Chapter 403: Chapter 403: Middlemen Make a Profit Margin_1

"May I ask, if we don’t buy it, what consequences will there be?"

Having had dealings with the Rebel Clan, Big Radish Head cautiously inquired in front of Ge Fu. Everything in the Void was uncertain, and though the Ge Fu before them appeared to be human, who knew whether he might become enraged and suddenly activate his super transformation form, personally sending the three of them to their doom.

Yet Ge Fu looked puzzled, "Consequences? What do you mean by...?"

"Like breaking our legs or gouging out our kidneys, something of that sort. It’s fine, you can be honest with us."

Spicy Chicken also came to understand this reasoning.

In everyday life, knowing how to switch perspectives is very important. If someone were to ask them to spend 19,999 watts on a useless bug-shaped pillow, they’d certainly refuse, but if this mysterious merchant were to rob them and then nonchalantly gift them a pillow out of pity, that would be much more acceptable.

"No."

Ge Fu shook his head confidently, "You’re not worth much."

He could randomly pick up some electronic waste from a junkyard and assemble something far more useful than them.

"Then we..."

"I’ll take all three."

The village chief of Sheep Village’s lofty tone made his companions think he must have gone mad. Could it be that he had lost his wits in the Void?

Spending a large sum on three seemingly useless pillows?

"Esteemed customer, you really have an eye for quality!"

The village chief of Sheep Village opened the payment method. In this little town, mobile phones and other electronic devices still worked fine, even wireless network connections were available. They had just tested it out. In this village, they could communicate with the outside world seamlessly.

The safety provisions of the agreement mentioned that they shouldn’t wander too far from their base after nightfall, and not even attempt to leave the town on foot during the day. Hidden within the deep fog lurked terrifying creatures, and such an action was a veritable suicide mission.

After completing the payment and taking their goods, since the hug bugs were as tall as a person, Big Radish Head and Spicy Chicken each helped carry one.

And truth be told, despite their scary appearance, these things were actually quite comfortable to hug.

The soft touch eased some of their psychological pressure. After saying goodbye to the mysterious merchant, the three transported the valuable cargo back to the village chief of Sheep Village’s room. Once they locked the door and confirmed that none of the adventurers from downstairs had followed them, they asked, "Dude, did you pay up earlier because you were afraid that the Void merchant would gouge out our kidneys?"

"Of course not."

As soon as they returned to the room, the village chief of Sheep Village had already started to make his move, "I’m here to make money."

In the list of contacts he found a familiar name, both recognized it instantly as belonging to the corporate individual he had mentioned on the bus.

Following the company person’s name was a bracket containing the words "Big Sucker."

The village chief of Sheep Village greeted the contact. The company person seemed unwilling to engage at first, but their interest was piqued once he had briefly described how he had been selected by the Void Investigation Bureau as one of the only three volunteers and that they were currently staying at an inn called "Candlelight" in the town. To prove his words were true, he took a photo of the inn’s room and then went to the window to snap a shot of the streets shrouded in fog.

After sending the two photos, the company person immediately showed interest and began to inquire about the details of the town.

While explaining, the village chief of Sheep Village casually mentioned their harrowing experience.

The three of them had originally planned to take a bus to report to the town. The first half of the trip was uneventful, but as the bus entered the fog, the noise attracted the attention of some Void creatures. Surrounded and attacked by monsters, the bus tumbled down a cliff. They were lucky to have survived.

They had obtained a map from the unfortunate driver and, as they made their way toward the town, they stumbled upon the nest of the Void creatures that had attacked them. In a life-or-death struggle, they managed to extract monster eggs from the nest, and although not yet hatched, the eggs were taller than a person.

The two companions, astonished by the village chief of Sheep Village’s detailed description of the eggs, asked, "Chief, the eggs you’re talking about couldn’t possibly be..."

Before he had finished speaking, he had already sent the three arranged insect eggs to the other party.

A few seconds later, a text message came back from the company:

"500,000 watts, can you deliver the goods before tomorrow night? If you can really hatch something from them, we’ll pay you an extra 250,000 watts for each nest hatched!"

At this moment, they finally understood the true value behind the term "big spender".

Although it is a derogatory term, not everyone is qualified to be called a big spender.

Big Radish Head’s eyes were already glazing over, this being the first time in his life that he realized money could be earned so easily.

"It’s quite normal, after all, we risked our lives to bring the insect eggs out of the monster’s nest. Isn’t our life worth this money?"

It’s not worth it.

Big Radish Head really wanted to say this, but the current atmosphere made him a bit embarrassed to speak out.

Honestly, forget about several hundred thousand watts; he was confident that if someone offered 50,000 watts for his head, Boss and those fair-weather friends would definitely plant him at the first opportunity to exchange for money.

For those living at the bottom, 50,000 watts could allow them to live comfortably for over a decade without the need to scurry about for a living.

And yet, these corporate folks could casually come up with an amount of money they could never earn in their lifetimes to buy three pillows!

"This is why I wanted to be among the first to come here."

Seeing that the two had been silent for a while, the Sheep Village village chief shook his head and sighed, "These days, information is money."

The two accompanying him clearly lacked any business acumen.

"Don’t get too excited yet. We still have to find a way to ship out these three Hug Bugs tomorrow."

"Brother! Take us with you!"

Big Radish Head and Spicy Chicken said in unison, their heads still in a daze, but they understood one thing—following this man would lead to money.

"How far do you think we’ve come?" the Sheep Village village chief gestured with his hand, "To earn big money, we need to find a way to develop this town."

...

Meanwhile, Song Lan was called to the town entrance by a call from Medea.

Upon reaching the agreed location, Medea had been waiting for some time, with a few insects that were slightly over a meter in length, had three pairs of wings and a pair of scythe-like claws, crawling in front of her. These insects had blood-red eyes and were restlessly hissing.

"Come on, give us a demonstration," Medea commanded.

At her command, the creepers neatly and uniformly burrowed underground in just two seconds, leaving fairly noticeable marks on the surface. However, under foggy conditions, it was impossible to detect their presence without getting close.

"This is a creature I’ve had the Devourers hatch by combining it with the town’s ecosystem. Their ecology is somewhat similar to the Death God Crab, but they are more agile. If someone passes by them, it would take less than a second for them to be sliced into pieces. We can use them like landmines to restrict the movements of the settlers,"

"I think, maybe this is a bit too extreme?"

Song Lan looked at the fierce subterranean creatures. He had indeed mentioned to Medea the need to ensure residents within the town’s bounds didn’t wander off, but it wasn’t necessary to slice them into ribbons, right?

"It’s okay, when we created them, we set two modes for them: one is to eliminate any creature that passes by, and the other is actor mode,"

Medea explained earnestly, "For this, we specifically invited Fengling for technical guidance. They are fully capable of inflicting tens of cuts on a person and still only causing minor injuries."
