Chapter 342: Chapter 342: Till Death Do Us Part_1

Lu Xiang had encountered an attack from an unknown psychic.

The good news was that it wasn’t really a bad thing for Song Lan or the two of them—Director Lu, having stayed in the hospital overnight, now had a perfect excuse to cling to Song Lan and take a short rest in bed.

"To join two people or a person and an object together."

Lu Xiang expertly pressed her face against Song Lan’s chest; this movement was nothing unfamiliar to her. Following Song Lan’s conjecture, as well as their current situation, she began to analyze, "If we look at the incident at Gold Diggers’ Bar from this perspective, maybe it wasn’t the knife and beer bottle that attacked Ophir and Ivan, but rather both parties were somehow joined together."

It just so happened that the bottle struck Ivan on the back of his head, while a sharp knife was plunging into Ophir’s chest.

Now the problem was the underlying mechanism.

Human, knife, and bottle—these three seemingly unrelated elements, what kind of rules could have led to the current situation?

As she pondered without success, a call from the hospital’s special operations team brought them a new element—members of the special operations team reported to Lu Xiang in a panic.

Captain Doug had encountered an attack.

And the attacker was a toilet in the hospital bathroom.

A quarter-hour ago, Captain Doug had gone to the bathroom alone, and since then, there was no news from him.

When the team members realized something was wrong and rushed to the bathroom, they found that Captain Doug had...

His buttocks glued to the toilet seat.

Even the members of the special team, accustomed to various crime scenes, were left with a psychological shadow by this desperate scene.

"Where’s Doug?"

Lu Xiang fell silent for a moment to calm herself before asking.

"He’s still in the toilet. We’ve sealed off the bathroom and prohibited anyone from entering!"

The words might not be entirely appropriate, but Lu Xiang felt sincerely relieved that the person she was stuck with was Song Lan. Putting herself in Captain Doug’s situation, if this scene had happened between her and Song Lan, she might have a hard time facing him for a long while.

A cry of alarm from the other end of the phone interrupted her thoughts.

The psychic’s attacks were still ongoing, accompanied by the exclamations of the medical staff—some collided with the nurses, some simply embraced each other in pairs, others attempted to merge with the various pieces of hospital equipment.

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to!"

The special operations team member on the other end repeatedly apologized.

"Then let go of me!"

The nurse shouted in frustration, looking to the doctor she had secretly adored, hoping he would transform into a knight to rescue her. However, the response was from someone half-stuck in an automatic beverage vending machine.

Lu Xiang placed her phone beside the pillow, turned to lie on her side in a more comfortable position.

Facing off against psychics was always a brain drain.

She shifted her gaze from Song Lan’s face to the pristine ceiling above and quickly entered work mode.

She still remembered from the course "How to Kill a Psychic?" that the teachers had stressed more than once not to fear the enemy’s use of abilities, for that was exactly when they revealed their weaknesses.

The strongest ability users would always know to hide themselves in the shadows.

And now, it was their second time witnessing the enemy using their abilities directly.

It was more distinct than the first time, wider in scope, and involved more people—this attack made Lu Xiang realize that she should not limit her attention to people or objects.

"Why did Ophir and Ivan leave the attached state?"

If she remembered correctly, when she arrived at the hospital, Ophir and Ivan were both lying on their beds, stable and without the eerie presence of a bottle on their heads or a knife stuck in their chests.

She had recently overturned the limitation of time.

The state where she and Song Lan were sticking to each other had far exceeded the time when Ophir and Ivan were sent to the hospital unless the Psychic willingly removed their abilities, this state would likely continue indefinitely.

Lu Xiang actually didn’t mind their current state, but it clearly could severely delay work efficiency. She couldn’t remember in which book she had read "Humans are creatures of habit," like when she would lie on Song Lan’s chest, she would feel sleepy and wanted to push all work aside.

Immediately after that, she seemed to suddenly think of something, and said to the special operations team member, who had not hung up and kept calling for help, "Go find Ophir’s attending physician, find that knife."

About five minutes later, the unlucky member of the special operations team was forced to carry the nurse in a bridal hold, running three floors, and finally found the murder weapon that had been removed from Ophir’s body in the operating room.

The handle of the knife was damaged, and the blade was split in two, which was enough to show that even the prosthetics struggled to remove the knife.

As for the bottle that smashed into Ivan’s head, it had already shattered into fragments by the time the special operations team arrived at the bar.

"But Director, what does this prove?"

The member of the special operations team asked eagerly.

He had a girlfriend, and they had been introduced by acquaintances. After a few dates, they had finally established a relationship. If she found out what he was doing in the hospital right now, it would not only shatter his dreams of getting out of single life but would also burden him with the infamy of being a scumbag.

But, this really wasn’t his intention!

He had no desire to carry this nurse around the hospital without reason.

"It means that you should now find a hammer, burst into the bathroom and smash the culprit who attacked Captain Doug."

Despite not understanding the significance of Lu Xiang’s instructions, the special operations team member did as she said.

Holding the nurse in one arm and with great effort taking down a fire axe with the other, he rushed into the bathroom under the incredibly shocked gaze of Captain Doug, not allowing him any chance to speak, and with a heave, he aimed the axe at what Lu Xiang called the "main culprit."

Captain Doug’s curses and the nurse’s screams merged, with the sound of the object breaking serving as a perfect accompaniment to the farce.

Shortly after, Captain Doug’s cursing over the phone suddenly ceased.

A brief silence fell over the bathroom, then a loud voice rang out, sounding like a declaration of victory.

"Damn it, I’m free!"

Lu Xiang seemed to have anticipated this, so she had hung up the phone beforehand, blocking out Doug’s heartfelt exclamation.

The hypothesis had been confirmed, but it brought no wild joy.

But at least it answered the question that had lingered in her heart—why the other party would risk exposing their abilities to bind her and Song Lan together.

The method to break this ability wasn’t so hard to think of; under certain circumstances, it wasn’t so difficult to solve either.

She looked up at Song Lan, suddenly recalling a romantic confession she had once read in romance literature.

Till death do us part.

But she had never thought that a phrase from a romance book would one day be reflected in reality, and in such a bizarre manner.
