Chapter 417: Chapter 417: Please Enlighten Me_1
In the room, three fully armed individuals gathered in Big Radish Head’s room.
By now, the sky outside the inn had darkened, four hours had passed since they sought guidance from Fengling. He still remembered the terrifying illusion that occurred when he pressed his hands on Fengling’s shoulders—as if standing before him at that moment was not a human being, but a towering mountain!
The strike that mustered all his strength and embodied his beliefs failed to make Fengling flinch, and instead, a few seconds later, she lifted him over her head with one hand.
That day, they truly realized the horror of an Adventurer’s combat personnel. They even began to doubt whether this girl, clad in a protective suit and gas mask, was human at all.
Of course, the subsequent interview phase was a failure; as a senior combatant, she had no interest in instructing them due to their lack of basics. However, Fengling didn’t outright reject them. Instead, she gave them their first assessment—together, if they could land a hit on her, they would pass the assessment.
Over the past four hours, they had made countless attempts, but regardless of how unexpectedly they attacked, their assaults were easily neutralized by Fengling.
As the vanguard, Big Radish Head was thrown to the ground over ten times that afternoon. Yet this did not diminish his will; on the contrary, it made him even more determined.
Because he suddenly realized that if he could train with Fengling, then one day, even if he left the town, not even the Boss of the Rebel Clan would be a match for him.
This time, their attack plan was flawless.
While searching the inn, they stumbled upon a slingshot in one of the rooms, a Divine Artifact that brought unimaginable long-range firepower. What surprised Big Radish Head even more was that Spicy Chicken was a slingshot expert, having practiced it during his mercenary years.
In his words, it was a trump card prepared for when the worst-case scenario unfolded.
With just a slingshot and small stones, he could take out the elite enforcers of a criminal organization.
"The plan is this, the village chief and I will attract her attention on the front line, and you’ll deliver the fatal blow from behind," Big Radish Head said.
Although they’d been busy all afternoon and hadn’t even touched the hem of Fengling’s clothes, their teamwork had undergone a qualitative change—it was as if they had become...
A trio of low-rank ninjas!
Huh?
This thought made him feel something was strangely off.
Armed and poised, the three hid in the shadows, observing Fengling’s every move. Repeated defeats transformed them from a team with brainless head-on charges to one that had learned tactics such as reconnaissance and ambush. Finally, their patient waiting paid off when they saw Fengling languidly stretch and walk into her room with a pillow in her arms.
The opportunity had arrived!
This time, it seemed as though even the heavens could sense their determination. The moment Big Radish Head shouted "Now!" everyone heard an uplifting background music that sounded the charge for them to attack. Big Radish Head and the village chief of Sheep Village burst through the door, giving the person inside no chance to react, and attacked Fengling from both sides.
Regretfully, their unstoppable momentum only lasted until they got close to Fengling. Right after, they couldn’t even see what happened; their vision flipped upside down, and they saw the familiar ceiling. They had been slammed down in the same manner numerous times that afternoon.
"Sneak attacks are useless," came Fengling’s almost cold voice from behind the gas mask as she looked down at the two on the ground. This was hardly a successful sneak attack, too noisy and lacking in means to strike the enemy decisively.
Even for someone completely unaware, the time it took for them to rush from the door to Fengling was enough for any guard to react.
"I know that!" Big Radish Head shouted, "You’ve thrown me down the same way ten times already!"
Although he still couldn’t see Fengling’s movements clearly, nor could he defend effectively, he had noticed a detail while being continuously thrown down.
Fengling would always flip them to the ground as gently as possible. The moment of restraint was also the time when she was most off-guard.
Big Radish Head and the village chief of Sheep Village exchanged glances, and under Fengling’s surprised gaze, they firmly grabbed onto her arms, one sitting and one standing. Almost simultaneously, the sound of something cutting through the air approached—a high-speed "bullet" pierced through the fog, aiming directly at her shoulder.
A slingshot?
The instant the "bullet" entered the room, Fengling discerned its outline. She immediately understood why Big Radish Head had been shouting—his clamor was to help Spicy Chicken aim. The fog enveloping the town obscured vision, making it extremely difficult to target. Accordingly, one could become negligent in defending against long-range attacks while living in such an environment.
At least, these three people used their brains.
But...
The Big Radish Head hanging on her right arm didn’t serve to restrict her at all, and she easily lifted her right hand, nonchalantly catching the "bullet" in her palm.
It was precisely during the process of connection with Fengling’s arm that Big Radish Head realized how formidable she was. His vision doubled as he caught the "bullet," and by the time he regained his senses, he was already spinning in mid-air.
He looked at the pebble in Fengling’s palm and sheepishly loosened his grip.
"Keep trying,"
For the first time, Fengling gave them a different evaluation. However, she immediately changed her tone and said, "But playing Bgm before attacking someone is a very stupid act. Don’t do it next time."
Playing Bgm?
Big Radish Head and the Sheep Village mayor exchanged glances. So, the stirring background music wasn’t their imagination, and even Fengling, who they had ambushed, could hear it?
"Sorry, the Bgm was my doing."
Song Lan poked his head in from the doorway and explained, "I saw how hard they were trying, so I gave them some moral support."
He felt that sometimes, those who are blissfully unaware of the truth are happier. This allowed them to dare to challenge Fengling time and again. In their eyes, Fengling was an adventurer who was a little too strong.
But looking at their actions from a bystander’s perspective...
They were three ordinary citizens armed with iron pipes, daggers, and slingshots trying to injure a Six Stars candidate of the United Government.
He didn’t want to be too impolite, but to bridge the gap between them, Song Lan thought that cold weapons were clearly insufficient. They might need a Gundam.
"Alright, don’t play it anymore."
Fengling gestured with her eyes for Song Lan to turn off the annoying Bgm. She was about to take a nap when the music started, which made her somewhat tempted to accuse Song Lan of disturbing the peace.
After receiving encouragement, the Big Radish Head trio were overjoyed and left saying, "Thank you, we’ll discuss it a bit more and attack you again later!"
Once the three had left, Song Lan spoke up, "Since you have nothing to do here, why not teach them some basic combat skills."
"Actual combat is the best teacher."
Fengling said, believing that the best teaching in this world is to set a goal for oneself and strive to surpass it.
She too, like these three, had challenged her family elders time and again, but once she became the strongest in her clan, she lost her goal.
Looking at Song Lan, Fengling suddenly had an idea, "They all say you’re very strong."
Many legends about Song Lan circulated in the junkyard.
It was hard to imagine that this somewhat frail-looking person was the strongest of the Bug Swarm, and even the Devourers didn’t know the extent of his strength.
Her gaze swept over the longsword by the bedside. Naturally, she didn’t need to use any weapon to deal with the Big Radish Head trio, but Song Lan inspired her to feel something she hadn’t felt in a long time.
With that thought, she grasped the longsword in her hand.
After she had grown to a certain point, she no longer drew her sword with the intention of "cutting people" against anyone.
"You’re right, since we’re free anyway,"
A peculiar glint passed through Fengling’s eyes, and sensing her current mood, the Guardian Spirit poked half its body out from the blade.
——"Might I request a lesson or two from you?"
