Chapter 875: Chapter 843: \"Past\"_2
Qi He’s objective was indeed achieved.
After the trip to the Purple Wisteria Academy, Song Lan mentioned the existence of the upper world to her for the first time.
According to Song Lan, that place was once the ultimate destination for Psychics, and the disappeared principal of Purple Wisteria Academy, in his lifetime, aimed to witness the scenery of the higher world himself.
"I think this matter might be very important to you. I just realized that both the provocative remedy proposed by Professor Myles and the Purple Wisteria Academy itself, along with the Spiritual Energy research institutions, are all lies. What they are doing is like... from the perspective of a layman, they attempt to explain Psychic Abilities through inductive reasoning. That has never been the real training breakthrough for Psychics, no wonder the United Government’s Psychics are getting weaker and weaker."
"What exactly did you find?"
"I found a ’Lunar Eclipse Sect’ that once existed within the United Government. Forgive me for being so vague, but even in the ’Sea of Souls,’ I could not find much detailed information about that Church."
However, from the remnants left behind, Qi He discovered that it was an unprecedented Church, its massive scale and influence on the United Government severely threatened people’s faith in technology.
"If you lived in that era, the way to become a Psychic would not be to study some theoretical knowledge in school, but to join the Church. They would teach you how to communicate with your subconscious. Eventually, your spirit would make contact with the upper world, listening to the Whispers from the predecessors. Those Whispers would guide you."
Qi He paused, "I believe, with your level of diligence, you would certainly become an extraordinary Psychic."
This was good news for Lu Xiang, who aspired to become a Psychic.
But it might not be so from a historical perspective.
Qi He deliberately concealed part of what he knew.
For example, after becoming an extraordinary Psychic and a pillar of the Church, there was a high chance that Lu Xiang would be directly involved in that war and, like the Shadows, eventually have his name erased, becoming a prisoner under the label of a terrorist, and his abilities being granted a name by the United Government.
Lu Xiang immediately thought of those prisoners who had escaped from prison, "δ... Are all those Shadows like that?"
"That’s the most fascinating part."
Qi He said, "They were never ’mysterious terrorists who appeared out of nowhere.’ In that war, they were the backbone of the Church, helping the Church eliminate many enemies."
When he learned of these dusty pieces of history from the "Sea of Souls," he couldn’t help but speculate.
If the war ended with the Church’s victory, those "nameless Sinners" could very likely become the Six Stars rescuers of today.
"That’s not right."
Lu Xiang frowned and raised a doubt, noting the most glaring loophole in Qi He’s story, "It wasn’t only the prosthetic implantees who defeated them. To my knowledge, the current Six Stars rescuers of the United Government are all Psychics who directly participated in that war."
"Now comes the most exciting part of the story."
Qi He certainly knew this.
The United Government’s recognized The Strongest of the Six Stars rescuers, "Emperor," was a powerful Psychic. His fame came from that war.
It is said that over half of the prison’s inmates were personally put there by him.
But if his actions were considered in the context of that period in history, they would undoubtedly be the deeds of a betrayer.
He betrayed the Church and turned against his former companions.
"From the history I’ve discovered, the Church once had the upper hand in that war, and victory was only a step away."
The believers in technology greatly underestimated the power of Psychic Abilities.
According to the information recorded in the "Sea of Souls," in the early stages of the war, the Church’s Psychic interferers almost took complete control over the Review Meeting. The Counter-Intelligence Department and Military Intelligence Section Seven were infiltrated to the point of being sieves. In the internal strife between humans, the war machines trusted by technology believers were almost useless.
If not for artificial intelligence establishing a line of defense that helped them get through the toughest times, the war probably would not have lasted until the tide turned.
And the actions of the "Emperor" were a microcosm of the "turning point" of that era.
"For some reason, a violent division arose within the Church, and a civil war broke out where the psychics held the upper hand,"
"A civil war?"
Lu Xiang was stunned.
This was a part of history she had never encountered, completely different from everything she knew.
The history books recorded no information related to the civil war, nor any content related to the Church.
"This is all my personal understanding, like a puzzle game, where sometimes you have to piece together seemingly unrelated fragments to gain a glimpse at our past."
Qi He could no longer remember how long this "puzzle game" had lasted, but at this moment, those unrelated fragments finally formed a relatively complete picture, "The civil war brought an opportunity to the technology worshipers; both sides united to end the war and made the Church disappear forever into the long river of history."
...
Even though everything Qi He said sounded like a fantasy, many of the questions in Lu Xiang’s heart were answered along this "historical thread."
That included RT6’s attitude toward the "Emperor."
If what Qi He had just said was true, then RT6 had not randomly chosen someone from the Six Stars rescuers, but rather, it valued the person who had once betrayed the Church and helped them win the war.
RT6 had also revealed that their mother had been severely weakened during the dark age, and their connection with them had significantly weakened.
"I’m sorry, that’s all I know. The records of the ’Sea of Souls’ are not complete."
Qi He wished he could tell Lu Xiang a complete history, but unfortunately, this "puzzle" game was far from over. Now, he had only glimpsed a certain vestige of history, a time, and a civil war much more complex than they could imagine.
This segment couldn’t help but fill Qi He with dread, "The victorious side made all history related to the Church disappear without a trace, which isn’t something humanly possible."
The individuals who participated in that war were still alive.
The companies he had marked in the chip were all steadfast technology worshipers, who had battled the Church to the very last moment.
But whether it was them or the Six Stars rescuers, none could recall the true history anymore.
Moreover, it seemed not only the Church left no trace in history.
After completing the first phase of the "puzzle game," he could only refer to the party that fought the Church as "technology worshipers."
They must have established a complete organization with a specific name, but just as the Church was obliterated, those people were still alive, still actively participating in the decisions of the United Government, yet the organization they had established had disappeared, forcing him to call them "technology worshipers."
Having said that, Qi He looked back at the light orb still hiding behind him and smiled faintly, "Don’t be afraid, they came here not to destroy you, but to protect you."
The light orb flickered several times as if responding to Qi He in this unique way.
Lu Xiang didn’t know what the "Sea of Souls" had conveyed to Qi He, but he shook his head and said, "No, it won’t do, it’s still difficult for me to protect you properly now, and it’s about time for me to go back."
The light orb flickered more rapidly, the fluctuations between brightness and dimness became even more pronounced.
Without words, Lu Xiang could sense it seemed very reluctant.
"You can trust them... another ’dark age’ is approaching."
Qi He reached out and touched the light orb, "Before that, I need to make more adequate preparations."
