Chapter 785: Chapter 783: Team Victory_1
Victory!
After an unprecedented fierce battle, they had finally cut down even a T3 level opponent!
"I ask you."
RT6 could hardly bear to watch anymore, her tone turning somewhat unfriendly as she questioned the "Emperor," "Why do you put on such an act as if you fought through three hundred tough rounds to achieve victory? What does this have to do with you, really?"
The emissary of the Lord of Tides was dead.
In an almost bizarre way.
Because even now, RT6 still hadn’t figured out what pressing "X" to execute an enemy actually meant; it sounded like a term that only existed in games.
In fact, even Diago didn’t know how he had managed it; his explanation was to "go with the flow."
"Because we are a team."
The "Emperor" quickly accepted reality, "This is a team victory."
The experiences in The First Region made him change many of his views. In his opinion, the outcome of the revolution in The First Region was undoubtedly a standard team victory; they fought with all their might, holding the divine envoy, Triss, within the Holy Temple, creating enormous space for the battle in the city below.
This feeling of not having to shoulder everything alone wasn’t bad; it even felt somewhat mesmerizing to him.
However, he noticed the change in RT6’s tone and asked curiously, "Isn’t this a good thing? You sound a bit unhappy?"
"I would have preferred that you take on the emissaries yourself."
RT6 had her own selfish reasons; after all, every part of the "Emperor’s" body was handpicked by her. Although losing to Triss could be considered getting his just deserts, it also made her feel as if she had been defeated.
The battle with the emissary of the Lord of Tides was an excellent opportunity to prove her craftsmanship.
But this emissary had been killed in a bizarrely abrupt way before he could even show his face, making the T3 level seem like fillers with no real significance.
As the saying goes, when the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold; in the "Emperor’s" theory, she was nothing more than T2 class.
"And you, why do I feel like you have become a different person lately?"
The former "Emperor," in his quest to find and eradicate Shadow, would often wander in the "external world," the very image of a lofty Demon Hunter, yet now he not only easily accepted the reality of his effortless win but also seemed to relish in it, even considering celebrating with champagne.
"Were you just putting on an act in front of me before?"
"No."
The "Emperor" said, "But don’t you think that kind of life is too exhausting?"
Moreover, he wasn’t without his contributions to the team.
He had killed the wicked ruler of Atlantis and helped Paladin out of a bind when the sea monster appeared, saving him from the initial deadly attack of the stomach acid. No matter the situation, the appearance of powerful enemies is often the most dangerous time; to highlight their might, typically someone needs to be the sacrificial lamb.
And he had timely prevented such a tragedy from happening.
Apart from that, he also helped clean up the remaining blood and stomach fluid on the ground, paving a path for others to the prison exterior.
"Don’t be like that, genius mechanic; I hope you can be a little happier."
RT6 took a long hard look at the "Emperor" before concluding, "You must have caught a virus. After we leave the City of Atlantis, come see me; I want to give you a thorough check-up."
But the atmosphere on the other side wasn’t as light-hearted.
Zeruo was dead, and Paladin sat dispiritedly before the throne.
The glaring sunlight shone on his face, and all he needed to do was look up to see that figure he longed for day and night—and he had come here precisely for her. Just like the folk tales described, as a Knight rescuing the Kingdom Princess.
But at this moment, the princess, in her righteous and despairing state, was bound upon the throne.
Underneath the skeleton, which no longer revealed her identity, only a beating heart seemed to suggest she was still alive, and the only thing he could do now was to help the princess escape this eternal torment.
When that beating heart stopped, all his pain would also be gone.
"Paladin..."
The ethereal Whisper echoed in his ears, taking him back over seventy years.
Back then, he had been a curious youth, eager to spend each day by the princess’s side, learning all about the lost kingdom’s history.
"This is important, please remember it deeply in your heart."
At least, the princess’s voice sounded just the same as it had back then.
Soft and tender, it seemed her will was uneroded by pain, "All the secrets are hidden in the Octave Box, and one day you’ll understand the truth... But now, please help me end all this."
"I..."
Upon hearing these words, the Paladin clenched the iron pipe in his hands.
He knew that destroying the still-beating heart would stop the curse of the Tide Master, but another selfish thought made him hesitate to act.
The Paladin wanted to forget everything, but the occasional disturbances from outside kept dragging him back to reality time and time again.
Diago had told him that the mechanical legion was engaged in battle with the Tidal Sect believers and the Kingdom Army in the City of Kings, throwing the entire city into chaos.
Just as planned, no one noticed what was happening in the prison.
"It’s time, Paladin, you need to return to your comrades."
The ethereal voice came again, and the Paladin could hear a tone of relief.
He bit his lip, planted the iron pipe on the ground, and propped up his body.
With each step forward, his feet felt heavier.
The short distance of a few meters took him a minute to traverse, and he finally arrived in front of the skeleton.
Then, lifting the iron rod high, he shouted, "Rest assured, we will rescue this kingdom from the curse of the Tide Master!"
The shout disturbed the people outside
Even the air seemed to be filled with the sorrow of parting.
The Paladin closed his eyes, steeled his heart, and the iron rod came crashing down.
But before the iron rod could strike the beating heart, someone grabbed his wrist, nipping in the bud his attempt to commit the crime of murdering the Kingdom Princess.
"Emperor" sir?
He looked up, confused at the "Emperor" who had appeared behind him at some point, who had even activated the overdraft mode of his mechanical body to stop him.
"Although the conversation you just had is quite moving, there’s actually no need to smash her heart."
"This is the curse of the Tide Master; for them, death is the only release."
"Who says?"
The "Emperor" temporarily took on the role of a megaphone, conveying RT6’s words to the Paladin verbatim, "That’s an outdated view, with the way of thinking behind the times. If you are willing, you can give her a mechanical body."
