Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Prohibiting Older Brother_1

Committed suicide out of fear of punishment, that was the conclusion ultimately reached by the field investigation unit.

The surveillance cameras in the interrogation room recorded the entire process of Lainal Boyev in the last hour of his life, in which he remained alone in the room for well over an hour.

The corpse of Lainal was sent to the forensic department immediately after his death. The results showed that he had not undergone prosthetic implantation; he was all genuine parts.

This eliminated the possibility that he decided to commit suicide only after receiving instructions from someone else.

Suicide seemed a logical choice for a criminal who knew he was doomed, unwilling to face federal law enforcement, but Lu Xiang saw clues in the surveillance video.

It was undeniable that Lainal wasn’t afraid of death, and he wouldn’t stoop to beg the Law Enforcers right before his death. Since his arrest, he’d acted like a pig determined to be scalded. Lu Xiang had encountered many such criminals before. They usually waited until the day of the trial to express their defiance before the public.

Headfirst deaths in an interrogation room seemed a bit too stifling for such a lawless hooligan.

Lu Xiang’s first reaction was that Lainal had received instructions from someone else. That’s why she had the forensics team examine the body right away.

The surveillance video indicated a conspicuous change in Lainal’s demeanor before his death.

The expression of disrespect on his face suddenly twisted with hatred. Before striking the edge of the table, he even roared, "F..k the Law Enforcers, no one can judge me in District 17!"

Yet, the autopsy report contradicted her postulation.

During Lainal’s detention, no one visited him, and all of his electronic devices were confiscated. If he hadn’t received a prosthetic implantation, how could they have "communicated" with him?

Meanwhile, outside Law Enforcement Manor.

Surrounded by his cohorts, Dominas climbed into a silver hover car.

Once inside, his dark expression slightly eased. He used his forefinger to gently massage his temples, and after a while, he exhaled. His fatigue was clear in his eyes.

"High Prosecutor, please forgive us, but the execution of Lainal Boyev was not your job. The Foster Family had made other arrangements."

One of his underlings commented.

"Trusting a failed Assassin?"

Dominas didn’t hide his contemptuous tone, "If it wasn’t for his incompetence, I wouldn’t have had to come here today."

"But the assassin was..."

"Angel Foster is dead, and everything related to her should be put to rest."

Dominas interrupted in a cold voice, "Now, I am the High Prosecutor of District 17. Perhaps it’s time for the Foster Family to move forward."

Even when mentioning the former High Prosecutor, Dominas showed no respect.

After all, he and Angel Foster were different.

He wouldn’t mismanage directives from the Foster Family and implicate himself.

More importantly, he had more significant tasks to complete.

... ... ...

Unconsciously, it was already afternoon.

Song Lan had finished studying the moral connotations of being a rescuer for the day and had also studied the state of the international economy. Finally, he purchased a packet of excellent beef brisket.

Lu Xiang had failed to return home for a hot meal two days in a row due to work. Today, he, on behalf of all the citizens in District 17, must commend the precinct’s dedication to the entire city.

Song Lan had refrained from visiting Lainal’s suicide scene along with the others. He was already on edge just hearing the chatter among his colleagues. He, for one, could never endure bloody scenes.

So he wouldn’t lose his appetite or have nightmares, he urgently watched two comedies to relieve his nerves.

At a quarter-past four, it was time for the administrative division to call it a day.

Song Lan switched off his computer, greeted some colleagues who had lingered in the office watching movies, and headed straight for his bike in the precinct. He still had to stop at the logistics point to collect the ingredients sent to him on his way home.

However, before he could even go downstairs, he heard footfall from behind.

Initially, he didn’t take it seriously. Still, until he left the office building, the footfall ominously followed him. To avoid the misunderstanding, he intentionally walked a large circle in the courtyard, but the footfall remained. Yet every time Song Lan would pause and look back, there was no one in sight.

The scene felt vaguely familiar.

Wasn’t this a classic scenario from ghost stories?

Soon, the footfall would draw closer to him. Once it grew unbearably close, he would turn back around to see a ghost face up next to his.

But, it was still light outside, and it was Law Enforcement Manor. Surveillance cameras were everywhere. I advise you think twice.

Song Lan silently prayed, then quickened his pace.

Unfortunately, the person who followed him did not hear his inner prayer and quickened pace alongside him. They jogged their way to where Song Lan had parked his bike.

This time, the footfall from behind was much closer.

Song Lan stood still in place for close to ten seconds. Eventually, after calming his emotions and preparing himself to confront any horrific creature, he turned around determinately.

Subsequently, he finally saw the face of the pursuer.

A boy, barely in his teens.

The boy had pale skin, hollow eyes, and tattered clothes. At this moment, he was standing just four or five meters away, staring at him.

Song Lan immediately thought of a child from a memorable horror movie.

"Elder brother."

After a long standoff, the boy eventually broke the silence. His voice was hushed, seemingly chilled.

"Romove... elder brother."

Song Lan’s face was filled with rejection, "Stay where you are. Don’t move, or I’ll raise an alarm!"

"Elder brother, you are a good person." The boy ignored Song Lan’s warning and took a step closer. "I want to learn from you and become a Law Enforcer like you!"

"What did you say!?"

Song Lan’s eyes hardened. The sudden volume of his voice startled the boy, who halted his advancement.

The boy felt Song Lan’s mood swing, from dread to anger.

However, the boy didn’t understand why Song Lan’s temper flared all of a sudden.

"You little brat, are you planning to lose your job in the future!"

Every word, coupled with Song Lan’s current disposition, was soul-crushing.

"I really don’t know what’s gotten into the kids of today, none of them ever amounts to anything good!"

In the boy’s astonishment, Song Lan harshly criticized the social issues of District 17.
