Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Old Six’s Self-Cultivation_1

To avoid being discovered by the Ability User while Elmon wanders around the mayor’s mansion, Song Lan felt it necessary to set some ground rules with him beforehand.

"You have only one task - find the mayor’s guardhouse and hide inside. Then, constantly relay the ongoing activities in the mansion to me through surveillance footage."

How to minimize the chance of being discovered?

This question has already been answered by countless predecessors with their valuable experience. The answer is to become an ’Old Six’.

Don’t overlook this identity.

A successful Old Six not only needs surpassing patience but also a deep understanding of their surroundings.

Environmental camouflage, blind spots, and even a smattering of psychology are needed.

Even if it sounds challenging, once you succeed, the benefits are enormous. Old Six who do not even have the ability to become invisible can blend so seamlessly with their surroundings that one can’t find them even when walking right past them. So how could an Ability User discover Elmon who has the ability to become invisible?

Even if the Ability User, who might be hiding inside the mayor’s house, can sense Elmon, he wouldn’t think that at a point when everyone’s heading home from work, there’s still an ’Old Six’ hiding inside the mayor’s guardhouse.

That’s exploiting the opponent’s psychology.

"I understand."

Although Elmon didn’t grasp the concept of Old Six, he still nodded.

Following the automated hamburger vending machine incident, it seemed like he had earned a new identity. His intuition tells him that if he stays under his master’s tutelage, he might become a master of all professions someday.

"What about you, master?"

"I’ll breakthrough directly."

Song Lan decided to take full advantage of psychology. If opponents can’t think about an Old Six hiding in the guardhouse, they would find it even harder to imagine someone daring enough to stay in the same room as the mayor. However, to achieve this plan, he still needed Elmon’s long-distance assistance.

His first step was to identify the surveillance blind spots in the mayor’s house.

Otherwise, if he finds what he thinks to be a great hiding spot just to realize it’s completely exposed to the surveillance system, he would look like a clown.

"If you understand, let’s begin."

............

A short while later, inside the mayor’s house.

Having finished an entire day of meetings, Lyon Seabot came home, walked into the living room, and collapsed onto the sofa, utterly exhausted.

The month leading up to the elections is always the busiest time. There’s scrutiny work, networking, and traveling to different areas in the 17th district for speeches, making promises to the citizens. The upcoming days look set to continue this way.

His recent re-entry into the election race has made him evaluate his work over these years.

Before taking office, he promised the citizens of improving the employment rate but didn’t achieve success. The series of solutions he proposed were obstructed at every turn— they were unable to progress. The root of all problems was the Foster family.

The businessmen of the 17th district, with the Foster family as their backing, adopted a showy support but real indifference towards his employment reform.

This was the state of the 17th district.

They’d prefer to tear up or burn money rather than improve their employees’ treatment. From the capitalists’ perspective, they’ve been generous enough. They acknowledge that it was out of respect for him being mayor that they hadn’t used robots or bionic technology, without which they wouldn’t have provided any jobs for the jobless of the 17th district.

Therefore, in their eyes, the citizens of the 17th district ought to be grateful.

The Foster family, on the other hand, was another worry for Lyon Seabot.

He initially reached his position with the aid of the Foster family. But that made him their puppet — his proposals, as a mayor, needed approval from a prosecutor to implement.

Fortunately, things have recently taken a turn.

Angel Foster is dead.

The downfall of the Chai Ke Group gave the citizens of the 17th district hope of driving the criminals out. Although he had nothing to do with either incident, he, as a mayor, indirectly benefited from it.

In his initial election speech, he did emphasize a crackdown on crime in the 17th district and decrease the crime rate within the next few years.

According to his secretary, his recent approval rating has rebounded significantly. If the trend continues, the prospects for re-election seem very promising.

Yes, re-election.

That is the focus of his upcoming work.

Lyon Seabot composed himself, looking around, the familiar living room felt empty.

Soon after, he became perplexed as to why he came straight to the living room after arriving home.

Did he forget something important?

"Knock, knock, knock"

The knocking broke Lyon’s train of thought.

The secretary came in with a tray, placing three glasses of lemon water in front of him.

Nearly the same moment he saw the lemon water, he felt parched. Lyon had never felt this thirsty before. He felt like a wanderer who’s been walking in the desert for three days and nights, finally finding a water source. Drinking water was his only thought.

In the blink of an eye, he’s gulped down the three glasses of water.

The thirsty feeling vanished, and his dazed eyes regained clarity. Having quenched his thirst, he decided to focus on the most important work at hand.

Seeing this, the secretary smiled and said, "High Prosecutor Dominas has arrived."

"Let him come over."

Yes, this is currently the most important work.

Dominas has deep ties with the Foster family. Building a good relationship with the Inspection Department would ensure a risk-free re-election.

A moment later, a slickly groomed man walked into the room.

"Mayor Lyon."

After some simple pleasantries, Dominas sat next to him.

His presence in the private reception room at this hour was enough to demonstrate his respect for the new High Prosecutor. Dominas was indeed a seasoned player. He launched right into the business at hand, "The Foster family would be glad to see a person with ideas and capabilities like you sustain this position. This is a fortunate thing for the people of the 17th district as well as the United Government."

"Too kind."

Although he responded humbly, Lyon felt relieved in his heart, "I heard you recently took over the work of the former High Prosecutor, have you encountered any difficulties?"

"I have indeed encountered some recently."

Dominas said, "Following Chai Ke’s death, the criminals in the 17th district have split into four forces. They’re plotting to seize Chai Ke’s territory. I believe we mustn’t let them rise from the ashes. Otherwise, all our prior efforts will have been in vain."

"What is your plan?"

"Please forgive my forthrightness, but the work efficiency of the Law Enforcers is too low. I hope the Inspection Department can take over full authority in the following period. For this, I may need a document allowing necessary mobilization of Law Enforcers."

With these words, Dominas took out a prepared document, "Please, have a look."
