Chapter 488: Chapter 488: Remembering the Run Under the Blazing Sun_1

A philosopher who preferred to remain anonymous once said, "I remember the running beneath the setting Sun, that was the youth we lost."

On this quiet afternoon, Song Lan had a deeper understanding of this sentence.

Especially the words "we lost."

They were perhaps not meant to create a beautiful notion, but might just be an apt description of the state of people after running—that’s him now, sitting on the stairs below his apartment, panting as if he was about to pass away at any moment.

Song Lan’s mind was foggy, his vision darkening, he didn’t know why people chose to run when the Sun was at its hottest, but the silver lining was that it was winter. If it had been summer, he was certain his old life would have been forfeited right here.

In his daze, Lu Xiang came downstairs with a wet towel to wipe Song Lan’s sweat and handed him a bottle of sports drink to replenish his energy.

Her eyes were full of concern.

She had known that Song Lan’s physical stamina wasn’t great, but she had not expected it to be this bad. The distance from the Law Enforcers department back home wasn’t long—it was almost the same as their daily school runs in the past. She had only broken a sweat and felt not the slightest bit tired, in fact, she was brimming with energy.

As for Giant Mountain, he hadn’t sweated a drop.

Because Song Lan had nearly collapsed several times during the run, Giant Mountain had to slow down to keep pace with Song Lan. For him, this was not even considered a basic workout.

"Running is one of the best exercises one can do for oneself, a good start is half the success, just keep at it, and all diseases will stay away from you."

Giant Mountain turned around, backlit by the Sun, giving a thumbs up, his white teeth shining in the halo of light.

Today, Song Lan’s daily training had ended, and it was time for him to embark on his own training journey!

With a hearty laugh, this giant over four meters tall ran towards the distance under the astonished gazes of passersby, his demonic laughter echoing in their ears long after he had disappeared.

"Seriously, Old Lu."

Song Lan stared in the direction Giant Mountain had vanished for a long time and couldn’t help but ask, "What exactly is he here for?"

He was certain that this Six Stars rescuer’s visit to the Law Enforcers department wasn’t to drag him out for exercise; at least, that wasn’t the initial purpose.

Then the running had interrupted everything, and it seemed even Giant Mountain himself had forgotten his original mission.

After pondering for a moment, Lu Xiang also shook her head in confusion.

Besides promoting numerous benefits of exercising, Giant Mountain hadn’t provided them with any other useful information.

But that was not something she needed to worry about anymore. "Let’s go back," she said.

Supporting Song Lan by his shoulder, she started to seriously consider a daily running plan for Song Lan.

Running used to be a part of her life because once on the battlefield, long marches were the norm, and the distance traveled in missions was not as easy as running back home from the department. In some extreme cases, they would even have to run two or three cities on foot to break through, and falling behind could mean coming under enemy fire.

When they were still in school, apart from the regular school-organized runs, she would train for an extra hour and a half every night. Thus, she knew exactly how to relax her body and mind after a tiring day.

After helping Song Lan onto the couch, she went into the bathroom, filled the bathtub with warm water, and after some thought, finally decided to follow the suggestion from "A Love Tip Every Day II," scattering some flower petals on the water surface. She lit a scented candle, turning off the lights, allowing the candlelight to become the only source of illumination.

The romantic atmosphere spread throughout the bathroom, accentuated by the fragrance.

Only after making sure everything was set, did she change out of her work clothes into a bathrobe, tossed her dirty clothes into the washing machine, and after estimating that Song Lan had rested for more than half an hour, she poked her head out from the bathroom.

"The bath is ready, you can take a soak now."

"I’ll go in a bit."

Song Lan was lying on the couch, not even wishing to open his eyes.

He was like a salted fish about to be dried out, the intense exercise threatening his comfy and happy environment, what he needed most now was to lie down, and perhaps sleep for a while.

Fatigue seemed to send his consciousness adrift into the distance, and amidst his trance, he thought he heard faint footsteps.

A gentle fragrance lingered at the tip of his nose, followed by something soft draping over his cheek, which tickled him slightly.

"Sleep after you’ve had your bath."

Soon after, Lu Xiang’s whisper reached his ears.

Song Lan suddenly opened his eyes to find Lu Xiang kneeling beside the couch, whispering the previous sentence close to his ear, her long hair brushing against his cheek.

The bathrobe outlined the exquisite shape of Lu Xiang’s figure, and perhaps due to the steam, her originally fair skin flushed with a hint of red.

Lu Xiang blinked at him, "It seems like you can’t get up, do you need my help?"

I can get up on my own.

The words that almost left his lips were forcibly swallowed back. He coughed lightly, his voice weak without needing to feign, "Too tired, can’t move."

"Then, let me help you up."

......

As Song Lan decided to accept Lu Xiang’s careful care, Grey had already begun another ascetic practice in his life.

The long run to the point of sheer exhaustion awakened the long-lost passion in Grey’s heart, making him urgently want to run two laps around the city.

His phone’s ringtone interrupted him.

The caller ID displayed Jasmine’s name.

"Hello? You’ve seen them, haven’t you?"

As soon as the call connected, Jasmine asked immediately. She had informed him about Lu Xiang and Song Lan the moment Grey reached the Seventeenth District.

As his longstanding teammate, she knew Grey all too well.

If no one kept an eye on him, who knows what astonishing actions he might undertake. From her interactions with Song Lan in the Seventh District, it was clear that although he wasn’t much help in combat, he had good ideas, and his suggestions were worth considering.

"I’ve met them, they’re both exceptional young people."

Grey did not stint on his high praise for Song Lan and Lu Xiang, unlike those office workers who stubbornly maintain the status quo, at least they were willing to make changes.

Such is life, a small change can often bring about unexpected results.

"We just jogged from the department to their apartment, I haven’t felt so satisfied in a long time!"

Upon hearing this, Jasmine’s vision went dark.

Based on her experience, if Grey was feeling satisfied, it meant that something had gone wrong somewhere. She asked seriously, "How well have you investigated Angle Saffire?"

After she posed the question, the other end of the phone fell into a brief silence.

Jasmine sighed and withdrew the topic from her own ears.

Unsurprisingly, a few seconds later, Grey’s incredulous roar came through the phone—"Angle! I actually forgot about him! But don’t worry, I will visit the Law Enforcers’ department again tomorrow!"

"Don’t forget again."

Jasmine resignedly sighed. Their current situation was not favorable, and although she wanted to go and support her teammate, a dark figure cast a reflection on the wall of the inn during this phone call, its face wearing a mischievously wicked smile.
