Chapter 723: Chapter 721: The Way of Keeping Good Health_1
Encouraging Yaku to seek out Song Lan was Jasmine’s idea. Since this morning, she had been secretly observing Yaku’s behavior. Ever since the two met, this young Six Stars candidate seemed like a completely different person.
He was filled with boundless passion...
He bought a thermos, goji berries, and even got an electric water heater, and then he sat near the window for nearly two hours straight.
He reclined in the computer chair, letting the warm morning sunshine spill over him.
For a moment, Yaku reminded Jasmine of some of the older folks in the rescuer department who were just coasting through their days.
"What are you doing here?"
Jasmine cleared her throat softly and tiptoed over to Yaku.
"Cultivating."
Yaku was too lazy to even open his eyelids. He felt that after nearly two months of cultivation, he was almost in sync with the computer, and now no one could make him get up from this chair.
He had always believed that cultivation required blood and sweat, whether it was with researchers at the Spiritual Energy development institutions of his childhood or the company that later took him in. However, Song Lan had shown him another path.
"Sister Jasmine, I feel like I’ve wasted the past twenty years of my life. Cultivation can actually be this relaxing and enjoyable."
Rob Lucci truly is a master.
He could easily lie here all day long, until the sun went down.
"Hold on a second."
Jasmine frowned, "The way of cultivation Mr. Lucky taught you is to lie down here?"
"Of course not. Teacher Lucky also guided me on many details, like always having a thermos on hand, explaining that goji berry water helps regulate the body, and finding a spot to nap in the sun, which is beneficial for my body."
"You just said it was a ’nap’, didn’t you?"
"Nurturing life is cultivating."
Yaku understood Jasmine’s doubts because he was skeptical at first, too. He bought the thermos and soaked the goji berries in water just to give it a try. But the moment he moved his computer chair to the window and leaned against it, all his troubles were soothed by the warmth. He felt his state of mind had reached an unprecedented level, as if he had established a connection with nature and the universe amid the light.
"Sister Jasmine, if you don’t believe me, you can try it out, too. There’s another computer chair over there."
If it had been any other time, he would have eagerly arranged the chair for Jasmine and brewed her a cup of goji berry water, but after a morning of cultivation, Yaku’s mind opened up, and he knew that all of these passing matters were just transient clouds; his heart attained true peace because of it.
Different from the suddenly wise and indifferent Yaku, Jasmine, seeing him with his eyelids barely open, suddenly had the urge to pluck his hair out.
Now, with the United Government in turmoil and the High-level Parliament dominating, it’s possible that the other Six Stars rescuers have been turned. Yet here was Yaku, still having the leisure to nap.
How can you sleep at this age?
That said, deep down, she was actually curious about the cultivation method provided by Song Lan. Half believably, she moved a computer chair to the window, eager to see what was so remarkable about this method of cultivation!
...
Jasmine was awakened by pain.
When she finally opened her eyes, she saw Rose’s furious face and the darkened sky behind her sister.
"...Sister?"
The pain came from her ears, which the furious Rose was clutching and viciously twisting.
Rose glared at her fiercely, "Is this what you call important work?"
She was nearly frantic. The entire day, Military Intelligence Section Seven hadn’t seen Jasmine. They all said Jasmine had not returned since leaving in the morning. Rose subconsciously thought Jasmine might have been targeted by the High-level Parliament due to recent contacts with other Six Stars candidates and had met with foul play. Only when she used her cellphone’s location system to locate Jasmine did she find peaceful Yaku and Jasmine in this deserted floor.
"How is it evening already?"
Jasmine asked in a panic; she remembered wanting to verify the cultivation method taught by Song Lan only to discover it was dark when she opened her eyes.
But the moment she leaned against the soft cushion and felt the warm sunshine, she experienced an indescribable feeling, as if all the world’s troubles were drifting away from her.
"You’re asking me?"
Rose said irritably, "How about you explain what the two of you are doing here?"
"...Cultivating."
"Hmm?"
"Ow, sister, stop twisting, I’m telling the truth! This is a cultivation insight from Mr. Lucky!"
Jasmine struggled to sit up straight. If it weren’t for her sister grabbing her ears, she wouldn’t want to get up from the chair at all. She felt she had become one with the computer chair, her closest comrade. Sitting up was already the greatest compromise she could make; no one would separate her from her dear comrade.
"I think you two just found an excuse to slack off here. Get up from that chair now!"
Rose’s eyebrows shot up, and her gaze grew even more severe.
Every decision they made at the moment was child’s play and would directly determine not only their fate but also the future of the entire United Government. Every moment was of the essence.
"Did you completely forget about today’s events?"
Upon Rose’s reminder, Jasmine’s face changed color. She glanced outside at the evening sky and said with a guilty conscience, "Has he arrived?"
"He arrived half an hour ago, and here you are, fast asleep!"
"Who arrived?"
Upon hearing the conversation between the two, Yaku also opened his eyes. After a whole day of training, he felt refreshed as if vigor filled his entire being. According to what Teacher Lucky had theorized, he had now gained a full day’s worth of time over those who did not understand the importance of looking after one’s health.
Do not fixate on the strength or weakness of the moment.
Only those who survive to the end are the true strongest.
He engraved these teachings in his heart.
"The Emperor, and while you were sleeping, he already met with the people from the High-level Parliament."
"The Emperor... is that the title given to him by the rescuer department?"
Because of the protection agreement of the Six Stars rescuers, Yaku was unfamiliar with most of them. However, just from this title alone, one could ascertain that it certainly belonged to a person with an overwhelming presence.
"The Chairperson of the Council also hopes that you could meet him for a private talk before the High-level Parliament."
Rose looked exasperated, almost as if she couldn’t bear the disappointment. It was hard for her to imagine her sister missing an opportunity over such a trivial reason as "oversleeping."
If they could secure his support, it would no doubt improve their situation considerably. The High-level Parliament realized this too; thus, they extended a grand invitation to him as soon as he arrived in The First Region.
"Sister Jasmine, does this ’Emperor’ have quite the background?"
Yaku, now well-rested... having completed his training, felt it was time to attend to some serious matters.
"Haven’t you always asked me who is the strongest among the Six Stars rescuers?"
"But didn’t you tell me before that each Six-Star rescuer has their own field of expertise, and it wasn’t possible to determine who was superior?"
Yaku had always remembered Rose’s answer, for as a young man eager for rankings in combat strength, Rose was the only one willing to answer these questions.
Indeed, Six Stars rescuers were forbidden from private fights, and their respective companies or families also intentionally kept them at a distance from one another.
However, from what he had gathered, it was said that the gap between the Six Stars rescuers was quite noticeable.
"That’s true, but agencies do perform private assessments of each Six Stars rescuer."
Companies and families were far more eager to understand this issue than others, as it would directly impact their predictions for any potential civil unrest in the future.
For this, they spent large sums to gather intelligence and to form the most professional assessment teams within the United Government.
"It is said they conduct comprehensive scoring based on different operational environments and each individual’s characteristics; no matter how the environment changes, one name consistently ranks at the top, and ’Emperor’ is one of them. Assessors regard him as powerful in all aspects, with no weaknesses."
After Wild Bone, a contender nearly as capable as him, was attacked, the Emperor subtly became seen as the strongest in the eyes of the higher-ups, so it seemed to the Chairperson of the Council as well, judging by his attitude towards the Emperor.
"Sister Jasmine, you never told me all that last time."
The revelations stirred excitement in Yaku, who was ever the enthusiastic youth.
But immediately after, another question came to mind, and he asked, "So Sister Jasmine, how about you? How do you rank in the assessments?"
"I am the only Support Type Psychic among the current Six Stars rescuers."
Rose stated indifferently. In this era where offensive powers were a dime a dozen, support was the scarcest talent.
Even the current acknowledged strongest Six Stars rescuer would have to seek her out if they were injured.
This was probably why the Chairperson of the Council believed she could get the Emperor to meet with him.
"I think you shouldn’t worry so much. From what I know of him, he’s not someone the High-level Parliament can easily buy."
Rose consoled her anxious sister, "If he finds out the High-level Parliament is secretly colluding with ’Dominate,’ he might just flip the Review Meeting’s building upside down."
Rose, however, shot her a disdainful look.
She felt Rose, who had become overly friendly with δ, had no ground to criticize the High-level Parliament. If word got out, her status as a Six Stars rescuer would first be revoked by the rescuer department, and a series of severe interrogations would follow.
Being cognizant of Yaku’s presence, a hotheaded young man, she couldn’t voice her thoughts plainly but used a stern look to warn her increasingly reckless sister.
"Oh, Sister Jasmine, I have another question."
Yaku seemed completely oblivious to the intense exchange of glares between the two women and asked curiously, "How old is ’The Emperor’ now?"
"I don’t know, why do you ask?"
Both returned his questioning gaze.
"It doesn’t matter if you don’t know. Does he seem younger or older than me?"
"Older."
"Then I’m relieved."
With the answer he had been seeking, Yaku laid back comfortably in his computer chair, a confident smile naturally spreading across his face, causing Rose and Rose to look at each other in bewilderment.
As Teacher Lucky has said, training is never about the short-term.
Those who have the last laugh are always the ones who know the art of cultivating one’s health.
