Chapter 327: 327: "Mouse" says hello to you_1
While Song Lan was busy over the past few days, Lu Xiang had not been idle either.
Waiting outside the city was not her style. As the leader of the Bug Swarm, she manipulated the mutant creature resurrected by Song Lan, returned it to its original nest, and in less than a day, unified the wolf pack.
She quite liked the wolf pack’s straightforward way of interacting. The wolf king was the absolute leader of the pack, so after she gave the original wolf king a thorough beating, she became the backbone of the tribe. For the individuals within the pack, the wolf king’s orders were everything, without any room for questioning.
Thus, when she issued the order today to storm the city and attack the execution grounds, the wolves faithfully carried out her command.
The Intelligence Department, which thought they were on good terms with the mutant creatures, had not anticipated this attack at all. Before they could gather enough people to resist, the wolf pack had already broken into the execution platform.
Although the head of the Intelligence Department fought desperately, he fell into a coma amidst the chaos from an attack by a traitor. The last time people saw Veirdo and the prisoner, they were being torn and dragged out by the mutant creatures.
The attack did not last long, but it became the biggest humiliation the Intelligence Department had ever faced since its establishment—they were ambushed by a group of mutant creatures, routed in plain sight, and the prisoners and former leader Veirdo ended up as meals in the stomachs of the wolves.
The wolf pack’s sudden intrusion further intensified the city dwellers’ desire to flee.
The city’s defense forces were no longer safe, and this last line of defense had been completely overrun.
Just as the entire city was shrouded in fear and unease, the two people who were supposed to have been killed by the wolf pack had already been transferred outside the city, where the power of the mutant creatures easily crushed the handcuffs and shackles.
Lu Xiang’s mentor took off the blindfold, only to be met with the sight of a ferocious beast. The mere presence of the mutant creature in front of her was like a small mountain, oppressive and daunting.
Even she had not expected that the ones ultimately commandeering the execution platform would be a group of mutant creatures.
However, this attack was not something a bunch of mutant creatures could have planned. They seized the moment when the Intelligence Department’s defense was at its weakest. The operation was so efficient and clean-cut that it left her astonished.
She was certain that behind this group of mutant creatures, there had to be some hidden Black Hand.
It seemed that the forces eyeing the Fourth Neutral Country were not only them.
When she noticed the figure on top of the wolf pack leader, she was taken aback—the Horn Bug she had encountered in prison looked unremarkable, and this discovery answered all her questions.
"Stand down."
The Horn Bug seated atop the head wolf looked down at her from its high vantage point and spoke in human language, "A true Spy Master should know when to quit while they’re ahead. With your skills, leaving this place should pose no problem."
Lu Xiang’s mentor didn’t speak. She carefully observed the Horn Bug that spoke, trying to discern whether it was actually a mutant creature or a robot in the guise of one.
What surprised her most was that this bug seemed to know her quite well. Many guesses flashed through her mind, yet none could reasonably explain the identity of the other party. But undoubtedly, with the intervention of this Horn Bug and the mutant creatures, the situation in the Fourth Neutral Country had become even more complicated.
"I get it, I get it."
She heaved a sigh of relief and presented a posture of surrender in front of the wolf pack, "I’ll leave at once."
After leaving these words, she took strides and vanished into the nearby darkness. Only after confirming that Lu Xiang’s mentor had left did Veirdo speak up, "Are you the ones who delivered that document and helped me unlock my cell door?"
The reason he could appear in front of the execution platform was that someone had unlocked the prison cell and knocked out all the prison guards. But he had never expected that the one helping him break out would be a bug.
"This is your last chance," said the Horn Bug on top of the head wolf, not answering his question, but instead shifted the subject, "If you can’t resolve the internal conflicts among the people, external forces will soon intervene."
"I want to see Aljom,"
"Indeed, Your Excellency Veirdo."
The Horn Bug suddenly seemed to remember something and said, "The ’Mouse’ sends his regards to you."
..................
Meanwhile, at the Aljom Army Command Center.
Aljom sat in his chair, lighting a cigar for himself; he had never received so many pieces of bad news in a single day.
First, there were the resurgent dissenters.
Then, Veirdo had managed to escape from prison, and in full view of the public, ascended the execution platform.
A group of mutant creatures from who-knows-where attacked the platform, and Veirdo, along with the United Government’s spy, went missing after the attack.
And the source of all this bad news pointed to the same person.
"The Mouse."
One of the cadres of the Esinvig Army, he was the only one who did not follow Esinvig here but instead stayed alone in another city.
"It seems you trust his abilities very much."
Aljom exhaled a cloud of smoke, allowing the burning ash to fall on the intelligence report on the table, burning several irregular holes into it.
This report indicated that "The Mouse" had bribed a prison guard before the prison break, passing a piece of intelligence to Veirdo.
Subsequently, the lock on the cell holding Veirdo was opened, and all the prison guards were attacked by unidentified assailants.
The intelligence department had also found out that a few days prior, "The Mouse" had visited the local Cavalry barrack and, under the name of an Esinvig Army cadre, obtained a copy of their internal map.
The atmosphere of their meeting this time was tense and fraught, unlike their previous encounter at the theater. Everyone present was on edge, ready for conflict at any moment.
"Of course, I greatly appreciate his talents."
Esinvig, who had been sober and asleep the entire day, was now clear-headed and refreshed, "After all, he managed to deal with Aleye’s men in just one night."
Although he had never ordered "The Mouse" to make contact with Veirdo, nor did he know whether Aljom’s intelligence was reliable, if "The Mouse" had truly acted as such, it would have been more to his liking.
"I’m not Aleye."
The atmosphere in the room plummeted to freezing, as darkness seemed to come to life, spreading throughout the room, quickly obscuring the light, extending to every corner, turning into a cage that trapped everyone inside. "Whoever it is that does such a thing here will pay the price, even you are no exception."
In an instant, the clash of Spiritual Energy between the two sent everything surrounding them flying, and the cadres, like straw caught in a storm, struggled to stabilize themselves.
"I can’t even remember the last time we fought against each other."
Esinvig, at the eye of the storm, stood unyielding, "Aljom, you’re really becoming weaker!"
