Chapter 157: Dig up his grave

Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Dig up his grave

"What? Y-you... Why didn’t you tell me?!" Old Master Shentu clutched his chest tightly and banged his cane against the ground.

The old servant by his side tried to calm him down. The butler rubbed his back, attempting to soothe him.

"I’m sorry, Old Master. I...I just heard of it. They held a memorial for him and..."

"And what?" Old Master Shentu took a deep breath, forcefully swallowing his saliva.

"There was chaos at the memorial. Master Dong fainted on the spot..."

Old Master Shentu’s face turned ghastly pale as he listened. The old man had looked tired and fatigued recently. His hair seemed to have grown even whiter, and more wrinkles lined his face.

"Because Shentu Chu broke the Second Young Master’s photo into pieces with his bare hands. There are rumors that he was the one who sabotaged the plane and killed him to usurp the position of CEO and head of the family."

"So who’s the current head of the Shentu family now? Who is it?" The old man clutched his cane so hard his knuckles turned white.

Everyone knew he was controlling himself from breaking down, so no one dared to be careless with their words.

"S-Shentu Chu."

"Why is it him?" The old man banged his wooden cane again.

"I heard he took over the position by himself and even fired many of the old employees who worked under the Second Young Master. He even tried to lock Little Master Mingye up," the butler said, looking grave and anxious.

"It seems I’ve kept a wolf in the Shentu family for years. Now that he’s grown his fangs, he’ll stop at nothing to achieve what he wants. Hmph!" The old man’s face darkened.

"Someone purposely blocked the news from reaching us, my master. That’s why we learned of it so late," the old servant spoke up, looking gloomy.

"If that’s so, why did we learn of it now?" Old Master Shentu wasn’t a fool. He knew someone had deliberately leaked the news to them at this time.

"This..." the old servant became confused.

"I’m not sure," the butler glanced at the old servant.

"Someone purposely leaked the news to me. I don’t know their purpose, but I won’t give them the reaction they want," Old Master Shentu stood up, taking deep breaths to steady his racing heart.

He could tell the other party wanted him to have a heart attack—possibly even send him to the hospital. Whatever it was, it was nothing good. Just who was it that wanted to harm their Shentu family?!

Old Master Shentu drank some tea. The two attendants remained silent, waiting for him to calm down. After a while, the old man stood and walked to his room.

"Pack up and prepare the plane tickets," he said sternly.

"Where are we going?" the old servant asked, confused.

"Back to the city. To see the new head of the family," the old man’s expression was resolute.

---

A few hours later.

The plane landed, and soon a car arrived to pick up the three men.

"Old Master Shentu! Why did you call me to pick you up? Where is your son?!" Jiang Wubai called out.

"Never mind them. I want you to tell me everything that happened. Is it true... that Ah Jing is...d—"

"It is. I’m sorry for your loss, Old Master Shentu," Jiang Wubai looked at the ground, unable to meet the grieving old man’s eyes. The pain was probably too much for him to bear.

The old master remained silent the entire way in the car. He didn’t even open his eyes when they reached the Shentu mansion.

"We’re here," Jiang Wubai said softly.

The butler, Lao Zhang, and the old servant helped the old man out of the car, murmuring their thanks.

Jiang Wubai drove the car around to the back and honked. Jiang Zhaoling walked out of the back entrance with a sling bag over her thin shoulders. Jiang Wubai approached her Ruth a concerned expression.

"You want to leave? Don’t you want to stay with Master Dong for a while?" Jiang Wubai asked his niece.

"Uncle Wubai, I want to find Brother Jing’s murderer. Don’t worry—Uncle Dong will be in good hands with Mingye taking care of him," Jiang Zhaoling lifted her eyelids.

"Murderer???" Jiang Wubai was startled.

"I think he was murdered. Brother Jing was an excellent pilot. He would have known if something was wrong. How could he... die just like that?" Jiang Zhaoling’s eyes reddened as she spoke.

"But the police already found the body!" Jiang Wubai tried to dissuade her. This might turn into an obsession and get her into trouble.

"They found a charred body. I won’t acknowledge that as Brother Jing unless I test the DNA," Jiang Zhaoling sat in the backseat.

"What?! You want to dig up his body?!" Jiang Wubai’s eyes widened in shock.

"How else would I know if it’s really him?" Jiang Zhaoling said flatly.

"Goodness gracious, Zhaoling! That’s a huge disrespect!"

"Uncle Wubai, if it’s not Brother Jing buried in the Shentu family cemetery, wouldn’t I be doing the right thing by uncovering a stranger in their ancestral burial grounds?" The girl looked tired and stressed.

Jiang Wubai didn’t argue, only nodding. If this was the closure she needed, he would let her be.

"It won’t be easy, Zhaoling. The old man must be suffering enough. When you see him next time, don’t mention anything about Ah Jing—especially not digging up his grave. I doubt anyone will support that," Jiang Wubai sighed as he drove.

"I will find evidence that Shentu Chu killed Shentu Jing! Don’t worry about me, Uncle. I can take care of myself," Jiang Zhaoling clenched her fists.

Jiang Wubai shook his head. He only hoped she wouldn’t get herself into trouble.

"Uncle, can you drop me off at the café over there? I’m meeting someone."

"There? Who are you meeting?" Jiang Wubai knew Zhaoling wasn’t sociable and hardly had friends. So who could she be meeting?
