Chapter 377: Chapter 377: The Mind to Fight Arises (2)_1

Gazing at a face that, despite being swollen beyond recognition, still seemed prettier than her own, Tang Erya jealously said, "I hope it’s ruined for good, so you don’t go seducing little boys around seven or eight with that foxy look anymore!"

Tang Daya and Tang Erya were Tang Yushi’s daughters with her former husband. After she remarried Tang Zhutou, they took the Tang surname and held a much higher status in the Tang Family than Tang Xin did. Many villagers who were out of the loop even thought these two were Tang Zhutou’s biological daughters.

In front of Tang Xin, the sisters were relentless, each adding fuel to the fire with their words, which grew increasingly nasty and completely unbecoming of twelve or thirteen-year-old girls. It went without saying that they had learned this from Tang Yushi’s unrestrained gossip.

Tang Xin bit her lower lip hard, fighting the urge to lash out at her two stepsisters, and left without saying a word. She didn’t want to spend another moment in this cold and heartless home.

Not expecting her to walk away so dismissively, Tang Erya felt as if her pride had been swept away. She said with hate, "Look at her, acting as if she doesn’t see us at all, like she thinks she’s some precious lady. Even the daughters of the Mo Family aren’t as arrogant as her!"

Tang Daya’s face also filled with indignation: "Humph, just let her be arrogant. Wait until Mother sells her to that kind of place, to be ridden by a thousand men and trampled by ten thousand more. Let’s see what she’ll have left to be proud of then."

At these words, Tang Erya seemed to already envision the tragic sight of Tang Xin being humiliated, and she let out a mocking laugh.

The sister’s cruel conversation reached Tang Xin, who hadn’t gone far. Tang Daya’s sarcastic and confident words felt like a bucket of ice water poured over her from head to toe, chilling her to the core!

So that vile woman was actually plotting to sell her into that filthy place!

No, she refused. She wouldn’t be sold off like an animal, to live a life of degradation without dignity! She would never allow that vile woman to enjoy her life with the silver gained from her sale, never!

In Tang Xin’s eyes, there was a sea of blood-red, and only one thought dominated her mind: she absolutely could not let Tang Yushi succeed!

She wandered aimlessly, overhearing discussions about the Mo Family’s adoption affair, and before she knew it, she found herself at the gates of the Mo Family.

As she looked at the tall gate walls built of green bricks and having never set foot in the Mo Family’s residence, Tang Xin couldn’t imagine what it was like inside. She could only guess—from the snippets she had heard from other villagers—that the people of the Mo Family slept on clean, warm beds, wore beautiful, cozy clothes, ate fragrant, soft rice, and rode in comfortable carriages to the city.

When Xin Er and Liyan returned from playing outside, they saw a girl standing motionless in front of their gate, gazing at it. Unable to help themselves, they approached and asked, "Miss, do you need something?"

The sudden voice broke Tang Xin’s train of thought, and she stared blankly at Xin Er, her gaze unconsciously falling upon her. When she saw the beautiful, softly gleaming leather jacket Xin Er was wearing outside, envy flashed in her eyes, and she clenched her fists, fighting the impulse to reach out and touch it.

Seeing that she remained silent, Xin Er was somewhat baffled. She had initially intended to leave with Liyan, but upon seeing Tang Xin’s thin and tattered clothes, a pang of compassion struck her. She quietly asked Liyan, "Could she be here to beg?"

Liyan took another look at Tang Xin and said uncertainly, "I haven’t seen her in the village before; I don’t know if she has come from somewhere else to beg!"

With beggars often coming to the village, especially since winter brought even more, Tang Xin’s attire made them suspect she might be one of them.

Convinced by this thought, Xin Er didn’t dwell on it and rushed inside the house. She grabbed a few meat buns left over from breakfast in the kitchen and, thinking about Tang Xin’s barely adequate clothing, she went back to her room and took out a cotton-padded jacket that was nearly new, having been worn the previous year. She went outside and stuffed both into Tang Xin’s arms.
