Chapter 874: Chapter 843: ’Past
Lu Xiang looked at Qi He with renewed respect.
Before RT6 proposed utilizing the "Sea of Souls," Qi He had already put this theory into practice earlier, braving the risk of never being able to return to the real world and being completely replaced by his clone to come here.
He also found the location of the "Sea of Souls" program earlier than they had.
This was enough to indicate that Qi He was a mad gambler, the only thing Lu Xiang couldn’t understand was the purpose behind the other’s actions.
And just now, Qi He had explained the reason.
In the "Sea of Souls," there were answers to many questions.
Among these was the program’s record of the Dark Age—fair and impartially chronicling that war which swept across the world years ago from an artificial intelligence’s perspective.
"It seems you’ve already found the answers,"
Lu Xiang said.
Despite Qi He looking indecent with his chest bared at this moment, it wasn’t difficult to see from the way he ducked behind the light circle that they had already had quite a thorough exchange, and even established some subtle connection.
Qi He didn’t confirm nor deny it, "You should have seen the chip I left you."
"Those marked companies?"
At first, Lu Xiang thought that like Xingo Xi, the leaders of the high-lighted companies in the chips had been controlled by the "Sea of Souls," their consciousness backed up with the intention of having Clones ready to fill their vacancies in case of an accident.
However, as the investigation deepened, RT6 claimed that the existence of the "Sea of Souls" was a discontinued project, with its activities limited only to District Four, while those highlighted cities were located in various cities of the United Government.
She had to overturn some of her previous speculations.
"They all directly participated in that war, closely related to that era, in a sense, it was they who defined the Dark Age."
Humans determined the name of each era.
And "dark" and "light" are always relative concepts, although no one has called any period after the establishment of the United Government the "Era of Light," there is no doubt the United Government was in a booming Golden Age just before the Dark Age, so much so that despite the turmoil of the Dark Age warfare, and the struggles between the Conservative and Innovator Factions nearly brought the United Government’s development to a standstill, they still maintained a dominant position in the world.
This was enough to prove just how brilliant the civilization of the United Government was before the war arrived.
"Personally, what I’m most curious about is, who exactly can completely erase a section of history from this world."
This was also the question Qi He had always been questioning.
Current history deems those Shadows locked away in "prison" as the chief culprits of the Dark Age, and historians of the United Government generally believe that the Dark Age was brought about by terrorists who emerged from nowhere, and to confront them, the United Government paid a terribly heavy price.
Many a Six Star rescuer with outstanding contributions were forever buried in that era.
Qi He, however, had always scoffed at this claim; he didn’t believe that mere terrorists could bring calamity to the United Government and was convinced that there must be some key information being concealed.
Today’s facts proved his guess; the information he found from the "Sea of Souls" recorded the true face of that war.
After the United Government’s development reached its zenith, the contradiction between technology and faith finally became irreconcilable, leading to the most severe and largest-scale "Commerce-Education War" since the existence of the United Government.
The term "Commerce-Education War" was something Qi He learned from the history of the Lunar Perspective and the Third Neutral Country.
The two events were extremely similar yet led to entirely opposite outcomes.
In the history of the Third Neutral Country, the corporatism represented by the Barrosa Group failed, and hence, the Lunar Eclipse Church became the dominant force in the Third Neutral Country, giving birth to the only theocratic state today.
The outcome of the Dark Age war, however, led to a church being completely erased from the history of the United Government.
"I’ve investigated your experience at Morning Star Academy; when you first enrolled, you had hoped to become a Psychic, and your research on Psychic Abilities was much deeper than the average person."
Lu Xiang did not speak; she responded with a puzzled look, not understanding why the conversation about the Dark Age involved her.
"Your mentor was Miles, once one of the renowned scholars at the Psychic research institution."
Qi He continued, "He proposed many theories about Psychic research and as a researcher, suggested ’stimulating remedies,’ you must not be unfamiliar with this."
"Purple Wisteria Academy is still adopting this method."
"Right, Purple Wisteria Academy."
Qi He nodded, "That’s why I hope you, especially Mr. Song Lan, could make a trip there, perhaps something that happens there might trigger his memory."
Lu Xiang’s speculation was confirmed.
The visit to Purple Wisteria Academy was something Qi He deliberately arranged; he probably knew from the start that something would happen once Song Lan got there.
Although it had been comprehensively banned by the United Government at one point, "stimulating remedies" had never disappeared; they just continued to exist under a different name.
