Chapter 142: Chapter 142: You’re bleeding!
Qin Zhuzhu looked over her shoulder and squeezed her eyes shut. It was too fast!
Wham!
The masked man grabbed her by the waist and pulled her behind him. The baton whacked the side of his head, cracking the mask slightly.
"Ahhh!" Qin Zhuzhu screamed. The masked man quickly recovered and kicked the attacker in the gut, sending him flying into a wall.
Qin Zhuzhu looked at the ground; it was littered with unconscious bodies.
"Ahhh!" She screamed again, making the masked man stare at her.
"There’s blood!" She pointed to the side of his head. She rushed over, tore a piece of her shirt, and used it to dab at his wound.
Then she squinted her eyes and stared at the man. Did he just call her "Little Pearl"?
"Uh, excuse me, did you just call—"
"Let’s go," the man interrupted her and started walking in the opposite direction. He casted his gaze downwards, avoiding hers.
"We need to find some medicine first for your wound!" she ran after him.
He suddenly stopped and turned around. Qin Zhuzhu wasn’t prepared for it and ended up bumping into his chest.
"Sorry! Sorry!" She apologized with a slight bow.
He glared at her blankly without saying a word.
"Uh... Thank you for saving me, hero. Can you come with me? I need to treat your wound," Qin Zhuzhu said, feeling his burning gaze on her face.
The moment he nodded, she pulled him by the arm to a pharmacy on the lower floor, as if she had been waiting for him to agree. Did he fall into her trap?
"You need to take off your mask, hero," Qin Zhuzhu sputtered when his gaze darkened, making her nervous.
"My face is very ugly. Burnt in a fire," he answered simply.
"Uh, I don’t mind!" Qin Zhuzhu looked at him.
"I do," he said.
So he was sensitive about his looks and how others saw him? Qin Zhuzhu decided not to force him. He might feel very uncomfortable in front of a stranger like her.
"Okay," she said and sat down opposite him.
While she was busy cleaning his wound, a myriad of emotions flickered across his eyes. He watched as she carefully cleaned his wound and applied ointment.
"There! All done!" She took a step back to admire her work. Even though there were some parts she couldn’t clean because of the mask, most of it had been cleaned and treated with ointment. Then she put plasters over the wound.
The masked man slowly touched the plaster and looked in a mirror.
Qin Zhuzhu chuckled. She had used Hello Kitty plasters on him. The big "hero" now looked very girlish.
"Thanks," his tone was cold. He got up and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Qin Zhuzhu called out, staring at the masked man’s back.
The man stilled on the spot, listening to her words.
"Thank you for helping me in the third round," Qin Zhuzhu said, tilting her head to the side to catch a glimpse of his face.
"Don’t thank me," the masked man replied coldly.
"Of course, I need to thank you. You helped me twice. How about I buy you a meal to express my gratitude?" she suggested, walking up to him.
"No need," he walked off, but she caught up to him.
"Why are you following me?" He turned to her, towering frighteningly over her.
"I... uh... have no money to go home. Can you give me a ride?" Qin Zhuzhu smiled at him. It was true. She had tossed her purse away.
"You have WeChat and Alipay," his voice was cold like glaciers. He emitted an icy and dangerous aura.
Qin Zhuzhu seemed to notice that he was hostile toward her, but she was more intrigued by his identity.
"I ran out of data," she raised her chin to meet his eyes, a mischievous glint in her foxy eyes. It looked like she was seducing him, but innocently.
The masked man hid his right hand behind his back, clenching his fist. Her words about bringing home ten thousand men echoed in his head. She had no self-control!
"Walk home," he told her sternly and turned away from her. He wanted to get away from her as far as possible. With her nature, she was clearly suspicious of him.
"No!" She grabbed his arm and hugged it tightly.
The man’s eyes bulged out. Qin Zhuzhu quickly released his arm and smoothed his crumpled suit.
"What I meant to say was that I’m scared to walk home alone. What if something like earlier happens again?" She made a pleading gesture with her hands and pouted.
This look was simply too cute for him to resist. Was she doing this on purpose or what?
"Please...." Qin Zhuzhu continued to plead with a cute face.
"Fine," he sighed, resigning to his fate. "Follow close. Don’t get lost," he strode off.
"Okay! Wait for me!" Qin Zhuzhu had to jog to catch up with his long strides.
The sun cast shadows of the two people, one tall, one short, walking side by side. The sound of waves caught her attention. Qin Zhuzhu looked toward the sea.
Under the evening glow, the water sparkled with life. In the far distance, ships blew their horns and docked at the port.
The masked man looked at the girl’s excited expression. His eyes glimmered underneath the orange glow. Stuffing his hands into his pockets, the masked man shut his eyes, listening to the calling of birds.
After spending about thirty minutes, the masked man walked Qin Zhuzhu back to Peixuan Ruxi’s villa.
"Do you want to come in and take a rest?" Qin Zhuzhu suggested with a bright smile.
"No," the man’s voice was as cold as ever.
"Okay, how about—"
"It’s late. If fate permits, we’ll meet again," with that, the masked man left.
As she stared at his retreating figure, her eyes darted to his right wrist, where a watch was strapped on.
That watch....
