Chapter 737: Chapter 735: The Ceremony of Becoming a God_1
These plants... they’re digesting the bodies of those fish!
When the "Emperor" looked into Trian, he also finally noticed this detail that sent chills down his spine. The massive creatures that had fallen from the "sky" had all become nutrients for the plants. Huge fish bones were situated around the Holy Temple, making him feel as if he was in a graveyard.
And this was Trian’s true purpose!
"Retreat, she is no longer an opponent you can handle,"
The suggestion from the woman in the "Emperor’s" mind reappeared, only this time mixed with helplessness and frustration.
This made him pause.
It was the first time he had received an order to retreat since he had transplanted his cyborg body.
"You should heed her advice."
Trian also offered the same suggestion as the voice in his mind, "You are not His target. The true enemy is still out there. You still have a chance to survive if you leave now."
She looked down, surveying the First Region being incessantly devoured by the plants. The need for such an immense amount of nutrients was also to confront that unprecedented enemy. "I hope you can survive and witness the dawn of the new era with us."
To retreat or to stay...
That was the question.
If he followed reason and the settings of the operating system, he should listen to the advice of both, at least until he had thoroughly understood the enemy before making plans. But this time, the "Emperor" stopped the operating system from issuing commands to him and forcefully put his foot back down to the ground.
"You..."
The voice in his mind seemed surprised but did not continue.
Just then, the "Emperor" had defied the instructions issued by the built-in operating system. In theory, his entire body had been transformed into a precise machine, with very little of himself remaining.
However, she couldn’t bluntly convey this message to the "Emperor," for he was still completely unaware of the secrets of his own body.
"I must stop you."
The "Emperor" took a step toward Trian. "It is my duty."
In an instant, the gravity reached an unbearable intensity.
Even the Six Stars candidates fleeing within the Holy Temple were affected by the gravity. Despite the protection of the Psychic Energy field, they inevitably fell down, their bodies glued to the ground, unable to even stand up.
Without the protection of the Psychic Energy field, their bones would have probably been broken by this uncontrollable gravity.
The petals behind Trian and the ferocious man-eating plants were pinned down to the ground, prostrating themselves before the "Emperor." As for the deep-sea creatures that had been drained of their flesh, their bones fractured and crumbled under the tearing force of gravity.
In this zone of heavy gravity that made it difficult for all living things to move, Trian still stood in place, her face showing a smile of relief.
"I hope you can survive, but if you had listened to my advice, you wouldn’t have turned the entire forest upside down for someone as insignificant as me who had disappeared."
She understood the reason why the "Emperor" stayed to confront her.
He was fulfilling his duty as the Six Stars rescuer, saving those surrounded by the plants.
To face a Deity for a group of people he had never met.
After all these years, even though his body had been mechanized, even though he no longer recognized his former appearance, the inherent nature within him had never changed.
"Trian, it’s not too late to turn back now."
The "Emperor" walked towards her step by step.
"Remember what I just told you? You’ve been stagnant for far too long. Human power ultimately has its limits. Even though you’ve been called ’Emperor’ and have turned your body into a machine, you can’t surpass those limits."
For a Psychic, abandoning a weak body and continuing to exist as a Consciousness Entity is the first step towards the path of deification.
And this information was what the prisoners in the jail had told them.
"Only tangible things are bound by gravity."
When Trian’s voice came from behind him in an instant, the "Emperor’s" pupils contracted, but he had already made the most instinctive reaction. The blade forged from Spiritual Energy slashed towards the source of the voice.
Trian was unguarded, allowing the light blue blade to penetrate through her body.
And the "Emperor" also clearly saw the process of space distortion. The Spiritual Energy blade passed through her body as if striking the air, leaving no trace whatsoever.
Trian’s hand reached towards his neck, a strong sense of crisis looming over him.
"What a pity,"
Trian’s eyes showed a hint of pity, "Your body and your brain have developed different opinions."
This expensive mechanical body was completely useless at this moment because the moment the "Emperor" had walked toward her, the voice in his mind had unilaterally disconnected from him, seemingly having completely given up on this "finished product" created by her.
"About the voice in your mind, if we have a chance to meet again, I will tell you where it came from."
Her outstretched hand gently caressed the "Emperor’s" face.
The next moment, the overwhelming gravity engulfing the Holy Temple vanished.
Standing before her was nothing but a mechanical body missing its head.
Trian looked at her own palm, lost in thought, and whispered, "Just try to survive."
She quickly adjusted her emotions and turned to look at the entrance of the Holy Temple. Before the spatial leap, an unexpected group of guests had broken in here, and now, the sound of messy footsteps had reached the entrance of the garden.
Both sides had discovered each other’s presence and were silently confronting each other.
The newcomers were, of course, blatantly shocked to see that the "Emperor" had lost its mechanical head.
"Welcome," she said.
Rose, Jasmine, δ, and Hog Foster.
Unlike the "Emperor," these were people who were listed on their roster.
...
Meanwhile, alarms were blaring through the building of the Galaxy Transport Company.
The agents from Military Intelligence Section Seven were running back and forth, but their range of movement was limited to this area—all the agents who tried to leave the company to investigate outside became targets of the plant attacks. As soon as they touched the plants, their energy was drained, and they were bound by the vines, unable to move.
They had sacrificed themselves as bait to gather precious information.
Even so, they didn’t know how to face these enemies that covered the entire First Region. There were simply too many of them. Since their emergence, the entire city had fallen within a mere five minutes. All the city’s defenses systems were paralyzed, or more precisely, the High-level Parliament that had control over the systems had not exercised their authority appropriately.
They had allowed the plants to occupy the entire city.
The vines that had infiltrated the buildings spared no food source. Those who were immobilized by them invariably became nourishment for the plants, continuously supplying them with energy. Their panic and uneasiness were excellent nutrients, also making the plants grow even more rapidly.
Even the small scales of resistance were quickly crushed under the seemingly endless wave of plant attacks.
Feelings of powerlessness and despair filled everyone’s hearts, and Military Intelligence Section Seven was no exception.
To them, it was clearly a battle between humans and a deity.
In those tragic epics, no matter how the human heroes resisted, they could only face a doomed fate in the end, that was the "destiny" laid out for them.
All they could do, before all communications were cut off, was to coordinate as much of the First Region’s limited remaining forces as they possibly could. They managed to contact some rescuers who hadn’t been caught; they were now scattered throughout the city, fighting alone.
The Chairperson of the Council took on the role of commander personally, witnessing the fate of the city from the command center.
"Chairperson, those plants are about to infiltrate!" an agent reported urgently. The plants seemed to have detected their presence and, after several unsuccessful assaults, a large amount of unknown vegetation appeared near the Galaxy Transport Company. They clung to the ground and walls, and swarms of insects, like an army, surged towards the company’s building.
According to the information they had, these insects would cause violent explosions upon death.
But...
Their numbers were simply too many.
There were even more than those that had appeared on the day they had planned to assassinate the Chairperson of the Council, and the number of insects that day had been sufficient to trigger a Psychic storm that swept through a third of the city!
They could hardly imagine the destruction that would result if these insects exploded at the same time.
"There are two Six Stars rescuers coming here in a hovercar."
That was their last hope.
The radar showed the hovercar’s position.
The rampaging plants caused the hovercar to veer off course; they arranged for agents to go to the rooftop of the Galaxy Transport Company to receive the Six Stars rescuers.
They saw the silhouette of the hovercar; the self-driving hovercar was heading their way.
But then, their last sliver of hope seemed to shatter.
The hovercar slowed down more and more, finally hovering in the city sky hundreds of meters away from them. They didn’t know what had happened inside the hovercar, but the agents quickly noticed that a squad of insects had climbed up the walls to the company’s rooftop terrace.
"Take them out, don’t let them get close!"
The agents fired their guns, but the bizarre scene continued.
The bullets that should have flown out of the barrel stopped in the air the moment they left the gun. A startled agent threw his gun away, and as his hand left the grip, even the gun stopped moving and floated in front of him in a bizarre manner.
"Boom—!"
A nearby explosion sounded.
Instinctively, they covered their bodies with their hands, even though they knew that such protection was futile against an explosion at close range.
Quiet returned to the terrace once again.
The expected heatwave did not come. After some time had passed, someone finally looked towards where the insects had exploded.
They saw the heatwave that had burst out from the explosion.
Even the flames had been stopped right in front of them.
They could clearly see the insect bodies torn apart, everything within their view was frozen at the moment of the explosion.
Time had stopped flowing ever since.
