"Troy? I’ve heard of him, the Investigation Bureau suspects that ’Black Sand’ and Mikaela were killed by him, and our legal department has been keeping an eye on this case, too, but to start off with the Exceptional Cases Investigation Bureau, won’t that be too exciting?"

"My friend happens to know someone high up in the Fourth District Investigation Bureau, and she’s already gone to try and communicate."

"I have no objections to that."

Guan Lili stuffed the last small piece of sandwich into her mouth, wiping away the crumbs from the corner of her lips.

She didn’t have a platinum membership with the Investigation Bureau, and although her heart was full of sympathy for the agent known as Catherine, as long as no explosions occurred at the Eden Hotel and the prosthetic hospital, she had no complaints.

She had figured this out a long time ago.

The office was still dimly lit, a practice Catherine had developed back when she was at Morning Star, which, according to her, was an atmosphere conducive to thinking about cases.

"Here, take a seat, I didn’t expect to be called back to the Fourth District so soon either."

However, as Catherine started investigating along these documents, a chill suddenly went down her spine.

Especially regarding the operation that directly led to the "predecessor’s" death, she felt that if she were in their shoes, she would likely take the same approach.

When Vadim underwent his cybernetic surgery, it was indeed his weakest moment, and brain enhancements were among the most delicate operations. The transplant of the operating system meant he needed to be injected with enough anesthetics to ensure he remained unconscious for a considerable length of time.

To wake up sooner than expected could only be described as an accident.

Meaning that, if she had been handed the case at that time, she might have met the same fate as her "predecessor."

Catherine had been in the Fourth District for many years and had heard of Vadim, the rising "local boss," but at least during her tenure, Vadim had always been a "law-abiding" individual, clearly knowing whom not to provoke.

"He’s a member of the organization and might know Monica’s hiding place."

Catherine mused, "And we previously caught his subordinates, which probably added new hatred to old grudges... It seems like you have indeed grown a lot after graduation."

"Teacher, I’m not here to talk about that. As far as I know, Kolo Film Industry’s ’Master of Rescuers’ program has also been investigating this case lately."

On her first day back in the Fourth Zone, Catherine had uploaded the death report of the previous head and her personal assessment of Vadim to headquarters.

But, unsurprisingly, headquarters once again adopted a defensive strategy. So much time had passed, yet not a single response had come through.

Catherine didn’t know what was happening at the top, how her superiors were negotiating with the Review Meeting, but everything in the Fourth Zone depended on them now.

"That’s not a bad idea, but are you sure the production team is willing to cooperate with us? We had some unpleasantness before because of the Mikaela and ’Black Sand’ case," she said.

That was before the founder of Kolo Film Industry was killed. The company’s legal department hoped the investigation bureau would hand over the suspect to them, a request she naturally denied. Catherine still remembered how forcefully Kolo Film Industry’s legal team had threatened to involve the prosecuting authority in the case.

But once Singosi died, they got busy with their internal power struggles and never again came asking about Troy.

In fact, Catherine had almost forgotten that they still had such a person in their interrogation room. He had been in a coma since being brought back on the first day and had not woken up since.

"I have a friend who is quite close with the production team. They should be willing to work with the investigation bureau, but under the condition that they might need to film at the bureau," said Agent.

"Teacher Catherine, what is it?"

"After this is over, would you consider working at the investigation bureau? I’ve already managed to persuade the people upstairs," Catherine offered.

"No, thank you."

This time, Lu Xiang rejected the offer without any hesitation, "I really like my current work environment in District Seventeen, and I have no plans to change jobs for now."

The outcome of the attack was predestined from the beginning, which was also the reason he had each of his men undergo cybernetic enhancement.

The Fourth Zone’s investigation bureau couldn’t possibly withstand the might of this army of cybernetically enhanced fighters.

It was only to save face for the company that he had refrained from provoking the investigation bureau before, but it didn’t mean he feared them.

"Remember, this is a covert operation, the most important thing is the element of surprise," Vadim instructed.

"Use blitzkrieg tactics to end the battle, and seal off the entire B Area before they can send out any messages," he said.
