Chapter 406: Chapter 406: "Good Day" _1

Song Lan had put a lot of effort into finally making Fengling understand that orcas were not fish but mammals.

But it wasn’t entirely her fault, people in 2166 knew very little about animals, many common species before the war had gone extinct, and for a long time, the oceans became a hotbed for nurturing urban legends; exploration into the sea had come to a standstill, only recently recovering.

Rather than serious, factual scientific knowledge, there were more urban legends of dubious veracity.

The ocean-related electronic magazines that Song Lan used to collect had several issues dedicated to the giant sea monsters discovered in the ocean in recent years.

Octopuses, giant snakes, great white sharks, whales—there were mutated creatures of all kinds, and with a mix of eerie background music and reports of a certain marine base being destroyed with no survivors, Song Lan often watched in terror at night, sometimes even having nightmares about being attacked by sea monsters while out at sea with a ship.

It was clearly from these magazines that Fengling learned about marine creatures.

After some understanding, he realized Fengling wasn’t particularly fond of orcas, she just liked to raise large things; having begrudgingly learned to differentiate between fish and mammals, she then switched her focus to raising great white sharks in the artificial lake.

In regards to the wish of an heiress from a large family, Song Lan could only respond with, "As long as you’re happy."

The second district was famous for its culinary civilization, boasting a wide variety of fish dishes, but from his observation, this young miss seemed unable to distinguish what she was eating.

On the other hand, Big Radish Head and his two companions were also having their good days.

After repeated communication, the Adventurers made an exception by providing a special vehicle to transport things back to the urban area, but as a principle, for the safety of the town, they only had two opportunities per month to send things out.

Just after noon, they received a remittance from "Big Fat Sheep"—a total of 500,000 volts. The mayor of Sheep Village divided fifty thousand between the two of them, with the bulk of the funds set aside as their startup capital for the town.

On their first night in town, the two had done nothing and yet earned fifty thousand each, the speed of making money was almost on par with robbing a bank, and they did it guilt-free with the company’s money, without any trouble from the Law Enforcers.

Life was getting better.

Big Radish Head felt the excitement of entrepreneurship for the first time in his life, "Look what I’ve found!"

He carried a box of beer into the mayor of Sheep Village’s room. During the day while searching the town, he found these supplies left by someone unknown.

Earning big money and then drinking to a stupor, there’s no greater joy in life.

Just one day had passed, and the relationships between the three strangers had quickly warmed; while drinking together, they dreamt of the glorious future of making lots of money from the town, and as the alcohol kicked in, they, having done their share of hard, laborious work, simply found some mats, lay down, and fell asleep.

Waking up, the mist still shrouded the view outside the window, Big Radish Head instinctively checked his watch—it was already ten in the evening.

That night, the Adventurers had warned them, as they still weren’t sure if other aggressive Void creatures existed in the town, so in principle, they should avoid leaving the inn after eight at night.

The three of them had discussed these safety measures and always planned not to break them until they had managed to buy weapons from the mysterious merchant, Ge Fu, to defend against the Void creatures.

The room was extremely quiet, Big Radish Head found he was the first to wake up, the hard floor had made his back ache, and the air was still heavy with the smell of alcohol, which made his head throb due to the excessive drinking.

But his next discovery sobered him up considerably.

The village chief of Sheep Village had disappeared.

Big Radish Head saw Spicy Chicken lying on the ground, twisted in a bizarre sleeping position. The Sheep Village chief, who had previously been resting by the bedside, was nowhere to be found. What was even more strange was that the chief’s personal belongings, cellphone, and supplies were left carelessly on the bed, indicating that he had not simply kicked them away and left on his own after making some money.

Big Radish Head quickly realized the seriousness of the situation. He woke Spicy Chicken and, feeling braver with a wrench in hand, they searched the rooms along the entire corridor. Eventually, they came to a conclusion—the man was gone.

In the small town shrouded by the Void, a bizarre disappearance meant the consequences were self-evident.

The two immediately went downstairs and found Song Lan on the first floor.

"The man is gone? What do you mean the man is gone?"

Song Lan, too, was stopped in his tracks by the frantic pair, as if he had been hit by a bolt from the blue. As the manager of the Void Paradise, he clearly knew that Big Radish Head and his party had been in a novice protection period for the past few days. As long as they didn’t recklessly rush out of town, the town was supposed to be absolutely safe for them.

Yet, what was even more eerie was that both he and Fengling hadn’t noticed the Sheep Village chief leaving the inn.

He distinctly remembered seeing the three of Big Radish Head being quiet upstairs in the afternoon, so he asked the Guardian Spirit to phase through the wall and take a look. He found that the three were unconscious from drinking, sprawled out on the floor. Hearing that they had sold the Love Bugs to a company sucker for a good sum of money, it seemed normal that they’d celebrate with some drinks, so he didn’t bother them.

But now, Big Radish Head was rushing down from upstairs in a panicked state after ten at night, telling them that the Sheep Village chief had vanished.

Song Lan’s first response was that the man must still be in the inn, so he had everyone search every room on each floor, to no avail.

The search operation grandly continued for nearly an hour, and it wasn’t until eleven o’clock that they regathered on the first floor, confirming to each other that the Sheep Village chief had indeed mysteriously disappeared for some reason.

This place...

It couldn’t be haunted, could it?

Song Lan glanced at the night sky and fog outside the inn, the sudden situation making the atmosphere he’d created himself seem somewhat eerie to him.

Just as he was about to settle the two and go outside to ask the Knife and Axe Hands lurking outside the town, something even stranger happened.

Suddenly, Big Radish Head let out a scream, retreating several steps back in shock and pointing towards the entrance.

The Sheep Village chief walked in from the main entrance.

But he was soaked through with blood, and his clothes had cuts on them that made him look like a bloodied figure.

Yet he seemed not to hear Big Radish Head’s scream, trudging into the inn as if in a daze, ignoring Song Lan and the others gathered on the first floor, and went straight upstairs.

"Follow him and see what happens."

Song Lan immediately made the decision.

The group followed behind the Sheep Village chief, watching him leave a bloody footprint with every step, until he reached the door of his own room, entered, and quickly found his previous spot. Regardless of his wounds and bloodstains, he lay down on the floor and appeared to fall asleep.
