Chapter 459: Chapter 459: Reins_1
"You control the destiny of this world."
After an indeterminate amount of time, a voice echoed in Song Lan’s mind.
The voice sounded somewhat familiar yet remained distantly removed from him, and as Spiritual Energy kept pouring in, his thoughts were pulled along to an even more distant point in time.
Within the chaos and darkness, it seemed as if electricity shot through his brain.
Then came the cheers of the crowd, and before regaining his sight, what first appeared before his eyes was a string of complex codes, meticulously documenting the current state of his body.
For most people, the moment of their birth usually takes place in a hospital, where doctors sever the umbilical cord connecting them to their mothers and bring them into this world.
But for the Colossus, his birth was not in a prosthetic hospital but in a research institute filled with sophisticated research equipment, surrounded by a group of fervent researchers celebrating this momentous historical milestone.
He looked around and found a familiar face in the front row of the crowd.
Professor Myles.
At that time, the professor was in his prime, holding research data, his hands trembling slightly with excitement.
Then, fragments of memories surged upwards.
In these shattered memories, he saw a mad scientist, mad enough to order his assistants to strip his brain from his body and transplant it into a cold machine, because he firmly believed that only by abandoning the weak flesh could human consciousness attain eternity.
What absurd beliefs.
Who in their right mind would abandon their own body to become a subject of this insane experiment?
Then, he finally realized his current state.
He could not feel his arms or legs, could only maintain his current perspective, completely immobile.
His eyes were prosthetic, his ears were hearing aids, and as for his mouth...
He simply couldn’t communicate with others normally.
He had no body, the part below his neck was placed on a platform in the laboratory, and what housed his consciousness was a mechanical head.
However, such a state didn’t hinder him, he quickly learned how to convey his thoughts directly into the minds of others without using his voice, the first time he did this, he frightened the researcher monitoring him so badly that they scrambled out of the laboratory.
Gradually, the Colossus discovered that the power of consciousness was far more profound.
Thought replaced his limbs, allowing him to perform almost any action he desired purely with his mind, even in situations where a physical body would normally be required, and during this lengthy process, Professor Myles made the Colossus realize one thing.
He had shed the shackles of humanity and had become a being that transcended humans.
However, the strength of consciousness wasn’t their ultimate goal, they were working hard to create a suitable body for him, a receiver and transmitter unlike any before, capable of taking him to levels of existence humans had never touched, and this would become a historic milestone in the research of Spiritual Energy.
...
Then, the scenes perceived by Song Lan started to distort, all memories became disordered as if crushed by some external force, and in their place were images completely unrelated to him, his perspective left the research institute and reached a higher dimension.
He no longer saw a specific research institute, nor did he hear an individual’s voice or troubles, instead, he witnessed the changes of the world.
The concept of time became indistinct.
He watched an ordinary city being transformed into the Seventh District, its original inhabitants displaced, and synthetic beings taking over the vacated positions, followed by the roots of the Morning Star Academy taking hold on this land, as the first batch of students carefully selected by the United Government arrived in the city.
The edifice symbolizing the laws of the United Government was erected in the Sixth District, they named it "Libra," a promise of fairness and justice every legal worker aspires to uphold.
He also saw the United Government begin its exploration of the "outside world," where adventurers filled with an intense curiosity about the future and a strong spirit of adventure left their homelands to join the gold rush.
...
He was in God’s perspective, witnessing the changes in the United Government and the world through a hazy timeline.
Where he came from, what his name was, or why he woke as a consciousness entity among researchers no longer mattered. He had a more important mission.
"You hold the destiny of this world."
That’s what Professor Myles had said.
When his gaze focused on a person, he would see where they were heading — this was the importance of Seventh District.
The destiny of each person would affect the future of the United Government and the world.
If the shadow looming overhead ever returned to this world, these children would become the blades to cut through the darkness.
Yes.
He held the destiny of all people.
To become the Guardian of this world was his mission, assigned to him from the moment the first current flickered through his brain, calling his consciousness back from the chaos of nothingness.
All that Song Lan sensed came to a halt.
For another strong consciousness had refused to let his exploration continue, and both returned from that ephemeral timeline to reality at the same moment.
They appeared in a black Pyramid outside the consciousness of all, at the top of the stairs, before the throne.
The black tide was pushed out, and the Colossus’s massive body moved at this moment.
"Your destiny is to be annihilated right here!"
The voice of the Colossus, once mixed with panic, now reignited with silvery-white starlight, bright enough to hold its own against the darkness.
He was the Deity controlling fate.
Yet, there was a sight appearing before the Deity that a god should never see.
Rows upon rows of dense code, just like when his consciousness had first awakened, were reporting programming errors and parts slipping from his control, the consciousness exceeding the load that metal and machinery could handle, making him feel as if he was burning.
The Colossus understood that the Shadow overhead was mockingly watching all this, and the person standing before him now was the one Professor Myles had once mentioned.
Only this time, he, as a Deity, could not see a clear future.
But none of that mattered anymore.
As long as he could annihilate the person before him, he would have fulfilled his mission.
At the same time, the surging black tide, like a tsunami, rushed towards him, and amidst the enveloping waves, his body and the throne became a lone boat in the sea.
Under the baptism of the tempest, the Colossus heard a voice.
——"Amberville."
——"That is your name."
