconds of silence, Troy cleared his throat.
"Now you guys are done with your bromance, can I relay my message?" He asked, looking at both of them, but they didn’t spare him a glance. Shrugging, he continued.
"Tristan." He called, facing him squarely. "Dad wants the monthly report and the theft investigation report on his desk this morning at ten thirty, and all of us in attendance."
"Why would he need the theft investigation report? The investigation just started. You know we just started working on the intel we were able to extract yesterday." Tristan stated monotonously.
"I don’t know, man. I just saw the text this morning. He just wants to know how it’s going, and probably wants to brief us on something." Troy said shrugging.
Sighing, Tristan put down the document, his mind racing.
"Cole would be returning today, right?" He asked.
"Yeah." Theo chipped. "His plane took off an hour ago."
"Did he give any updates we should know about before we go into the meeting?" Tristan asked again.
"No, he didn’t. But he should be here by ten. That should give us thirty minutes to go through whatever he’s bringing." Theo responded.
"I really hope he does." Tristan muttered.
"Do you think he’d be cool with us?" Troy asked. "Our last meeting wasn’t exactly..fruitful."
"He doesn’t have a choice. Business is business. We have to talk about it and we are not going to give up Bethany’s trust. He’s just gonna have to deal with it." Tristan replied, staring beyond the window.
