Chapter 805: Chapter 803: The Sole Survivor

The murmurs from the crowd brought Zhuang Chi back to reality. She stood up and leaned out of the window.

Downstairs, the flowerbed area was crowded with onlookers, each of them pulling out their phones to capture this shocking and unthinkable scene.

Zhuang Chi was also stunned.

There was no splattered blood, nor were there any dismembered limbs.

The scene at the entrance of the hotel also proved that she had not had a hallucination. For some reason, whether willingly or coerced, the woman had fallen from the building.

But she didn’t smash onto the fence and shatter into pieces as she herself had planned; instead, she was still positioned head-down, her entire body suspended in mid-air.

Before long, someone approached her and groped around the woman’s ankles.

From their astonished expressions, Zhuang Chi understood the message they conveyed.

There were no ropes, no protective support devices; the fallen woman was suspended in mid-air by some unknown means to them.

Then, Zhuang Chi noticed another detail that filled her with deep, fearful thoughts.

When had she come to the window?

Looking back, the bed was right in the middle of the room, at least two or three steps away from the window, yet the moment she stood up from the bed, she was already able to reach out and open the window.

Zhuang Chi could only comfort herself, perhaps her attention had been diverted by seeing someone fall from the building, which made her forget the details of getting out of bed.

And next door, Song Lan was sitting on the bed just like Zhuang Chi had been, gazing up at the city’s night sky.

He did not rush to the window like the other hotel guests who had witnessed the scene but was instead bathed in the colorful reflections of the holographic advertisement in the night sky reflected in his pupils.

His expression looked serious; if Zhuang Chi and Roger had looked, they surely would have joked that Song Lan had once again entered the "Assassin" mode.

A few months ago, the "concerned citizen" played by Song Lan had captivated the hearts of the public, and to this day, it remains a favorite topic among the Law Enforcers of District Seventeen.

Song Lan had also witnessed the entire process of the woman falling from the building.

Only a few hours apart, two murders were about to unfold before him, even for someone accustomed to the "Jinx Star system," this was a bit too much, severely violating his inner principle of "not witnessing two murders a day."

This also made him feel disrespected.

Soon after, another commotion emerged from downstairs.

The woman who had fallen finally stopped her eerie suspension in mid-air and landed on the ground.

She ultimately crashed into the bushes of the greenery, merely getting her clothes dirty.

Someone helped her up from the ground and asked concernedly if she was alright, however, the woman seemed like she had been scared stiff, her gaze vacant, unable to utter a complete sentence.

People admired her acting, believing it to be special effects from a movie.

After all, in real life, no one could float in the air against the laws of physics like she did; they speculated it could be some kind of new special effect, as magical as a magic trick.

The roaring of the hover vehicles affirmed the people’s speculation.

A man with a pompadour, dressed like a rock star, made his way through the crowd towards the still-recovering woman.

"Look, it’s Sean Grant!"

For a moment, the flash of cameras lit up the night sky.

Sean Grant did not respond to the frenzied crowd; he walked up to the woman, took her by the hand, and led her onto the hover vehicle.

This footage was quickly uploaded online, and in less than a few minutes, its shares went through the roof, partly due to Sean Grant’s star effect, leading people to speculate whether this was a publicity stunt for his new movie.

Her fifteen minutes of fame.

Listening to the roar of the hover vehicle and watching the crowd through the window shrink, this was the scene she had long dreamed of, even in those dreams, she’d never imagined she would have a close encounter with Sean Grant.

She knew what impact this video would have once it was posted online.

Yet, her heart was not filled with the anticipated joy, but was overwhelmed with confusions.

Why was she still alive?

Why did her body suddenly hover in mid-air just as it was about to smash into the ground?

Unlike the clueless crowd around her, she knew she hadn’t used any hovering devices. This wasn’t a film set—she had genuinely fallen from the rooftop, and should have been shattered to pieces.

Or could it be...

that she was already dead, and everything happening now was just a fantasy existing on the edge of her consciousness?

In the real world, people had brought a body bag and were filling it with her limbs.

From the corner of her eye, the woman saw Sean Grant in the front row answer a call, which quickly escalated into an argument.

It was his agent on the line.

The agent had evidently seen the news and was furious about the rumors circulating online about "Sean Grant’s" scandalous girlfriend.

She had heard that the personal relations of national-level rescuers were under strict control. Whom they interacted with, who their competitors or enemies were, were all orchestrated by the company, not just on screen but their off-screen lives were scripted "scenes" as well.

Sean Grant didn’t seem to want to discuss this issue further with his agent; after informing him of his upcoming schedule, he hung up, blocking the incessant voice on the other side of the phone.

"Hello, Miss Grella."

Finally, after getting into the car, he struck up a conversation with her for the first time, "This is our first meeting."

"You know about me?"

"I’ve heard some things about you, like how a third-rate director named Powell deceived you; his poorly made movies couldn’t make it to the screen. You contemplated suicide, but a tourist who wandered onto the rooftop changed your mind, so after returning to your room, you booked a plane ticket to leave this city and escape far away."

At this point, Sean Grant suddenly shifted his tone, "But after nightfall, you started feeling strange, as if something was calling you from the hotel rooftop. So you left your room and went there alone... but as you approached the edge of the rooftop, you felt someone push you, causing you to fall from the roof."

As Sean Grant narrated, a wave of intense fear engulfed Grella’s heart.

She widened her eyes, unable to say a word.

She too was a devoted viewer of "Master of Rescuers." In the show, each appearance of Sean Grant reassured the audience, but this time, she felt only fear.

He continued, "The question is, why didn’t you die, Miss Grella? Is it because you implanted a hovering prosthetic, or maybe you are actually a Psychic?"

"...It was you!"

Grella managed to squeeze out a faint voice.

"Don’t misunderstand, I’m just here to help,"

Sean Grant said, "When you fell from the rooftop, did you see the face of the assailant?"

"No."

Grella sounded even lower as she recalled the horrific incident, "There was no assailant."

There was no one behind her, yet she had definitely been pushed.

It was as though Sean Grant had installed surveillance probes on her, knowing every detail of what she had experienced tonight.

Hearing this, Sean Grant sighed deeply.

This too was within his expectations.

"I’m sorry, Miss Grella, but you are still in danger. Whoever is trying to kill you will strike again,"

"But why? Why would anyone want to kill me?"

Grella couldn’t understand.

As an obscure actress in District Four, she didn’t even merit being resented.

"That’s also what I intend to find out,"

Sean Grant shrugged, "In the past few months, there have been 23 falling incidents in District Four, Miss Grella. You are the only survivor."
