Chapter 736: Chapter 734: Rain_1

It rained.

Li Youqian looked up at the pitch-black sky. The Six Stars candidates in the adjacent cells also became restless due to the sudden downpour; they had nowhere to hide and cursed, wanting to switch to a cell with a roof overhead, but their requests went unanswered.

Like prisoners in other jails, they seemed to have no human rights.

In fact, he did not even know where he was.

Li Youqian only knew they had been taken to a place resembling a holy temple, where all the cells were located in an open area inside the temple. Aside from the iron cages, there were no other supporting facilities; it looked like they were hastily constructed.

The most noticeable landmark was the Old Tree stone sculpture in the center of the open space; he guessed the deity worshiped in the temple must be related to plants.

The prison guards responsible for watching over them were not humans but man-eating plants that he had never seen before.

Li Youqian had been silently estimating the time all along.

He had been attacked in the latter half of the night; by all accounts, it should have been daylight by now, but ever since arriving here, the sky overhead had been shrouded in darkness, and even the light from the moon was blocked. He suspected that while it appeared to be open to the elements, there was a closed dome higher up.

The source of illumination came from several oil lamps that burned.

But... how could this sudden rain be explained?

At first, it was just a drizzle, but in a matter of minutes, the rain intensity increased to an unbelievable level, especially in certain areas where it was as if someone was pouring water directly from a bucket.

"Why is this rain so salty?"

Before long, he heard complaints from the adjacent cell.

Licking the back of his hand wet from the rain skeptically, Li Youqian frowned almost immediately.

It was indeed salty, not only unquenchable but also causing him extreme discomfort, for beyond the salty taste, the rainwater had a fishy smell of unknown origin mixed in it. The smell reminded him of sipping seawater.

It wasn’t long before the prisoners confined in the cells realized the source of the fishy smell.

Some were drenched by mucus mixed in the rain, and while they were cursing loudly, a gargantuan object fell from the sky. One of the cells was directly smashed open by the falling object, and when they stopped their curses and complaints to look more closely, they realized that what had landed on the ground was a gigantic tentacle.

That tentacle seemed to have been severed not long ago. It writhed on the ground for several moments before finally coming to a stop.

For a moment, the cells fell eerily silent.

Everyone watched the fallen object with varied expressions, the shape of the tentacle made them think of the giant squid, a creature that lived in the deep sea, which, according to reports, had attacked a submarine that had suddenly lost contact with the United Government a few years ago.

From the severed tentacle, they could imagine just how colossal the squid must be.

After the third war, the deep sea had become a forbidden zone for humanity, with every attempt to explore the depths ending in failure. A large number of dangerous mutant creatures had appeared in the deep sea, and they still found it difficult to adapt to combat in that environment.

Various signs led Li Youqian to a ludicrous thought—they were indeed in the deep sea, with those dangerous mutant creatures inhabiting the space above their heads.

The door to the cell was then opened.

The sudden falling tentacle had opened the cage and also sent the plant into a state of tremor. One of the candidates seized the chance and rushed out of the cell.

They could no longer continue to stay here.

Who knew what else might fall from the sky in a while. If it were to fall directly on them, they might die in the most frustrating manner possible.

Attracted by the heavy rain as well, was a temporary rescue team assembled by Rose.

The interference-type Spiritual Energy of δ penetrated layers of the maze, sensing the strong spiritual energy fluctuations in the rainwater.

This was not an ordinary rainfall, it seemed to be the product of a fierce battle.

"The location is in the southwest corner."

δ spoke, it had a premonition that the Holy Temple was getting closer to them, and the road ahead was becoming fraught with danger, as the number of man-eating plants significantly increased. They seemed to be frightened, restlessly hissing.

Rose took on the task of clearing the way, where thunder roared, a new path was carved out.

δ looked at the scene before it, a path it had never imagined.

It had never thought that one day it would cooperate with rescuers, and the strong spiritual energy fluctuations in the rainwater could not help but trigger another thought.

Perhaps, those plants were not the only "gods" created by a collective consciousness.

In places they had yet to explore, similar entities might have emerged long before.

And this was precisely the situation of the "Emperor" at the moment; he could no longer count how many colossal creatures from the deep sea he had annihilated in the darkness. His cyborg body gave him the ability to breathe underwater, and his abilities enabled him to move freely in the deep sea. All this seemed to be fated.

If any link in the chain was missing, he would have been instantly devoured by these sea creatures.

But...

Those eyes were still watching him.

The closer he got to those eyes, the larger the mutated creatures he encountered became.

The "Emperor" gradually realized that those eyes were much farther from him than he had imagined, and its true size...

He dismissed the thought of continuing to ponder.

Because another creature, the size of a small hill, had appeared in his sight.

He prepared for battle; however, in the next moment, the "Emperor’s" gaze shifted.

After a moment of haziness, the darkness before his eyes suddenly vanished.

The Sun broke through the darkness, and he was passing through the clouds, beneath his feet was an airship, and the tiny-looking First Region. The Holy Temple floated eerily above the entire First Region. If not for the pervasive fishy smell on him, he might have doubted whether everything he had just experienced was a hallucination.

But what happened next did not leave him much time to be stunned.

The entire First Region was within his view, and the "Emperor" naturally noticed the supernatural occurrences the city was undergoing.

Endless plants burst through the ground, climbing over every building, the magnificent structures seemed to be parasitized by the plants, these wildly proliferating plants took the city like lively tentacles.

The "Emperor" wanted to join the battle but found his feet seemingly sealed by some force, just like the Holy Temple, he too was suspended in mid-air.

"Hard work,"

Not far away, Trian bowed sincerely to him, "You have already brought us enough nutrients, it’s time to rest for a while."
