Chapter 252: Chapter 252: The Brave Director Lu_1
Cyber maniacs were not hard to find, as wherever they went, they left behind mottled bloodstains as a guide for Lu Xiang and Song Lan who followed later.
Among those bloodstains, there were many substances that could no longer be identified, which was clearly the result of high-precision and high-frequency cutting.
For his own mental and physical health, Song Lan didn’t ask Lu Xiang what parts of the human body these substances might belong to, although he believed Director Lu could recognize them at a glance.
"I’ve heard of the terribleness of cyber maniacs before, but I didn’t expect it to be this horrific."
Looking at this trail marked by bloodstains, Song Lan said with a mixture of awe and fear.
"This is a real cyber maniac," Lu Xiang said. "Anfiya is mild or not sick at all."
The cyber maniacs in the remote prison certainly met most people’s definition of that group. Once the symptoms flared up, they would kill anything alive they encountered, friend or foe.
The cyber maniac they were dealing with had obviously reached a critical stage of the illness.
From a distance of twenty or thirty meters, the two could sense the presence of the cyber maniac, who hummed a strange tune as he moved forward. In the quiet environment of B Detention Area, accompanied by the unsettling red alarm bells, it made Song Lan feel as if he was in a scene from a horror game.
Stop, if you have something to say, say it. Could you stop humming?
They quickened their pace, catching up with the cyber maniac before he could storm into the densely populated area of the prisoners.
In some ways, the cyber maniac’s deterrent power was much greater than that of the Law Enforcers. Upon hearing of a cyber maniac breaking into the detention area, these normally fearless felons squeezed into their cells, trembling with fear.
"Brother, I don’t know what trouble you’ve encountered in reality, but let’s talk it over,"
Song Lan yelled from about ten meters away from the homeless man.
Unfortunately, unlike the sociable Xiao Anfiya, upon seeing Song Lan and Lu Xiang, the man, already stained with the blood of prisoners, bared his teeth into a chilling smile.
His speed instantly increased several folds, creating afterimages as he ran. With the glaring heat energy blades on his arms, he now looked like a humanoid weapon devoid of emotion.
No wonder the inmates in the detention area had been sliced up at first contact. In the blink of an eye, the cyber maniac had crossed the dozen meters and was right in front of them.
He was like a beast in the midst of hunting, his gaze filled with nothing but a thirst for blood.
"Have you ever heard this saying?"
But soon, the desire in the cyber maniac’s eyes was replaced by confusion. The man in front of him hadn’t been cut into pieces instantly like the previous prisoners; he was still intact and standing in place, talking.
The cyber maniac instinctively swung his arms, but this time, his cybernetic limbs did not respond.
"When you encounter difficulties, don’t be afraid. Face them bravely."
Song Lan kindly caught the cyber maniac as he fell, comforting him, "We are the Law Enforcers from District 17. You can tell us what’s troubling you without worry. We will see justice done for you."
What a picture of friendly and harmonious mutual assistance between the Law Enforcers and citizens!
If it weren’t for the cyber maniac’s two arms equipped with heat energy blades flying out over ten meters away and rolling into a corner of the room, Lu Xiang would almost believe Song Lan’s words were genuine.
She had stood behind Song Lan the whole time, yet she didn’t understand how he had acted.
By the time she came to her senses, he was already holding the cyber maniac who had nearly fallen due to exhaustion, just like a concerned citizen would.
She actually found Song Lan far more terrifying than the Cyber lunatic.
"Report to the Director, the suspect might be too overwhelmed to speak at the moment."
"Cyber lunatics are impossible to communicate with."
After carefully examining the devices on the vagabond’s body, Lu Xiang said, "He must have implanted subdermal armor, heat cutting blades, and an operating system that works with the cutting blades."
All the cybernetic implant techniques were designed to complement the cutting blades. Now, without his weapon, the vagabond had no choice but to settle down.
But just to be safe, after they brought the struggling Cyber lunatic back to the guard room, they strapped him firmly to a stretcher with restraining belts.
While she was busy tying the man up, Song Lan once again showcased his excellent social skills, getting chummy with the prison guards in the remote outskirts prison.
Even the Prison Warden pulled up a chair and gathered around Song Lan, listening to him recount the harrowing incident that had just occurred.
"Let me tell you, in less than a second, this Cyber lunatic closed a distance of over a dozen meters to come right in front of me. I’m not ashamed to admit, my legs turned to jelly. But just in the nick of time, Director Lu pushed me aside, whoosh—!"
"Could you talk less?"
Lu Xiang’s eyelids twitched violently.
Song Lan’s modulating tone was as good as a professional storyteller on the radio. While explaining to the Prison Warden and the guards, he also gesticulated, as if he was imitating how Lu Xiang quickly subdued the Cyber lunatic.
Although she had to cover for Song Lan’s true identity, which certainly meant the credit would ultimately be pinned on her, Lu Xiang suspected if she let Song Lan continue to boast, it wouldn’t be long before she became the next Cyber lunatic.
Those guards were already looking at her as if she too had a body full of military-grade implants.
She wasn’t, she didn’t!
She wasn’t even paid that much!
"Go and retrieve the video recording of ’Hyena’ meeting the Cyber lunatic."
Lu Xiang gave the command.
They were, after all, a step late. Before their arrival, ’Hyena’ had been torn to pieces, but fortunately, as an old hand, he wasn’t foolish. When the vagabond "drew his light blade," he understood what was going on.
He knew there were surveillance cameras set up in the visiting area, so before the vagabond caught up with and killed him, he shouted out an important message.
"Lador, Gold Diggers’ Bar."
These two pieces of information were crucial. Lador was obviously the name of a middleman. Based on their current intelligence, this Lador was likely the intermediary who had assigned tasks to ’Hyena’ and Chai Ke before, which confirmed there were hidden circumstances behind the deaths of Anfiya’s parents.
The gang fight six months ago was likely a targeted murder against the two.
To find out the truth, they had to race against time and locate Lador before the company took care of him.
The attack at the remote outskirts prison showed that the company had more than one Cyber lunatic at their disposal, and until now, they had been utterly unaware of this.
After confirming the information on the video, Lu Xiang said to Song Lan, "You take this vagabond back. I’ll head to Gold Diggers’ Bar. Afterward, contact Chief Snick and have him look into this vagabond’s identity."
