Chapter 757: Chapter 755: The Fallen One_1
"Why?"
After the "Emperor" had sent the doctors away, the weak Diago on the sickbed finally spoke, "You might incur the wrath of the Tidal Church because of this."
He had been awake for a while.
And from the bed, he had witnessed the entire process of his companions praying to the Father God.
However, he did not recognize the mechanical being before him; he had only heard people at the port mention him as the oddity called Franken.
Franken was his name, coincidentally identical to a certain scientific oddity from before the third war.
His deeds were widely known at the port; some said that on the day when pirates invaded Silvermoon Harbor, he had single-handedly repelled all the pirates.
Diago had thought that Father Godel had bought Franken over, and that he would be delivered back to the Tidal Church, but the subsequent actions of the other party had confused him; he seemed not to be in league with the Tidal Church at all.
"Because I find you very interesting, Diago," the "Emperor" replied, "That makes two favors you owe me now, and I believe you are a grateful person."
He could not possibly be manipulated by mere clergy, though he still needed them to travel with him to the Misty Archipelago. But there were many ways to achieve his goal, including intimidation, which could be a direct and effective means besides temptation.
But before that, he longed to understand the "Father God" that Diago and the others had mentioned.
Even though his behavior resembled that of a concerned old father worrying over his children, his powers clearly went beyond that. Under His protection, these orphans had become very special beings. To the port residents who lacked understanding of Psychic Abilities, even if they saw the orphans face to face, they would subconsciously ignore any traces of their existence.
This was typical interference-type Spiritual Energy.
Yet, altering the cognition of the entire port city’s population would require an unimaginable intensity of Spiritual Energy as support. Even he, a Six Stars rescuer, was affected by this power, and the existence of Diago and the others had been erased from his subconscious. He had come to recognize the presence of these children through reasoning and other rational means.
As for the three people just now, it was through him that Diago was found.
"Yes, you saved me," Diago said sincerely.
If not for the oddity that was Franken, he might not have known that the Father God preferred him to continue living strongly.
He had heard the result of his companions’ prayers just a moment ago.
The Father God wanted them to trust the doctor, eat more nutritious food, and aim for a swift recovery.
If this was what the Father God wanted to see, then he would do everything possible to survive in this cold world.
"Then now is the time to repay the favor. I will be leaving this city, and it’s unlikely we’ll see each other again in the future," the "Emperor" said, "So before I leave this city, I hope you can satisfy my curiosity, tell me who let you know of the ’Father God’ and became His believer?"
In his view, whether it was the Lunar Eclipse Sect, Tidal Church, or the Father God mentioned by these orphans, their essence was all about spreading belief. This seemed to be a tactic unique to deities, and he theorized that perhaps the number of believers could make their power grow stronger and stronger.
"I, I don’t know," Diago replied, "I just saw them, it was the whispers that told me."
"You mean to say, those whispers appeared out of thin air in your mind?"
A flash of red light flickered suddenly in the "Emperor"’s eyes, but his face, fully replaced by machinery, could no longer display any human emotion.
He had not expected to receive such an answer.
This simple reply had set off a storm in his heart.
As someone who had lived through the Dark Age, these whispers were all too familiar to him.
The one commonality among prisoners locked up in the Psychic Prison was that they had all once heard the guidance of the Whispers and followed everything they were told.
After the end of the dark age, he had been roaming in the "outside world", secretly investigating the existence of those Whispers for many years.
As the prisoners were incarcerated, the Review Meeting believed the dark age had passed, and the United Government was about to welcome a new era, but in the "Emperor’s" opinion, what they had encountered was merely the surface; those unknown Whispers were the real culprits behind everything.
Yet, after so many years, he had never again been able to find any information about the Whispers.
It seemed that with the imprisonment of those prisoners, the Whispers had also completely disappeared from the world.
"I dreamed about them while I was sleeping."
"They?"
"Yes, they are also followers of the Father God."
"What are their characteristics, and where are they now?"
The "Emperor’s" tone became much more urgent.
"I don’t know, I only know they all wore masks, the kind of false faces used for balls, and then they taught me how to contact Father God, telling me Father God would help us break free from Father Godel’s control."
And indeed, it was so.
Diago didn’t know what had changed in them, but when he escaped from the burning ship, he thought Father Godel and his minions would catch him and interrogate him severely; instead, they, along with everyone else at the port, neglected him and the other orphans, walking straight past them.
This proved that Father God truly cared for them, He did exist.
And the words He had just entrusted proved that He truly cared about the safety of every child.
This made Diago’s faith even more firm, also providing him with the motivation to keep living.
Perhaps one day they would have the power to leave the port that bore their sorrowful pasts and have the chance to witness the existence of Father God with their own eyes.
For the believers, to be able to see His existence would be an unparalleled gift.
"How will I find them?"
The "Emperor" didn’t want to let go of any clues that led to the Whispers.
These orphans from the harbor had not experienced that dark and tumultuous era; they didn’t know what the Whispers signified.
Perhaps another dark age had already begun to unfold before his eyes.
Or perhaps...
These children were the "Dominate", "Justice", δ of this era.
From the moment they heard the Whispers, the trajectory of their lives had already changed.
"We will contact you."
The instant the "Emperor" heard this voice, the operating system in his mind automatically entered combat alert mode.
There was never anyone else in the room.
The sentence came from Diago’s mouth, but he looked puzzled, as if he had no idea what he had just said.
It definitely wasn’t Diago’s voice.
"If that is your wish."
And the Whispers continued, piercing his auditory system, reaching straight into his mind, "We will come for you, fallen one."
