Chapter 662: Chapter 662: I Often Help Some Runaways_1
The first to arrive at the scene was Jasmine.
What presented before her was an incredibly eerie sight—the room had been mostly destroyed by the recent blast, and Rose now stood in the center of that bizarre unknown magic circle, hanging her head and staring blankly at the ground.
The Ceremony magic circle emitted a crimson glow, and along with it emerged constantly writhing tentacles and chunks of flesh.
Then, the ground beneath Rose’s feet opened its eyes, and it seemed as if her gaze was firmly imprisoned in the very center of the circle.
Even stranger, Richard Gervis had found his head that was blasted away by a blade, and when Jasmine arrived, inky tentacles emerging from his severed neck were reattaching the head back to its original position.
The broken gaps disappeared at a visible speed, and his facial features also came back to life.
"You arrived just in time."
Colin Capello’s personal maid stood at the edge of the light barrier, giving Jasmine a chilling smile, "Modern technology is truly amazing, it only takes such an unnoticeable object to calm down this lively chief knight. Hey, your sister is here, aren’t you going to say hello?"
Upon hearing this, Rose seemed to have received an order and lifted her lifeless eyes, staring blankly at Jasmine.
"Richard Gervis!"
Jasmine gritted her teeth, venomously calling out his name.
The worst-case scenario had still happened; the Worms had replaced the leader of the Iris Consortium, and with it the family’s secrets, as well as the back-end administrator’s authority for the conceptual armament had also fallen into the hands of the other party.
Almost at the same time, the shadow beneath the maid’s feet darted towards her right hand like a stabbing thrust.
Ink-black blood flowed on the ground; the maid reined in her smile and covered the wound on her right hand in pain.
Unlike before, these wounds did not heal rapidly, but the chip was quickly absorbed into her body in a flash.
"But, the person I truly wanted to greet is you, little δ, my dear sister."
She gazed directly at the shadow wavering within the wall, "I never expected you to become a lapdog for the United Government. Have you forgotten your ideals and the teachings of Father God to us?"
"The real traitor is you."
δ retorted sharply.
It wasn’t until she looked closely at her opponent that she noticed the change in "Domination."
The entity was no longer purely energetic; within the familiar darkness of Spiritual Energy, there seemed to contain something she had never seen before, and just as she glimpsed the shape of its consciousness, an endless barrage of whispers flooded into her brain simultaneously.
Under the influence of consciousness, "Domination" seemed like a zealous Believer, "The Old God has perished, and the era of the New God is coming. Little δ, it’s not too late to join us now."
"You all? Who else is there besides you?"
δ became vigilant.
"Once you join us, you’ll naturally know. Believe me, the New God will transform you."
"Dream on!"
"Domination" did not seem surprised by δ’s reply, and in her palm appeared another object, "It seems you care a lot about this rescuer named Jasmine, so how about I give her to you as a gift?"
The moment she saw the object, Jasmine’s pupils dilated sharply; she instinctively took action, but at almost the same time, an irresistible force dominated her.
Something drilled into her brain, allowing her to sense everything in the outside world, yet her consciousness seemed to be in endless chaos.
Only her body continued to move forward a few steps by inertia.
"Hmm...?"
"Domination" paused. In her eyes, everything Jasmine did seemed like meaningless struggle. The object in her hand was the product created by the research institution to completely control them.
But Jasmine’s last action was not directed at her or at Richard Gervis.
The hand she stretched out finally crossed the crimson Ceremony magic circle, touching Rose.
What exactly had she done in her last moments when she could retain her own free will?
Or perhaps, did she just want to hold her sister’s hand in this moment of despair?
The uncertainty made "Domination" somewhat uneasy because even in the memories of Richard Gervis, there was no explanation for Jasmine’s abilities.
"Get up, kill it."
The moment the command was given, an arc of electricity had already pierced through the wall where δ was.
"Domination" also finally realized something unusual.
The wall was not pierced by the electric arc; it seemed to touch the air itself, leaving no trace, and so did the figure of Rose, who entered the wall and came out through the other side.
Even stranger, the perception of Rose’s Spiritual Energy also disappeared.
She was right before their eyes, yet it was as if she had vanished from the world.
δ did not miss this fleeting opportunity, heading straight for Rose’s figure as she passed by. This time, the blade-like energy locked onto "Domination’s" wrist at the moment of her astonishment, then viciously tore it off.
δ snatched Jasmine’s object, and it instantly merged into her body.
"δ—!"
"Domination" screamed, but did not set up a stance for a fight to the death with her opponent, because at that moment, every cell in her body was sending a warning; the Ceremony magic circle beneath her feet came alive, the spraying tentacles entwining her and Richard, rapidly pulling them into the circle.
Her eyes closed swiftly, and the ground returned to its previous state.
δ was also startled by this sudden turn of events.
Just then, her consciousness suddenly lapsed. The lapse was brief, as if it lasted only the blink of an eye. After it ended, everything in the room had changed.
The thunder stopped.
Rose and Jasmine were lying side by side quietly on the ground, and at the center of the Ceremony circle, there was an abyssal hole.
The Devil had arrived.
δ frantically checked Jasmine’s breathing, and upon confirming she was still alive, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
What followed was a face full of confusion.
"Why were you able to touch them?" δ asked first.
Everything it and Jasmine had done was for that moment just before, when they had barged in here, and she had explained her true ability to δ. At this point, both she and Rose should have been out of this world.
Their attacks could not be projected into reality, nor could they be affected by it.
This was Jasmine’s gamble.
Since they could not defy the control of the concept weaponry’s system, they could only temporarily exile themselves from this world, hoping δ could take advantage of that moment to seize the object controlling them.
But now, two people who were supposed to be out of this world had been knocked out by the Devil.
Even more unbelievably, the Devil himself also wore a puzzled expression, "Yeah, why could I touch them?"
Song Lan repeated the question δ had raised.
He had knocked out the two of them during the process of his ability’s activation, which left him standing there dumbfounded for a while before he remembered to completely destroy the Ceremony formation.
Logically, his hands should have passed right through their bodies during the activation of his power.
Of course, in δ’s eyes, the Devil was not to be trusted. She took all this as Song Lan pretending to be foolish in front of her. After all, he had always been such a sinister and crafty person, always fooling Jasmine around.
However...
It now had to rely on the Devil’s power.
By itself, it was impossible to help Jasmine break free from the curse of the conceptual weaponry.
δ took the initiative to hand over the device it had snatched from "Dominate" to Song Lan. "This is the device used by the Consortium to control Jasmine. I couldn’t grab the other device. You need to figure out how to remove the programming controlling her thoughts... You promised me before, I can make a request within your power."
There is such a thing as a free lunch?
Song Lan was surprised.
Even if δ hadn’t mentioned it, he had to figure out how to remove the control system of the conceptual weaponry from Jasmine and Rose. Now they had picked up a huge advantage. From this point on, the relationship between the Six Stars rescuers and the Iris Consortium was thoroughly strained.
And now, he could also repay a favor he owed.
"I can."
Song Lan took the delicate device, striving to suppress the surging emotions in his heart, "Leave it to me. We often shelter some Runaways, so we have quite a bit of experience in this area."
"I’m not asking you to take them in. You better not get any ideas about Jasmine!"
δ warned the other party, sensing the whiff of scheming at this moment.
Even though it knew full well that it held no sway over the Devil.
On one side was the Devil, and on the other, a consciousness collective.
It felt that there might not be many good people left around itself.
"Let’s head back to the hospital. You’ve made such a big commotion here, people from the Consortium will be here soon."
..........................
Jasmine felt that this might be the longest sleep she had ever had.
Although she was aware that she was sleeping and her thoughts became clearer and clearer, darkness still enveloped her sight.
But gradually, she heard faint noises in the darkness.
Then, it seemed as if someone lifted her head and inserted something into the data connector at the back of her neck.
Her consciousness once again plunged into a void of emptiness, and her last memory was of being in the underground labyrinth where she seemed to have finally touched Rose, triggering her ability.
Did δ win?
Where and when was she now?
After some time, she finally had the strength to open her eyes. The smell that filled her nose was the familiar scent of the hospital.
When she saw the shadow on the ceiling that seemed to make faces at her, she finally revealed a shallow smile.
It looked like δ hadn’t let her down.
Though she knew that as a Six Stars rescuer, trusting a criminal who had once endeavored to destroy the United Government was a ludicrous act.
But soon, she noticed Song Lan not far away.
"Mr. Lucky?"
She didn’t know why the chef would be in her room and was flooded with countless thoughts. Did δ seek his help while she was unconscious?
And what about her sister now?
"No need to worry, Rose is still sleeping. We’re trying to remove the control program from her system."
Remove the control program?
Jasmine was somewhat bewildered—was this something that a chef should say?
"Who exactly are you?"
"There’s no point in continuing to hide it now."
Song Lan straightened his collar, and as he spoke, the vulture flapped its wings and returned to his shoulder.
The man and bird together made an odd picture in front of Jasmine.
"Let me reintroduce myself, Lady Jasmine."
Seeing things had come to this head, Song Lan could only reveal his true identity, "My name is Rob Lucci, I’m a secret agent of Military Intelligence Section Seven CP0."
