Chapter 661: Chapter 661: _1
This evening, Yeying was fully prepared, having friends lie in wait outside Richard Gervis’s study much earlier, ready to document every single detail as soon as she gave the order.
But this time, they grasped at air.
Rose did not arrive as expected.
Even Richard Gervis himself was nowhere to be found; it was only when she inquired about the exotic beasts in the courtyard that she finally learned they had last seen Rose half an hour earlier, following behind Colin Capello’s personal maid with a complex expression.
She immediately reported this information to Song Lan and Lu Xiang.
"Colin Capello’s personal maid? Why would she come looking for Rose?"
Lu Xiang frowned, a bad premonition welled up in his heart. With the Capello Family and the Gilvez Family at such fierce odds, they definitely had no reason to meet at a time like this.
Unless there was something that could momentarily make them set aside familial interests and the ongoing consortium infighting.
The last message from the exotic animals was that Rose followed Colin’s maid into the Consortium’s wax museum.
The wax museum was the brainchild of the previous Consortium leader, who had been eager to collect various wax figures, sparing no expense to leave this permanent mark of his own within the castle.
Beyond that, the animals also witnessed Jasmine sneaking in shortly after Rose entered the wax museum.
"There must be something fishy going on here."
Song Lan echoed in agreement.
This sudden complication forced them to abandon their original plan, deciding to head immediately to the Consortium’s wax museum, where they hastily crafted dummies out of pillows and bedding, creating the impression that they were already in bed asleep.
It was a trick Lu Xiang had learned from prison inmates, those who had tried to escape often duped the guards with such methods during their patrols.
Yeying too was assigned an important task; in order to ensure that the duty doctor wouldn’t burst in and discover the dummies in bed, she needed to stand guard over the infirmary, knocking out and disposing of anyone who dared to intrude into the grass below.
Once everything was ready, the two hurried off to the wax museum.
Even though they acted immediately, the process was anything but smooth.
Since the former family head’s retirement, the wax museum had been out of commission, seldom visited by anyone aside from the staff responsible for cleaning and maintaining the wax figures—especially not late at night.
Inside, every wax figure was a master’s work, each so lifelike that as soon as he entered, Song Lan felt as though countless eyes were watching him.
As expected, they found neither the voices of Rose, the maid, nor Richard within the wax museum.
The vast exhibition hall was eerily silent, devoid of any sound; yet, the animals were certain that Rose and the others had not reappeared since entering the museum.
"There’s a secret passageway here."
Lu Xiang quickly concluded; this was undoubtedly the perfect place to conceal one, "This time we can only rely on you to think of a way."
To find the entrance to a hidden tunnel in such a short time, they could only count on Song Lan’s ever-reliable Spiritual Energy. Therefore, she had to emphasize that Song Lan was an essential commodity for home travel or violent deeds, even in an entirely unfamiliar environment. He could save you from most troubles.
...............
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
After passing through a long, dark corridor, Rose finally saw a room with light.
The Iris Consortium had too many secrets unknown to others; living in the castle for so long, she never knew that beneath the wax museum lay such a place.
Upon entering, Richard Gervis was already waiting inside.
"Well? You must have just learned about the grand underground labyrinth hidden beneath the castle."
Today’s Richard was strikingly different from usual; clad in a black robe with his head shrouded under the robe’s hood, he looked more like a black wizard preoccupied with cult rituals than the Consortium’s leader.
Even more abnormal was the chamber’s floor.
The floor bore a formation sketched with an unknown pigment, resembling those found in a fantasy-themed game, its bright red outline emitting a sinister glow.
"My uncle spent nearly a decade completing this place. Its original purpose was to allow him to continue to control the Iris Consortium in secret after his abdication."
And now, the former Consortium leader was here.
He sat proudly on the throne built for him, looking down arrogantly at every person who came here—this was how he looked when he died.
Even though his flesh had long since decayed away, every inch of his skin turned to bone, he still maintained the lofty demeanor of an aristocrat. The hollow caves of his eyeless sockets faced all, silently witnessing everything about to unfold here.
In the family tree of the Gilvez Family, the former leader’s ending was a death in a plane crash, a terrible accident.
He and his Personal Guard vanished forever on a private jet while on vacation. Their wrecked jet and some mutilated bodies were later salvaged from the sea.
"What... are we doing here?"
Rose asked uneasily, her right hand involuntarily gripping the Knight’s sword at her waist. Yet even this did little to provide her with any sense of security.
"To have you open your heart to me, Rose. All of this is for you."
Richard’s answer sent chills down her spine as he spread his arms toward Rose and said, "Now, you must have made your decision to confess to me, right? Tell me, what exactly did your sister say to you in the hospital?"
"She..."
With her eyes vacant, Rose obediently walked towards Richard.
Since childhood, absolute loyalty to the Gilvez Family had been deeply ingrained in her brain.
She could imagine Richard’s reaction after learning the truth, but maybe...
Jasmine was mistaken.
Or perhaps he would still honor the agreement, forgiving their suspicion?
Such a thought flickered through her mind.
The distance between them was closing, as if with just one more step forward, Rose could be enveloped in Richard’s embrace.
However, this time, what approached Richard before Rose did was a deep blue arc of electricity.
Even the crimson light bursting from the ritual array was half a beat slower than the thunder, and by the time the sound of the electric current reached Richard’s ears, Rose had already vanished without a trace, unbound by the beams of the array, leaving cracks in the physical barrier of light.
Richard spun around, his vision whirling, as a head took a dozen turns in the air before landing in the corner of the room.
Inky mucus splattered everywhere, evaporating swiftly upon contact with the electric arc.
This was the outcome of the discussion she had had with Jasmine in the hospital room.
The real Richard Gilvez would never associate with the Capello Family, much less summon her to such a place late at night.
As it turned out, Jasmine’s concerns were justified.
The one she served was no longer the real Richard, but a puppet long since replaced by Worms, as evidenced by the ink spewing incessantly from its severed neck.
The thunder did not cease.
Seeing this, the maid’s eyes widened with surprise, the chaotic and disordered roar echoing in her ears; her fleshly eyes, let alone the Spiritual Energy she had already spread out, could not keep up with Rose’s speed—although clearly in the room, her velocity seemed as if she had disappeared into thin air.
"Worthy of the Guardian the Consortium yearns for, you are far mightier than any Six Stars rescuer I’ve encountered before."
Rose did not speak.
The maid heard the sound of electricity slicing through the air, but her sight and Spiritual Energy still failed to capture Rose’s figure. All she could do was snatch the head that flew into the air, just like Richard’s, with Shadow in the brief moment her gaze diverted from its original trajectory.
The head never made it back to its original place.
More and more cuts appeared, as she clearly saw the deep blue energy flowing out from her own body. It felt as if the energy, capable of Destruction, surged within her, and in the blink of an eye, the electric arc ripped her body into scattered fragments.
Having completely discarded its human shell, the dark energy within raged and surged.
All of a sudden, Rose seemed to see something beyond Spiritual Energy.
The impurities made the energy less pure; whispers from nowhere flooded her brain almost instantaneously.
The intense psychic assault paused her actions for half a second, and the black energy mass seized the opportunity. Its body sprouted countless tentacles, reassembling the scattered human parts back together.
The maid returned before Rose in a bizarre and horrifying posture, her face still beaming with a spine-chilling smile.
Rose’s right hand, unfaltering, pressed against the maid’s chest.
In an instant, deep blue patterns surged on her silver white light armor.
The devastating intensity of the Spiritual Energy finally caused a change in the maid’s expression. She seemed to want to sidestep, but the energy gushing forth from the palm had already engulfed her.
The deep blue waves of Spiritual Energy did not stop there; like a beam of light, they burst through the door, annihilating everything in their path. And when they dissipated, all that lay before Rose was a chasm leading to an unknown destination—the end of which was beyond her range of sight, with the burst of light breaking through the surface and making the whole second zone seem like it skipped the night and returned to daylight.
Rose began to breathe heavily.
Jasmine had also told her many things, making her realize that facing such an adversary, she couldn’t afford to hold back.
The intense consumption of Spiritual Energy left her looking pale, but fortunately, both the maid and the Shadow lurking within her body had disappeared under the purge of the light beam.
Then, she heard footsteps drawing nearer from afar.
A familiar figure in a white lab coat was desperately running her way.
But before she saw the person behind the footsteps, another voice sounded through the air.
It was elusive, yet omnipresent.
"I am very satisfied with your performance, and it wasn’t in vain that we invested so much effort in you," the voice deliberately paused, "Unfortunately, to destroy me, you would need to unleash a Spiritual Energy storm."
