Chapter 464: 464 Chapter: Jasmine_1

Early the next morning, the two arrived at the hospital as agreed and borrowed a wheelchair from the nurses.

In response to the Ragus Foundation’s call, the academy allowed students to visit the exhibition hall today. There were many students on campus, but only a few were seen at the exhibition hall.

Most students took advantage of this rare opportunity to go out and gathered together, discussing the upcoming Morning Star Cup.

For them, nothing was more important than getting a good ranking in the competition.

The Ragus Foundation had been preparing for this exhibition for a long time. They created images and entries for most of the Void creatures they had recently investigated. It seemed they had also discovered the website maintained by Father Bruno, with most of the entry content directly excerpted from the internet.

Most of those who came to the exhibition were teachers or emissaries from important departments.

Many of them knew Hanna, and they flocked to her the moment they saw her, inquiring about her well-being. As a newly-promoted three-star rescuer, Lu Xiang also became a prime target for conversations, while the celebrated detective Song Lan was left out in the cold.

Looking at the crowd gathered in a circle ahead, Song Lan found it outrageous; he now seriously doubted the purpose of these people attending the exhibition.

The three of them had been walking side by side, with Lu Xiang pushing Hanna’s wheelchair and Song Lan walking beside Lu Xiang, but now, he had been pushed tens of meters away by the continually advancing crowd.

An exhibition turned into a fan meetup thanks to these people’s arrival.

"I heard you’re a detective?"

It had been nearly ten minutes since he arrived at the exhibition when Song Lan was addressed by a stranger for the first time. The person speaking to him was a woman in her early thirties, wearing an open lab coat that revealed the nano body-hugging battle suit underneath.

Song Lan had seen this type of battle suit online quite a few times. It was powerful and used not only by the United Government’s combat troops but also in many other circumstances.

The woman was tall, with blue-purple gradient hair that fell to her chest. She wore glasses that looked very much like combat meters on her nose, and her whole outfit exuded a sense of high technology.

Song Lan immediately realized that the woman before him was definitely a tough character.

Her striking hair color, unique style of dress, and unusual eye color—all of her features fit the definition of a tough character in Song Lan’s mind.

"Not exactly a detective, I just love to research," said Song Lan humbly.

The woman smiled slightly, "Well then, what’s your take on what’s recently happened?"

"Which incident are you referring to?"

"The alien ruin."

"Is that something we can talk about?"

Song Lan looked around, his voice unconsciously lowered a few notches, his demeanor nervous—as a research-loving detective, being approached by a gaudily dressed stranger asking for his opinion on recent events was bound to make him cautious.

"What’s there to hide?"

"What if I say the wrong thing? I’m afraid on my way home, a bunch of men in black might jump out and nab me, taking me away to some desolate place to silence me... This is not a good place to talk with so many prying eyes."

The woman seemed not to have anticipated Song Lan’s response; she was taken aback at first, but her smile grew, "Don’t worry, I assure you no men in black will come and abduct you."

"Who are you, how can you assure that, what’s your purpose?" Song Lan asked, anxiously glancing in the direction of the crowd.

"They probably won’t hear your cries for help for quite some time. Or, let’s put it this way, if you don’t tell me, I could knock you out and drag you into a car, taking you to a place cut off from the world..." The woman innocently blinked, then after a moment, she burst out laughing, "You really are quite interesting; no wonder Hanna likes chatting with you."

"You know Hanna?"

"I know her parents, and you could say I watched her grow up. Don’t worry, I won’t make things difficult for her friends."

As she spoke, the woman reached into the inner pocket of her clothing, discreetly retrieving an object.

The exquisite badge refracted dazzling light, with six stars encircling the sacred Gun Shield Emblem.

The badge was specially made and was further adorned with petals that looked strikingly lifelike.

Song Lan’s pupils shrank, "You are...!"

"Shh!"

The woman quickly put the badge away and made a shushing gesture to Song Lan.

Only then did Song Lan notice the strange scene. With the woman’s oddly styled attire, none of the visitors bustling around the exhibition hall seemed to linger their gaze on her. If the woman had not employed some kind of visual trick, Song Lan would have had to stand up and criticize them all—You all simply have no respect for the value of a nanotech bodysuit!

"You can call me Jasmine... So, do you believe now that I’m not a bad person? I have no ill intentions, I’m just curious about your views on the Alien Ruin."

Song Lan perfectly demonstrated the dilemma of a young person faced with such a situation, and after a moment of silence, he finally "made up his mind," covered his mouth with his hand, and spoke in a voice only the two of them could hear, "I think what people are saying online isn’t right, those aren’t ruins left by aliens."

"Oh? How so?"

"I saw photos taken inside the building. Although it looks very special, a closer observation reveals that with our current level of technology, it’s completely possible to construct such a building."

"What about the statues inside, then? How would you explain those?"

"It’s possible that the equipment inside was damaged due to some unforeseen event, causing the invisible force field that was maintaining its concealment to fail. I’ve read a scientific journal before, the issue that introduced the invisible force field said that with our current technology, it’s entirely feasible to keep an entire street block invisible."

Faced with the questions of this Six Stars rescuer, Song Lan demonstrated his professional detective skills.

Don’t believe in rumors, and don’t spread them.

"I also found witnesses claiming they saw a person wearing a black coat, a top hat, and a mask disappearing in the blink of an eye when the building became visible and collapsed."

"What do you think that person was?"

"According to the clues I’ve gathered, their description of the attire is strikingly similar to that of the ’hot-blooded citizen,’ so I suspect that the ’hot-blooded citizen’ may not really be dead."

Song Lan took a deep breath, deducing an important conclusion, "So, I guess that the culprit behind the Destruction of the building is very likely the ’hot-blooded citizen’!"

Jasmine’s eyes sparkled with an unusual gleam as she composed herself before speaking, "You truly are a detective, an interesting theory. It’s the first time I hear this kind of speculation."

That was, of course, a lie.

One of the reasons they came to the Seventh District was to find the ’hot-blooded citizen,’ and it was precisely for this reason that they couldn’t let any information slip.

What she had not anticipated was that Hanna’s friend would turn out to be a genuine detective, deducing the truth from various clues online.

What she had expected even less was that Song Lan was merely repeating the intelligence that the United Government already knew, in the manner of a detective’s reasoning.

He also had a considerable study of redundant literature.

"You know Hanna’s parents, and you are a Six Stars rescuer, so there’s something I want to tell you."

"What is it?"

Caught up in the ambiance, Jasmine instinctively lowered her voice and leaned in closer, in sync with Song Lan.

"If I get taken out, the murderer will definitely be the ’hot-blooded citizen’."
