Chapter 544: Chapter 544: Another World_1
Song Lan had not expected that the president of the top academy within the United Government’s Psychic research institution would make a comment akin to those of religious followers, yet he seemed utterly convinced of the theory he had proposed.
But upon further thought, Song Lan realized that both Spiritual Energy and spiritual power were inherently steeped in idealist hues.
They were difficult to explain with rigorous scientific theory. To this day, though the Psychic research institutions had produced countless outstanding researchers, no one knew exactly how Psychic Abilities originated. Nor could they understand why certain individuals were endowed with talents beyond those of ordinary people, only to attribute these abilities to "gifts of fate."
The president continued to share the theory he had deduced through research, "I have consulted many pre-war documents. Before the onset of the third world war, myths and legends with their own unique styles were widespread around the globe, and in many areas, religion was prevalent. In some countries, up to two-thirds of the population adhered to religious beliefs."
All of the above information was obtained through special channels provided by the Ragus Foundation.
Since the establishment of the United Government, there had been those who wished to restore the glory of religion and faith, but under the new order, religion was no longer needed.
The belief systems and the corporate structure had a fundamental conflict of interest. They wanted their employees to believe in the advanced and superior corporate ideology. After repackaging faith, it was silently integrated into people’s lives in a new form, named "Corporate Supremacy."
With aggressive promotion of "Corporate Supremacy," they declared that one’s beliefs could bring the most substantial returns.
Those who embraced this ideology no longer needed to place their faith in intangible entities, as the company would provide them with the most direct and reliable rewards.
Fame, power, wealth.
They believed these tangible rewards were what every person ought to pursue.
Simultaneously with their propaganda, the corporations spared no effort eradicating any trace religion had left in the world by collecting theological books that had survived the third war and making them disappear from people’s lives.
The president did not subscribe to Corporate Supremacy.
The vulgar pursuits of fame, power, and wealth were not his goal. From the moment he began his research in Psychic Abilities, he had set for himself a far greater objective.
"After reviewing many mythological stories, I suddenly had a new idea,"
the president said. "In the early days, people used myths to describe ’Deities’ with special powers – creating fires, causing tsunamis, controlling lightning. It reflected mankind’s early awe of nature, but if we re-examine these tales now, many of the mythological figures’ feats can be achieved by Psychics."
In fact, if a Five Stars rescuer from today were to return to the technologically barren era of a few hundred or thousand years ago, their abilities might very well be regarded as divine by the people of that time.
In an environment saturated with religious beliefs, it was easy for people to merge those with extraordinary talents into their faith narratives, creating "mythological characters" that helped them spread their beliefs.
"I don’t know who once described Psychic Abilities as gifts of fate. This notion has existed since the day I became a researcher,"
the president paused for a moment and said, "It’s a theory without a scientific basis. When researchers attribute things they cannot explain to fate, it means they have given up on deeper investigation internally. Yet, such theories have influenced almost all researchers, who have stopped trying to explain the origin of Psychic Abilities."
"But you don’t believe in this theory?"
Song Lan followed up with a question.
Since arriving in their room, the president had been delivering an unending lecture. Song Lan did not know if this was because the president had happened upon a topic of interest or if it was arranged by the Ragus Foundation.
However, as an excellent communicator, Song Lan actively played the role of supporter, ensuring that the president never faced an awkward silence whenever he paused.
This was also why the conversation could continue uninterrupted.
This time, however, the president did not follow the usual pattern. "I believe it’s the knowledge my teacher imparted to me, but I think our research should not stop there," he said.
This conclusion, seemingly lacking in scientific spirit, perhaps hid deeper messages.
"Over the years, I’ve been studying another issue which has led me to a new question—what is fate?"
Life is filled with ups and downs, and people often attribute the turmoil and unexpected events they can’t explain through life experience to the caprice of fate.
But as his research progressed, he developed a strange sensation.
Fate was never elusive; on the contrary, it was likely designed from the start, with a set trajectory that, regardless of changes in the process, would always reach its intended conclusion.
A concept of predestination had been proposed by many even earlier. They believed that human life was a process of constantly resisting fate, yet ultimately conforming to the course it had mapped out.
All this he had discovered through channels provided by the Foundation and decades of research exploration.
He had never shared his findings with anyone else.
Even for current researchers of Psychic Abilities, the theory of Ascension was still too advanced.
This concerned the greatest challenge faced by researchers—human energy is limited, and thus, most researchers were not Psychics themselves. They could only generalize based on reactions and behaviors of their subjects, lacking the ability to understand the mysteries more directly through personal experience.
Thus, they found it difficult to comprehend Consciousness Entities that could exist beyond the physical body, let alone perceive the hidden unknown world above it.
This marked the essential difference between him and those researchers.
As the president of the Purple Wisteria Academy, his most important research subject was not someone else, but himself.
So far, most of the theories he proposed had been validated through his own experiences.
Yet even the president did not understand why he suddenly felt impelled to share these insights today with Song Lan and Lu Xiang, who appeared, at least on the surface, to be outsiders completely unrelated to Psychic Abilities.
But perhaps it was precisely their status as outsiders that allowed them to return to the most fundamental discussions.
"Do you believe that the world after Ascension exists?"
the president asked the two, posing a question that had yet to be validated, "In my view, what we call fate is the projection of a higher will. Only when we see the true face of that world can we understand the true nature of fate."
