Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Don’t Stop Thinking!_1
Lu Xiang felt that Song Lan must have a trait that attracted criminals.
Letting him screen test, he conveniently brought back the Red Spider Group’s second-in-command; of course, officially, this was another powerful strike against crime by Su Li.
But, when Su Li went out with Song Lan, would Su Li have directly smashed the other person’s face into a table without Song Lan’s instruction?
The second-in-command fainted on the spot and after being brought to the Enforcers’ department, they had to send him to the medical room to receive treatment first.
Lu Xiang had heard about the Red Spider Group’s infamy "outside," and among them, human trafficking particularly affected District Seventeen and the various stations the worst, with many women’s disappearances linked to them.
After kidnapping their victims, they would take them out of District Seventeen and sell them at high prices to criminal groups "outside" interested in "city girls," and the fate of those trafficked could only be described as tragic.
The Red Spider Group’s leader seemed to have already considered evacuating, but now that Song Lan had brought back such a significant breakthrough, Lu Xiang wouldn’t give these criminals, who caused multiple disappearances in District Seventeen each month, any chance to escape.
...
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the entire production crew was extremely satisfied with Song Lan’s performance.
Although he was knocked out by Su Li, the courage to suppress a real criminal was genuinely witnessed by them and even recorded with a drone.
Before Su Li made his move, the Red Spider Group’s second-in-command was frozen in fear by Song Lan for a good tens of seconds.
They found Song Lan somewhat familiar and became extremely interested in his identity, but Song Lan remained silent about it, and Su Li also warned them not to inquire further.
Therefore, they could only subconsciously believe that Song Lan was an old comrade of Su Li’s, currently living in seclusion in District Seventeen; after all, before switching careers, Su Li was indeed working in an enforcement department, and had it not been for that incident caused by drug overdose, he would probably still be traveling around.
The actor for Chai Ke was quickly confirmed, and seizing the rare opportunity, the director and screenwriter enthusiastically invited Song Lan to participate in the script discussion.
"You are playing the boss of the largest local crime syndicate, controlling an entire trade route along the border but secretly, you’ve been dealing with the Barrosa Group, trying to purchase nuclear weapons from them," said the screenwriter, excitedly introducing Chai Ke’s new setup.
Song Lan had already heard about these contents; in fact, if it wasn’t him playing Chai Ke, he would have been quite happy to see the return of this old "friend" getting an upgrade.
At least people from other cities would have a different impression of Chai Ke after seeing this movie.
But ever since he heard about their script the last time, there was a question haunting Song Lan’s mind, and he felt it necessary to raise this soul-piercing question today, "Why does Chai Ke want to buy nuclear weapons and carry out a terror attack on the United Government?"
Given Chai Ke’s original identity, the Foster Family was his biggest backer; he should wish for the United Government to last long, and carelessly hurling nuclear bombs into the core areas was simply looking for trouble without cause.
One should know that although guns were rampant in the border cities, nuclear weapons were not something a local crime boss could get his hands on.
Even if, according to the screenwriter’s imagination, Chai Ke went through great lengths to obtain nuclear weapons, was it just to set off fireworks in the core areas?
That obviously made no sense.
Even those with a cyber psychosis wouldn’t be mad to that extent.
Song Lan initially thought that the screenwriter had already designed a riveting story, expecting an ensuing profound discussion, yet the sudden silence in the room made his mood plummet.
The screenwriters at Kolo Film and Television Media...
They couldn’t possibly be so amateur as to decide on a whim that Chai Ke should deploy nuclear weapons, could they?
However, it turned out that the screenwriter was so amateurish that he simply flashed an honest smile and awkwardly scratched his head, "Because we felt that Chai Ke’s original business was just too thin for a villain."
What about character motivation!?
Song Lan really wanted to slap the screenwriter on the forehead; he doubted whether the latter had ever studied screenplay theory.
"Or, should we make him a madman or a member of the Rebel Army?"
The screenwriter tentatively asked.
By now, Song Lan had completely lost hope in this screenwriter, who seemed to have the words "rash assumption" written all over his face. After all, whenever something bad happened, it was apparently acceptable to just throw dirt on the Rebel Army.
He felt that if Mr. Chai Ke’s spirit in heaven knew how flippantly the screenwriter was treating him, he would be angry enough to show him just how terrifying a 21% artificial body transplant could be.
"It’s too hasty, a character’s charm largely stems from his motivations."
Song Lan expressed his objection, as he did not want his debut film to be rated as a piece of crap. He knew that on the day the movie was released, Lu Xiang would certainly buy a ticket to the cinema. Would he really let her see him acting absurdly onscreen, portraying a simpleton who decides to bomb the core area at the drop of a hat?
Of course not.
Whether for the sake of Lu Xiang’s viewing experience or in defense of the deceased Mr. Chai Ke’s reputation, he could not do this.
So, Song Lan promptly asked his second question, "What exactly is Chai Ke planning to bomb?"
Despairingly, the room once again fell silent.
At that moment, Song Lan came to a dreadful realization—in the current screenplay designed by Kolo Film and Television Media, Chai Ke was a man without motivation or purpose. He didn’t know where he came from or where he was going; he just woke up one morning with the grand ambition to use nuclear weapons to bomb the core region.
And he hadn’t even figured out what place to bomb. Simply tossing out a nuclear weapon was considered a success.
Song Lan thought this was already preposterous, but as he continued down this line of thought, he discovered something even more ludicrous—the character, who was nearly an imbecile, had actually managed to get his hands on nuclear weapons, and had even successfully passed through the checkpoints of District Seventeen.
Thus, Mr. Chai Ke became the biggest rat dropping in the script. He successfully dragged the Barrosa Group, who dealt with him in nuclear weapons, and the Law Enforcers of District Seventeen down to his level.
Now he had sufficient reason to suspect that the crew of Kolo Film and Television Media were carrying out some sophisticated sabotage.
Their real purpose was to tarnish the image of District Seventeen’s Law Enforcers, making them look like a bunch of idiots!
However, when he turned his head, he saw the screenwriter looking blank and still giving him a foolish smile.
Song Lan had no choice but to dismiss the thought.
This screenwriter probably couldn’t think that far; in fact, he had simply stopped thinking at all.
Indeed, there are people who, when standing in a basement, coincidentally appear to be on the fifth floor.
"Libra."
"Isn’t that the place of the Foster Family..."
Song Lan interrupted the director and continued, "That building is the symbol of the Foster Family, and at the same time, it represents the highest hall of the United Government’s laws and judgments. The place Chai Ke wants to destroy is right there."
