Chapter 842: Chapter 828: Error Code

"What are you standing there for, hurry up and run with your men."

The urging voice pulled the head of security back to reality, and he almost reflexively covered his chest with both hands.

When the red laser beam crossed his chest, he was sure he was a goner.

In Kolo Film Industry movies, there were occasional scenes of bodies being sliced by lasers, and those subdermal bulletproof coatings were utterly useless against laser weapons.

But now, his chest was intact, with no sign of damage on his bulletproof vest, as if everything just now had been a hallucination.

However, the head of security quickly dismissed this thought.

When he turned his face, out of the corner of his eye he noticed that the top half of the chair had been split in two, and the bulletproof security door of the command room had also been cut down by the laser, and through the damaged upper half, he could see the hallway.

The emergency warning lights illuminated the corridor, and more surveillance cameras were emerging from the walls and circuits.

He had heard complaints from other department managers more than once; they always felt like the company was "alive," and they, the living people, seemed more like marionettes. He wondered what they would think if they knew their office building truly came to life.

The surveillance cameras in the hallway were peering at them now, the crimson beams making the head of security’s skin crawl.

The events unfolding in the company were now beyond his comprehension, scenes he hadn’t even seen in movies.

And Mr. Lucky, as always, had given him a clear way out—escape.

The head of security didn’t stick around. Ignoring another laser charging up behind him, he bolted for the door.

The searing beam once again touched his spine, penetrating his body, and left an "S" shaped cut on the floor.

But this time, he saw it clearly.

There seemed to be a moment when his body turned into Nothingness, allowing the laser that should have cut through him to sweep as if through air.

This had to be Mr. Lucky’s doing.

The head of security didn’t look back, continuing to run forward.

Meanwhile, Lu Xiang and others who sensed the abnormality were rushing toward the Kolo Film Industry building, where onlookers gathered below, holding up their phones to capture the scene coming from the direction of the rooftop.

Another red beam cut across the night sky.

But this time, the company did not return to calmness as it had before; at the same time the laser faded, people heard a loud bang, intermixed with a grating noise.

Some sharp-eyed individuals gasped, turning to flee but only colliding with those behind them.

The crowd was thick around the building, leaving no room for escape.

About two or three seconds later, more people noticed something wrong with the rooftop and felt the trembling underneath—the building was losing a portion of its structure, plummeting in their direction.

Its size was much larger than people had imagined, darkness obscuring the light, appearing as falling Meteorites in their view.

Screams resounded throughout the area.

But the "Meteorite" was falling too fast for them to react.

"Boom—!"

The deafening impact drowned everything out.

Still sprinting, the head of security stumbled, nearly twisting his ankle. In a daze, it felt like he was back on the battlefield "outside," with bullets and the sound of laser cutting non-stop in his ears, their familiar company turning into a battlefield ablaze with gunfire. But this time, their enemy was not the "outside" Warlords or the Rebel Army, but a mound of machinery.

He knew the source of the loud noise earlier and as he ran downstairs, he saw a portion of the building plummeting down.

The collapse didn’t stop there; the echoes from the ground floor had not faded before another "Meteorite" passed through the corner of his eye, forcing him to pick up speed. He could feel the entire building collapsing, with access to the upper floors completely sealed off.

As for him...

If it weren’t for that inexplicable Phasing out state, he would have died countless times over.

The head of security felt like one of those cheaters in video games, seemingly impervious to any physical form of attack.

Bullets, lasers, and broken building materials all passed through his body.

Of course, he also considered another explanation.

The real him might have died the moment the laser crossed his body, and what was running through the collapsing building now was just his lingering consciousness.

But regardless, he was determined to evacuate as many of his men as possible from the doomed building.

Under his command, the security officers carried the injured and executed an orderly retreat.

But the collapse of the building was happening too rapidly, catching up to him so that he didn’t know if what he was stepping on was still the staircase.

The Phasing out process was becoming more pronounced, and he was getting more adept at navigating it, now able even to briefly move through walls that had been sealed shut.

The ground floor was getting closer.

The head of security braced himself fully, knowing that getting a grip on "Phasing out" meant he was getting closer to death, but he at least had to escape the building.

Finally, he saw a light ahead.

That light guided him through the blocked ruins created by the collapse, finding a path out.
