Chapter 451: Chapter 451: Undercurrents_1

By the time he placed the cremated remains and belongings into the urn, it was already the afternoon. The teaching assistant returned to his residence, quickly packed his luggage, and handed in his resignation to the academy.

The only reason he had come to this city to be a teaching assistant was because of Professor Myles, and now that this reason no longer existed, it was time for him to embark on a new journey in his life.

He faced the mirror, adjusted his bangs, and took one last look at the place where he had lived for so many years, then left without any reluctance.

The plane ticket to The First Region was for 19:30, and in less than two hours he would bid farewell to this city. Just like Professor Myles, he would seal away all the painful memories and the past he didn’t want to face.

As he stepped out of the academy’s gate, his phone chimed with a notification of an incoming message.

The message was from an unknown number, providing only a brief address. The teaching assistant opened the map to find that the address pointed to a café run by bio-androids, two subway stops away from the Morning Star Academy. Due to its distance from the school district, students rarely visited there.

The quiet environment was well-suited for conversation.

The teaching assistant smiled self-deprecatingly, hailed a hovercar, and gave the driver the address from the message.

As he had expected, aside from the service bio-androids, the café was empty. A "Closed" sign hung on the door. As soon as he approached, a bio-android came to greet him, its eyes shimmering with a pale blue light—a sign of performing a scan. Only after confirming the teaching assistant’s identity did the bio-android let him in.

He followed the bio-android through the café’s main hall into an interior compartment, where the person he was supposed to meet was already waiting in the staff break room.

"Bio-android?"

Seeing the light ring on the right forehead of the other party, the teaching assistant blurted out in confusion.

He had expected to face someone of higher rank for such an important handover.

The teaching assistant was dissatisfied with the decision to be met by a bio-android. These were preset entities that acted according to fixed programs; he couldn’t extract much information from them.

"I am pleased to meet you."

The bio-android greeted him with a flat tone. It seemed not adept at small talk and swiftly steered the conversation back on course, "For safety reasons, we hope you can hand over the item to us for safekeeping beforehand."

"Why?"

The teaching assistant was immediately on alert. According to their agreement, he was to personally deliver the item to them after arriving in The First Region.

The way the bio-android looked at him made his skin crawl. The service bio-android guarding the door only confirmed the teaching assistant’s bad premonition—they came in, locked the door behind them, and then drew the curtains, completely isolating the room from the outside world.

"I am only executing orders. Please hand over the item to us for safekeeping."

"Alright, alright, no need to get worked up. I’ll give it to you," said the teaching assistant in a hurry. He opened his suitcase in front of the bio-androids and after searching for a moment, hesitantly took out a "mixed-color" glass bead. With a look of reluctance, he handed the bead over to the bio-android, whose eyes glowed with a pale blue light when faced with the glass bead.

The bio-android nodded and gave a signal to its companion behind the teaching assistant.

Realizing something was wrong, the teaching assistant tried to run but before he could take any action, a plastic bag was placed over his head. His strength was insufficient to resist the bio-android, and before he could scream, his mouth and nose were smothered by the bio-android’s hand.

A strong sense of suffocation made him feel as if his lungs were about to burst into flames. His legs flailed wildly but he couldn’t move the bio-android an inch.

In his dying moments, he faintly heard the sound of the door being broken open.

Someone rushed in, swinging a weapon in their hand and striking it against one of the bionic humans. The bionic human stumbled, and in that brief moment, the teaching assistant’s hope for life was rekindled. He summoned all his strength and lunged at another bionic human that was pinning him down.

Just a little more,

He was about to be saved!

"Bang—!"

The sudden gunshot froze everything in the room at that moment. Through the plastic bag, he could vaguely see the figure struggling with the bionic human pausing briefly, then falling to the ground, motionless. With no one to resist them, the bionic humans pounced on him once again.

The fleeting surge of energy faded away, and he felt darkness and death enveloping him once more.

The teaching assistant’s struggling limbs gradually ceased to resist, and the rise and fall of his chest finally stilled. The expressions on the bionic humans pressing down on him did not change. They scanned the teaching assistant’s vital signs, and after confirming his life signs had completely disappeared, they stuffed him into a trash bag like disposing of garbage.

...

That evening, Song Lan and Lu Xiang received another shocking piece of news.

Professor Myles’s teaching assistant had died.

The cause of death was asphyxiation.

The body was found in the staff break room of a coffee shop two stops away from the academy. The murderer was also caught on the spot. According to the bionic waiter who reported the crime, the murderer had lured the teaching assistant to the staff break room of the coffee shop via text message, killed him with a plastic bag, and then engaged in a fierce struggle with the coffee shop’s security bionic human, ultimately being subdued by a stun gun.

When they learned the name of the murderer, the whole world seemed to become surreal.

Angle Saffire.

Because the case involved the Abnormal Case Investigation Bureau, it was now fully taken over by the bureau, and the murderer Angle had been arrested by the bureau.

It took Song Lan a good ten seconds to fully digest this overwhelming information.

An agent from the Abnormal Investigation Bureau not only botched the murder of an ordinary person but also was stunned by a security robot and arrested on the spot.

Was this something a three-star rescuer would do?

Even more bizarre was that, while he and Lu Xiang were discussing how to deal with the information contained in the glass beads, Angle Saffire had already been taken into custody.

According to the laws of the United Government, once the charges are confirmed, Angle will be discharged from his position and will face more than forty years in prison. Considering his former status as an agent of the Abnormal Case Investigation Bureau, his fate in any prison would be easily imaginable.

Someone wanted to take this opportunity to get rid of him.

That was Song Lan’s first reaction.

What was even more terrifying upon closer examination of every detail of the case, they suddenly realized that using artificial intelligence to murder and frame Angle – it all seemed like it was his own modus operandi.

"I’ve looked into the case,"

Not long after, Lu Xiang, having learned the details of the case, returned to the dormitory and said, "The evidence this time is very substantial: the questioning at the scene, the recording, and the source of the messages, all the evidence points to Angle Saffire."

Any person with criminal investigation experience would conclude that Angle was the murderer.
