Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Green Travel, Away from Radiation_1

The next morning, as the leader of the Bug Swarm, Lu Xiang started making final preparations for the business trip. When she had been assigned to Zone Seventeen, she had never thought that one day, as a head of Law Enforcers, she would worry about the source of infection in the Third Nation.

However, considering that the potential target was the Devourer, this trip included the meaning of an exchange between different Bug Swarms.

In order to better understand the language of the wild Bug Swarm, they had found a domesticated Devourer early in the morning, allowing it to split off a part to serve as a translator, which attached itself to the armored floating car she had dispatched and merged with the integrated AI of the floating car.

With the floating car, their travel became much more convenient.

At least they didn’t have to travel through desert regions slowly by bus like last time.

"We need to keep as low a profile as possible," Lu Xiang said as the floating car set off, flipping through the intelligence she had gathered early in the morning. "The Third Nation is home to the Barrosa Group, and even though it is some distance away from the area where Doctor Oleg disappeared, it’s still better to be cautious."

Considering that during the last business trip, Song Lan had destroyed a division of the Barrosa Group, their relations with the Barrosa Group were likely hostile.

"No wonder," Song Lan said upon hearing about the Barrosa Group. He realized it was an organization that ostensibly dealt in arms trade but was secretly conducting genetic weapon research. Judging from the infection level of the division, they had probably been working on the Devourer for some time.

"The structure of the Third Nation’s outskirts is rather loose, consisting of villages and small towns. There are only three places that can be considered large cities. Our destination is on the border of the Third Nation, a small town of a few thousand people. Due to the harsh climate and the source of infection, the United Government and other Neutral Countries hardly have any dealings with them."

Only when the floating car approached the designated area did Song Lan realize that the harsh climate Lu Xiang had mentioned was different from what he had imagined.

He was rather traditional in thinking and subconsciously equated harsh climate with cold, dry, or scorching weather. However, considering the surface pockmarked with meteorite craters and the shimmering conditions within those craters, the harsh climate Lu Xiang referred to probably meant radioactivity.

Within moments of entering the area, the floating car warned them that the nuclear radiation outside was rapidly increasing.

"I’ve noticed that every time we go on a business trip, the environment is quite harsh."

Song Lan appreciated the view through the car’s transparent shell, finding it hard to imagine what sort of humans could survive in such a place.

He had even prepared himself for the possibility that the locals might have two heads or four to five arms.

The station en route to the Twelfth Nation was dirty, messy, and poor, but it was still a place fit for human habitation, while living here was almost like bathing in radioactive rain.

Sand baths were a specialty of the desert region stations, and Song Lan wondered if the Third Nation might also have created recreational activities like radiation baths.

"During the third war period, the Third Nation was a prime target for nuclear strikes; it was once a developed nation."

This was knowledge Lu Xiang had learned from history books. It was also her first time delving deep into this region. Previously, when she participated in school activities related to the Third Nation, they were usually in more peripheral areas. Their teacher called this shiny place the Radiant Sea. Apart from the dangers of radiation itself, it was home to countless mutation creatures beyond their understanding.

"In the middle to late stages of the war, the country suffered a devastating nuclear attack. Not only that, but after the emergence of the infection source, this land also had to endure the baptism of tactical nukes from time to time."

After the establishment of the United Government, over ninety percent of the tactical nukes used by foreign departments were deployed within the Third Nation. "To reach the interior of the Third Nation, one must first cross this Radiant Sea. That’s why other Neutral Countries that signed the alliance are reluctant to engage in trade with the Third Nation. Only some big companies have the means to air transport goods, and there are occasional aircraft crash incidents."

"I’ve already seen it."

Song Lan pointed at the wreckage of an airplane in one of the craters. The plane was broken into several sections, its surface charred black, and most of the cargo had lodged itself in those radiation-filled pits.

Looking around, there were more than one crashed transport airplane, and the scattered goods on the ground didn’t elicit thoughts of recovery from anyone.

"It’s said that mutated flying creatures appear in this area; perhaps you might even become good friends with them."

Ordinary people crossing this region usually did so with trepidation, and even the external department of the United Government was extremely reluctant to deal with the mutated creatures. However, for Song Lan, these creatures seemed to be his potential good friends.

Unfortunately, this time, perhaps because they set out early, these potential friends were probably hiding in their nests asleep and didn’t fly over to greet them.

"Not bad, you’re starting to look more and more like the queen of the Bug Swarm,"

Song Lan remarked.

In fact, upon hearing about the mutated flying creatures, his heart felt a small surge of excitement. In most battlefields, flying units belong to the high-level troops, and as a member of the Bug Swarm, who could resist the joy of a Flying Dragon swooping in?

"We’re getting close."

Lu Xiang looked at the coordinate information on the automatic navigation. "Doctor Oleg and his team crossed the Radiant Sea, and the last signal they sent was from a location ten kilometers away from the exploration zone."

According to Falena, this signal appeared just a few days ago, "provided that the people from the external department weren’t lying."

"He probably didn’t lie."

Benefiting from his excellent eyesight, Song Lan spotted a tall figure standing at the coordinates from a distance.

However, this didn’t seem to be a good sign.

The figure stood still, with nothing around it; the desolation persisted even beyond the Radiant Sea.

The figure showed no reaction to the approaching hovercar.

"I hope that’s not Doctor Oleg."

As the floating car slowly descended, Song Lan said.

Several more days had passed since the coordinates were released, and the person inside the exoskeleton armor was probably dead.

"There’s radiation outside, put on your exoskeleton armor before getting off,"

Lu Xiang reminded him, considering the harsh environment of the Twelfth Nation, she had requested two additional exoskeleton armors. According to the specifications, Teslar technology had produced this model of exoskeleton armor, which included a combat system for harsh climates and radiation protection, "Radiation is harmful to the body. During the following actions, you’ll need to move in the exoskeleton armor, and after entering, don’t forget to activate the vocal communication system."

"Received."

Song Lan gestured an OK sign.

A few minutes later, the two wearing the exoskeletons approached the figure.

"Do you see that mark? It’s from someone of the external department,"

Lu Xiang, with her somewhat cumbersome exoskeleton arm, rested it on the shoulder of the figure that was also covered in an exoskeleton, "He’s been dead for several days now."
