Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Special Commission_1
Song Lan declined Ivan’s offer, as he wanted to stay sober before returning home.
Ivan’s disappointment was etched on his face. The Water of Life was his prized possession, representing the highest degree of friendship he could offer.
Unexpectedly, after rejecting the Water of Life, Song Lan ordered a glass of orange juice.
Isn’t that akin to deliberately sitting at the kid’s table at a banquet?
However, since the guest requested, as a bartender, Ivan could only serve a glass of orange juice, while strongly resisting the urge to add some Water of Life to it for taste.
After a glass of orange juice, the negotiation in Lu Xiang’s booth concluded. Lu Xiang retrieved a folder from Ophir, acknowledged the bartender before saying to Song Lan, "I’ve acquired what I wanted, but there were some unexpected events during the negotiation. They made a request."
"A request?"
"Ophir hopes that we can provide them with a professional psychologist for a client who finds it inconvenient to go to a hospital and requires private counselling."
Generally, Lu Xiang would resolve matters pertaining to paid intelligence with money.
An established price, transaction of corresponding goods, and no one owes anyone anything after leaving the door.
She didn’t like owing favors, especially to information traders. In this pub, all the information traders were savvy individuals who would try to exploit the maximum value of a favor.
However, this time, Ophir made a specific request. They could provide the intelligence, but the Law Enforcers department must find a trustworthy psychologist to address their client’s problem by eight o’clock the following morning.
’Trustworthy’ doesn’t just pertain to being professionally skilled but must also be someone who can keep secrets.
After contemplation, Lu Xiang realized that in District Seventeen, there would only be one person she could fully trust - Song Lan. Fortuitously, Song Lan’s new department happened to employ an expert in psychology counseling, "Tomorrow morning, bring them to the Wanderer Pub. Ophir will be expecting you. It’s just a simple consultation. Don’t worry about safety. Ophir will assign bodyguards to accompany you."
"Okay."
With Lu Xiang having said this much, Song Lan naturally couldn’t refuse.
He immediately sent a message to Roger and Valerian to meet him at the entrance of the Wanderer Pub at eight o’clock the next morning.
On the way back to Lu Xiang’s hover car, the sleepiness induced by the vodka made him long to lie down and sleep comfortably. Even the glass of orange juice he drank later didn’t completely suppress the feeling of intoxication.
He did not think deeply about the assignment from the intelligence trader. Just as Lu Xiang trusted him, Song Lan also believed in Lu Xiang’s judgement.
If it is a regular psychology consultation, and Ophir even arranges bodyguards for their protection, then there shouldn’t be any issues.
Of course, if something unexpected occurs during that time and an unknown enemy appears...
...I, Song Lan, can only advise you to think carefully before you act.
Perhaps due to the influence of alcohol, he felt like his mind was becoming more radical.
This isn’t a good sign.
No wonder the security incidents related to alcohol abuse in District Seventeen occur daily. Even those who pursue peace are somewhat affected.
After returning home, Song Lan washed up in a daze and headed straight for his bed as soon as he was done.
He couldn’t remember how he fell asleep. His sleep was unusually deep, and when he opened his eyes next, the alarm next to his pillow was clamoring, and the sky outside the window was completely bright.
7:03 am, in the morning.
Time to get up and work.
After washing up and hastily eating a bit, Song Lan arrived at the pub entrance 45 minutes later, where Roger and Valerian had arrived earlier than him.
As soon as she saw Song Lan, Valerian took out her tablet:
"Chief Song, I’ve put up a ’closed for the day’ sign at the door before I left the precinct."
"You don’t have to worry about them not finding us."
Song Lan had to admit, Valerian was indeed an elite from the Crime Analysis Department. She was thorough in her considerations. However...
Doesn’t posting a ’closed for the day’ sign on the office door sound weird?
Seeing there were only about ten minutes left to the appointed time with Ophir, Song Lan hastily parked his MK-Ⅱ on the side of the road.
Compared to its bustling night atmosphere, the Wanderer Pub during the day was no different from a common old residential building. The Mohican hanging around the pub entrance was nowhere to be seen. Testing the front door of the pub, he found it locked. Without a choice, he led the two around a large circle to the alley behind the pub.
There was indeed someone waiting for them in the alley. Even from ten meters away, Song Lan could feel the powerful aura emanating from this person.
A figure standing over two meters tall, with a body of bronze skin, bulging muscles stretching his body-hugging shirt taut. This was clearly a figure of a top-tier fighter who could take on ten people alone.
"T, the former underground boxing champion, who once held a record of 30 consecutive victories. I wouldn’t have imagined that I could meet him here."
Roger’s eyes lit up, and his voice carried excitement. Even if he rushed up the next moment to ask for an autograph, Song Lan wouldn’t be surprised.
"You’re familiar with underground boxing matches?"
"I’m a fan. Whenever I have time, I’ll go watch all the competitions in person... So, he’s the bodyguard assigned by Ophir to protect us?"
"He should be."
Song Lan approached the bulky man and introduced himself, "I’m Song Lan, the Chief of the Psychology Consultation Department of the Law Enforcers, your boss should have mentioned me."
In response to Song Lan’s self-introduction, the burly man merely nodded his head, and said, "Let’s go."
Barely a word exchanged, serious attitude, typical signs of a master I suppose!
Ignoring his greeting, Song Lan quietly grumbled in his heart.
But he understood the importance of separating work from personal feelings. The three of them followed T into the pub through the back door, then they descended into the underground parking lot through a hidden entrance, where a luxurious hover car appeared to have been waiting for them for a while.
This hover car looked even more upscale than Lu Xiang’s!
In District Seventeen, few people could afford to own a car, let alone a hover car. It’s said that numerous complex procedures are required before a hover car can hit the road. Without a certain background, even buying a hover car does not guarantee that it would be legally allowed on the streets.
Strictly speaking, Lu Xiang’s hover car is the public property of the Law Enforcers Department. She only obtained temporary usage rights after becoming a supervisor.
A secretary in a black dress suit with blonde hair and blue eyes welcomed them.
"Please get in the car."
Her voice sounded cold. Although she was using polite language, her gaze was almost harshly scrutinizing them.
This woman works for the government.
Such a thought popped into Song Lan’s mind instantly.
After they got seated, the automatic doors of the hover car slowly closed.
"The intermediary should have informed you that we do not wish for this matter to become known."
"Understood."
Song Lan calmly replied, "There are probably few things in this world that are tighter-lipped than we are."
"We hope so."
Saying this, the secretary handed a file to the Song Lan’s group. Upon seeing the name on the cover of the file, Song Lan’s eyes widened in surprise.
Lyon Seabot.
Isn’t that the name of the Mayor?
