Chapter 251: Chapter 251: Learning from Mr. "Mouse"_1
"Attention, inmate number 107 from B Detention Area, you have a visitor. Please proceed to the meeting window immediately."
The synthesized electronic voice interrupted Hyena’s train of thought. He held four cards in his hand, and the atmosphere at the card table was quite tense. Hearing the call, he chuckled, throwing the four cards down on the table and said, "Someone’s looking for me, so this round doesn’t count."
"You’re cheating!"
The person sitting opposite him cursed when he saw the four cards.
Hyena was unfazed. He feigned regret, shrugged his shoulders, and said, "You were so close to winning my money."
"You scumbag, one day you’re going to get chopped to pieces outside!"
A fellow serious offender at the table shouted then jeeringly added, "Make it quick and come back, today I’m going to win so much you won’t even have your underwear left!"
Hyena waved to the others, quickening his pace.
Life at the remote prison was somewhat different from what he had expected. He and Wild Boar had been arrested and jailed together, and the two had always had trouble getting along. He had thought that he would continue his feud with Wild Boar in prison, but life inside turned out to be a whole different scene.
No matter who the prisoners were before they were incarcerated, or what they had done, the first lesson upon arrival was to learn about the "advanced deeds" of Big Brother "Mouse."
After hearing from the serious offenders about Mouse’s heroic acts and how he boldly defied the United Government by breaking out of jail and rescuing the Witch of the Snow, Aishi, they deeply realized how short-sighted they had been, focusing on immediate gains and forgetting who the real enemy was.
If you ask him, if the Rebel Army attacked District Seventeen one day, just a call to arms would have the inmates from the remote prison uprising in response.
Now, he and Wild Boar could even sit at the same table, playing cards and trading insults.
Walking into the visitation room, Hyena straightened the fringe on his forehead. The monotony of prison life was so numbing that he couldn’t even remember how many days it had been since he was locked up.
However, he had a guess as to why someone wanted to see him.
Last night, some of his boys had been brought in, and after being taken by the veteran inmates for the customary indoctrination about Mouse’s "advanced deeds" and the need to keep a rebellious mindset to recognize the true enemy, they reported to Hyena the reason for their incarceration.
Officially, it was for causing trouble and the compound sentencing of their past crimes, but in reality, it was to avoid the pursuing cyber lunatics.
One of them had witnessed a brother’s head being blown apart by a sniper’s bullet, and even in sleep, he would occasionally shout, "Don’t come any closer!"
This was enough to demonstrate the psychological shadow the cyber lunatics had cast over them.
Based on Hyena’s understanding of the Law Enforcers, he guessed that it was most likely Lu Xiang who had come to inquire about the situation.
Yet, he had no fondness for this director of the Law Enforcers department, and according to the narrative of his fellow serious offenders, Lu Xiang was Mouse’s arch-nemesis. On the day of the jailbreak, had it not been for their desperate resistance, the breakout plan might well have failed.
Cooperation was out of the question.
In this prison, there were no inmates who would bow to the Law Enforcers.
"Isn’t it common sense to offer some benefits before asking for a favor..."
Hyena looked up at the ceiling, striding arrogantly towards the meeting window. But just as he prepared to launch into a speech, face to face with Lu Xiang, his voice got stuck in his throat.
Because the person sitting at the other end of the visitation room wasn’t Lu Xiang, but a scruffy man he had never seen before.
With a ragged beard, hair untended, hanging down to his shoulders, and clothes full of holes as if picked from a trash heap.
The man didn’t speak; he just stared at Hyena through the visitation room window with cold eyes. Even separated by a bulletproof glass, Hyena felt a chill.
After much thought, he was certain he had never seen the man before him, who resembled a homeless wanderer, and it seemed the stranger hadn’t come to inquire about the Cyber madman either.
"Who are you?"
Under the mounting pressure, "Hyena" spoke up first.
The wanderer didn’t verbalize a response, but instead, he answered "Hyena’s" question with an action— he flicked his right hand, and a blade emanating a scorching stream of air extended out. With a casual wave, he sliced an opening in the bulletproof glass that stood between them.
At the same time, the prison alarms blared, and an emergency announcement about the lockdown of the detention area could be heard from outside.
"Hyena" reacted swiftly; as soon as he sensed something was amiss, he grabbed a chair and threw it at the homeless man, then turned and ran towards the door without looking back, all the while shouting, "Lador, it’s Lador from Gold Diggers’ Bar!"
His cries didn’t last long— the homeless man was much faster than him.
"Hyena" didn’t even get close to the door before he saw parts of his own body being separated from him.
First an arm, then a leg, until the form in front of him was no longer recognizable. Only then did the homeless man stop.
After "carving" up "Hyena" like a chef would with his dish, the homeless man looked up and walked deeper into the detention area.
.....................
By the time Lu Xiang and Song Lan arrived, the entire suburban prison had been completely sealed off. They had received a distress call from the prison guards halfway there, claiming that a Cyber madman had attacked the prison.
Another Cyber madman had appeared!
Upon seeing Lu Xiang’s arrival, the Prison Warden appeared as if he had seen a savior. As soon as their hovercar landed, he approached, "The Cyber madman is in B Detention Area; there are already 17 casualties. He must have implanted subdermal armor as the prison’s automatic turrets can’t inflict effective damage on him."
It had also been Lu Xiang who came to offer support during the last large-scale prison escape.
"Immediately shut down all surveillance; he might have installed cybernetic limbs capable of hacking into the monitoring systems."
Of course, that was nonsense. The only advantage to shutting down surveillance was to facilitate Song Lan’s movement within the detention area.
But this reason was very effective for the already panicked Prison Warden, who was not well-informed about military-grade cybernetics. Believing her without question, he immediately ordered the guards to shut down all prison surveillance.
Lu Xiang gave Song Lan a knowing glance, and without a word, the two headed towards the B Detention Area.
Assassinate and silence.
It was clear that the company behind Anfiya did not want them to find out their identity and had launched an attack on the prison before they could.
Not until the two of them turned a corner in the hallway did a prison guard beside the Prison Warden hesitantly ask, "They’re just going there like that?"
The guards were armed to the teeth but intimidated by what they had seen on the surveillance screens; none of them dared to confront the Cyber madman in B Detention Area.
Yet the members of the Law Enforcers were heading to B Detention Area unarmed.
"What do you know?"
The Prison Warden said, "I heard Director Lu was transferred from the core area. It’s possible that the implants she has are far more advanced than the Cyber madman’s."
"Damn Cyber madman!"
The guards watched the direction in which the two had disappeared and angrily added.
