Chapter 148: I’m very selfish
Chapter 148: Chapter 148: I’m very selfish
"Mr. Chairman, the CEO has ordered another batch of people to be laid off. This... What should we do?" The female secretary stood in front of Shentu Dong’s desk, holding out a file to him. Her fingers were trembling, knowing the chairman’s temperament.
Shentu Dong sighed and took the file, flipping through it to see who the unlucky ones were.
Not again, he massaged his temples. It seemed like Shentu Chu was really going to take over the company. He was putting his people in every important position.
He was getting old. If he got worked up by everything Shentu Chu did, a heart attack was sure to take his life.
Shentu Dong tossed the file aside. Chu’er, what exactly are you trying to do? What is it that you want? Ruin my hard work just to satisfy yourself? Haven’t I treated you fairly?
Back at the Shentu mansion, there were loud noises of things being carried out and transported to a large truck. People moved back and forth. The words Dumpster were written on the truck’s body.
Some servants were helping to move things out, including furniture.
"What are you doing, Chu’er?" Shentu Dong recognized that these were all Ah Jing’s belongings!
He had just returned from work to see this sight. Enraged, Shentu Dong stopped one of the servants from going any further.
"I’m throwing my second brother’s things away. Letting them stay here is a waste of space. Better to bury them with his body," Shentu Chu said smugly, motioning for the servants to continue.
"Chu’er, don’t be disrespectful to your own brother! Why are you throwing Ah Jing’s things out?! This isn’t even yours! The house is so big... We have enough space. What are you up to?" Shentu Dong trembled with rage.
Every time the father and son met, a quarrel soon erupted between them. It was as if they were sworn enemies who couldn’t stand the sight of each other.
Their relationship had become so strained that the servants and maids didn’t know what to do. The butler could no longer convince them to make up.
"I’m only trying to cleanse this house of bad luck. Second brother is dead. Times are changing. From now on, everything that belongs to him will be destroyed," Shentu Chu smiled at his father villainously.
"Why? Why would you do that?" Shentu Dong was shocked by his son’s drastic changes.
It was as if he didn’t know the person standing in front of him.
"Because I’m selfish. Very, very selfish," that was Shentu Chu’s answer. Shentu Dong’s face turned red.
From far away, the senior maid, You Lan, was eavesdropping on them. She smiled as she watched the father and son destroy their relationship. The plan was going very well. Madam Qiao would definitely be pleased.
"I’d rather pray to the heavens that the one who died in the plane crash was you," Disgusted with Shentu Chu, Shentu Dong could only scowl at him and stomp away.
After Shentu Dong left, Shentu Chu smiled at the empty spot where his father once stood. He gave orders for the servants to continue. Then he went up to his room, where he buried his face in his palms.

Not long after, the Shentu family received messages to attend the funeral of Shentu Jing. The police claimed that they had found the body and confirmed it. A memorial was held for him.
It became a huge event because Shentu Jing was the richest and most famous tycoon in the country.
Many of the business partners Shentu Jing worked with also attended to offer their condolences.
Outside the memorial hall, Ning Ning met with Shentu Chu. She was dressed in a simple black dress with a black hat on her head.
"What are you doing here? Going in will only make things worse," Shentu Chu stuffed his hands into his pockets as he approached her.
"I know. I’ll watch from afar," Ning Ning replied.
Tears fell from her eyes as she spoke. Ning Ning wiped her tears with her sleeves while chuckling.
"As his stepmother, you cared more about him than Mingye," Shentu Chu remarked.
"What can I say? I’ve long seen myself as part of this family. As long as Mingye is fine, I can be relieved. There are still two months left for your wedding with Qiao Nian," Ning Ning said.
Shentu Chu looked up at the sky before looking back at his stepmother.
"I don’t want to marry," he said those simple words, sounding like a stubborn child.
"But you have to. It’s Grandpa’s decision," Ning Ning said.
"I don’t accept this decision. Why do I have to be the scapegoat for his son’s mistakes?" Shentu Chu looked bitter as he spoke. Ning Ning didn’t know how to reply.
She only sighed and patted his shoulder.
"Chu’er, you’ve grown up. Don’t worry. Since you don’t want to marry, then don’t. I’ll help you out of this. But first, I want to ask you something," Ning Ning’s soft and gentle voice was like a freezing breeze on a lonely, dark night.
"Say it," Shentu Chu replied.
"Why did you try to lock up Mingye?" Ning Ning asked, suspicion reflecting in her eyes.
"I didn’t want him to get in the way," Shentu Chu said, sounding innocent.
"Mingye... Does he... know? Who you are?" Ning Ning suddenly asked.
Shentu Chu looked down at his shoes before meeting her eyes again. The sun was setting. He looked up at his stepmother. At this point, the sunlight cast a strange yet beautiful glow across his face.
"He knows. I know who my mother is," there was a hint of sadness in Shentu Chu’s eyes. Very quickly, as it appeared, the sadness disappeared.
Qin Zhuzhu wore a simple black dress as she attended the memorial. She stared at a portrait of Shentu Jing placed among white flowers.
From far away, the masked man watched her while the priest gave a speech. A few women wept bitterly.
