Chapter 861: Chapter 637: A Boss’s Life Starting from Zero
As for Song Lan, Lu Xiang had made new discoveries.
If a person possesses both the traits of destroying and repairing a home, then his destructive power is neutralized, although the sight of simultaneously tearing down and fixing always seems a bit odd.
He had welcomed guests from afar and had prepared a lavish fish soup banquet, life seemed to be returning to calm.
But that was not the case for Guan Lili.
She had finished an emergency meeting called by the founder of Kolo Film Industry just a few hours ago, and now the company’s senior management was busy restoring the usual work order, with some projects that had been halted due to recent company turmoil gradually resuming.
Although she didn’t know what had happened to the founder, this situation was welcomed by everyone.
No longer needing to worry about trivial matters like assassins, life had returned to the familiar routine of work, as the founder had confidently declared during the meeting, believing the threat of assassins was no longer an issue.
Regrettably, reality often fell short of expectations.
When Guan Lili was finishing up her work in the luxurious compartment of the hotel and turned to look out the window, she saw a scene traumatic enough to leave a deep psychological shadow—she saw the founder of Kolo Film Industry, headfirst.
His falling speed was so fast that in a blink, he had disappeared from her sight.
Guan Lili stood frozen in her room for nearly a minute before she ran downstairs to the Eden Hotel, still unable to calm her mind—was this what the founder had meant by having dealt with the assassin?
When she reached the ground floor, the vicinity of the body was already crowded with onlookers, and she was greeted by a flurry of camera flashes.
The photographed body was already unrecognizable, its flesh and blood scattered everywhere, which even made Guan Lili, an old hand at film sets, feel nauseous.
The Special Case Investigation Bureau arrived quickly, dispersing the onlookers and cordoning off the scene while Guan Lili was kept there by the new investigation team leader, who inquired in detail about the details of the fall, but Guan Lili was just as confused.
The bureau’s people said that someone had witnessed the founder falling from the rooftop; she couldn’t understand why the elderly man would go there alone since, as far as she knew, the Eden Hotel’s rooftop was designed for private parties, with a barbecue area and a pool, and was locked during non-party times, accessible only by hotel staff who could unlock it.
The investigation bureau promptly checked the Eden Hotel’s rooftop.
There were no signs of forced entry on the safety door, and no signs of struggle on the rooftop, but they noticed an advertising projector suspended overhead. They took the projector back to the bureau to investigate whether this equipment had recording capabilities and had coincidentally captured the moment the founder fell.
The bureau did not release any information about the body, and apart from Guan Lili, who had locked eyes with the falling founder, it seemed no one knew whom that torn-apart body really was.
Back in her room, Guan Lili sat on the soft mattress, pressing her temples to steady her nerves.
Everything had happened too suddenly, Kolo Film Industry hadn’t even had the chance to formally announce to the media that the founder was still alive before he fell to his death again.
The founder had never dealt with the assassin; they had not given up.
Thinking this, Guan Lili made a significant decision—hugging the blanket, she knocked on Song Lan’s room door.
Upon getting a response, she immediately made her intentions clear, "I don’t feel safe in the hotel, I was hoping I could move in...I’m sorry for bothering you."
No sooner had she entered the room than she regretted it.
Seeing Qi He lying on the sofa, his life hanging in the balance, she instinctively stepped back two paces, suspecting she had stumbled into a murder scene with the brutal murderer yet to dispose of the body.
Song Lan just then poked his head out from the kitchen, holding a blood-stained knife in his hand.
According to the clichés of movie scripts, she was very likely next in line to be silenced for "knowing too much."
"Don’t be nervous, I’m just dealing with frozen fish."
That was Song Lan’s work plan for the afternoon.
These frozen fish had traveled all the way from Atlantis, overcoming hardships to reach here; he certainly couldn’t let these precious ingredients go to waste, so for the next few days, their diet would focus on fish, having just sent a message to Zhuang Chi and Roger to join them for a departmental dinner that evening.
"What about Qi He? Was he ’dealt with’ too?"
"That’s a long story... come in and I’ll explain," Song Lan invited.
Guan Lili hesitated for a long time, but when she thought that even if she turned and ran now, she would be quickly caught and killed with a punch through the heart, she suddenly wasn’t so afraid anymore. Following her original plan, she threw the blanket on the sofa opposite Qi He and mutedly said, "Just let me know in advance when you’re going to silence me."
"What kind of person do you think I am?"
"A serial killer."
Guan Lili didn’t hesitate for a second in answering that question.
In the limited time she knew Song Lan, he had always been engaged in the work of a serial killer; she couldn’t remember how many people had died by his hand in such a short span of time.
But this too was not without its strategy.
When you’re in the same room as the real murderer, you no longer have to worry about the murderer coming after you.
