Chapter 16: Troy.

Troy’s Pov.

"Beth-" I started to call but Tristan put his palm over my mouth, muffling the rest of my sentence.

"What?" I whispered to him when he finally took away his palm.

"Give her some space. We fucked up." He said, running his hand through his hair, something he does when he has suppressed anger, annoyance or frustration for too long.

"Yeah, that’s true. We really did. Despite everything we did to help her loosen up." Theo said. He leaned back in his seat, his right leg bouncing, his posture tense but devastation sat in his eyes.

Sighing, I tried to stay calm, hoping she wasn’t going to overthink. Hell, who was I kidding? Overthinking was literally her full time job.

"Why didn’t we kick her out, though?" Theo asked, anger already lacing his voice. "We should have ended her. I told you guys. We can’t keep these dumb broads alive. We only fucked her, one time! And she had the guts to walk in here, sprouting nonsense." He snapped, his angry aura filling the room.

"What I really do not get is why neither of us could kick her out." He asked in exasperation, looking at I and Tristan.

I just bowed my head in shame while Tristan replied him.

"Because, Theo, we knew that if we did that, she was going to resist and when she did, we wouldn’t be able to let her live here alive. And besides, we were scared of freaking Beth out."

"Shit." Theo cursed, getting up from his seat and pacing about about. " We have to end her, y’all. I volunteer."

"That’s useless, Man, and you know it." I said to Theo.

"Then what the fuck do we do? You both know I’m not exactly patient." He snapped, his eyeballs were reddening already.

"You will keep your mouth shut and sit your ass down. She shouldn’t be your concern, Beth should! Stop misplacing priorities, Theo." Tristan warned.

"Shit." Theo cursed with gritted teeth, falling into the seat beside him. "I can’t go talk to her, and I don’t know what to do with all these pent up energy within me."

"Use it to think. Plan. Whatever would make you useful. She’s pissed as hell and overthinking outside. Just get mentally prepared to handle her break down." Tristan said, massaging his temple.

"I’m worried though." I muttered.

"Join the que, Man." Theo said, throwing me a glare, which I ignored despite how annoying it was. We had more pressing issues to deal with.

"Do you guys think she’d be able to handle us? In bed.."

The stillness that washed over the room immediately told me what I needed to know.

We didn’t know and couldn’t tell either. She hasn’t had any intimate partners before and despite how much that excited us; it didn’t help our case at all.

We were going in blind and we never do.

"We’d just have to take it really slow and softly with her. We cannot spring it on her, persuade or blindside her. She might not have done it before but we know she’s not naive." Tristan said quietly, asif testing the words in his tongue.

"That makes sense." I muttered, Theo nodding in response.

The room fell into silence again after that, everyone knee deep in their thoughts.

The whole mate thing was becoming realer and realer by the second.

We were finally given a mate, and she accepted our stupid asses.

I had lost all hope. Completely.

I cursed at Selene day and night when we turned twenty and still hadn’t found our mates. And eventually, I accepted our fate and lived like a regular man, trying to fuck away his sorrows.

When I was in the city, far from the pack, it worked perfectly well. The longing was there, but was easily outshone by other things.

Work, securing deals, hunting assholes, wreaking marriages, running the company. They worked so well I got used to ignoring the longing.

It wasn’t bliss, but it worked. So I lived with it.

And for the very first time while I was returning to the pack, I felt eager. It was weird but didn’t feel bad at all.

My wolf pranced about in my head, more than eager to abandon our vehicle by the roadside and race to the pack on his paws.

I should have seen it as a sign but I had long given up on anything concerning mating.

Well, that was until I got to the pack and could barely park my car properly before my wolf popped out, shoving me in and bolting off to somewhere I couldn’t recognize.

We sat in the bushes surrounding a tiny duplex longer than I can recall, basking in her distant but present scent before I noticed my brothers laying beside me, visibly relaxed but eyes and ears sharp and waiting, while basking in her scent as well.

Upon realizing the situation, I didn’t know how to feel or what to feel.

I slowly broke out of the haze, guiding my wolf who followed me reluctantly to our house.

It was a lot to take in, considering I had completely given up both hope and myself.

But somehow, I was able to make it out.

Maybe not completely but it didn’t mean I was going to give Bethany half of what she truly deserved.

It wasn’t her fault we had to wait.

"You should go speak with her, Troy." Tristan said lowly, looking older than ever.

"You sure? Why?" I asked.

"It’s best that way. You guys haven’t really had time to..bond." He said, his eyes trained on mine, exhaustion lying in them. "Just take it slow. Do not push too hard. We cannot loose her, Please."

"Alright." I said, pushing my seat backwards softly. "I’d be right back."

I walked steadily to the door, a total contrast to the war my emotions had put up in my head.

On getting to the hallway, I sniffed in hard in order to get the slightest trace of her scent.

Theo had mentioned through the link that she was so good a masking her scent and no matter how weird that might be to other members of the pack, it made us, her mates, bubble in joy.

For a while, I didn’t get anything, until a faint scent of lavender made its way into the hallway, finally putting away my misery.

I traced the scent to a small balcony, whose entrance was quite hidden. Peering through the glass doors, I took in her figure as she leaned on the railing seemingly lost in heavy thought.

Her shoulders slacked, and her head was bent forward halfway.

She really was sad.

Sighing, I slipped through the crack opening of the doors, taking light steps towards her, her posture straightening as she heard me come closer.

I went to stand beside her quietly, scanning the city below us like I could make out anything from where we stood, towering above Eldrador.
