Chapter 1128: Chapter 957: Sincerity is the Killing Blow_2
Ubiquitous patrol teams and the atmosphere that had sunk to freezing point seemed to be conveying, "Don’t even think about leaving my turf unless you slaughter me!".
"Although what I’m going to say next might be hard to accept, it’s very likely that the Review Meeting has sold you out. Perhaps they never considered your evacuation plan from the start."
Huona said, "If I were you, I’d set aside the mission given by the Review Meeting and think about how to survive here. Pooling all of your abilities and wisdom, you might stand a chance."
As she spoke, she kept her gaze firmly on "The Emperor".
The key to the problem rested on this once strongest rescuer of the United Government with Six Stars. His winning rate in the fight arena was proof enough he was much stronger than most inmates in D Zone. In this complex mix of a team, he alone accounted for over 99% of the combat strength.
Although "The Emperor" could not figure out what Huona was thinking, her earnest gaze filled him with a deep sense of shame.
More than two years of prison life had disconnected this former senior military executive from society for too long, causing him to be viewed as the core of the team right from the first encounter, as if a lot was expected of him.
But in reality, within this fearsome team, his only role was to serve as a portable refrigerator to provide chilled beverages to the real fighters after some not-so-intense battles.
"Devin-Huona, I must correct you, actually Mr. Song Lan here is the strongest of the United Government..."
"There’s no need for more words, I believe Miss Huona has already realized it. Yes, I am the youngest grandmaster chef."
Song Lan interrupted "The Emperor".
He really didn’t want to hear any more nonsensical titles like "The Strongest" or "Invincible" again. Every time he went to H1, the titles from staff in other departments made his skin crawl, and if those unfamiliar with him heard them, they might think he was the type of combat fanatic who, with nothing better to do, would seek out fights.
But in fact, those around him knew he was a good person who loved life and aspired for peace.
"...a grandmaster chef?"
Huona stared dumbfounded at the empty tableware. Song Lan’s culinary skills were indeed better than those of head chefs at high-end restaurants she had been to. However, before she was sent here, there were no titles such as a grandmaster chef in the United Government.
After nutrient injections replaced food, chefs gradually became a group serving the upper class.
Many rich ones treated excellent chefs like collectibles or pets, using them as a status symbol.
"I’ve heard that Mr. Monkfish highly appreciates those proficient in culinary arts. If you show your skills in front of him, he might let you run a restaurant. That way, the other inmates in this zone wouldn’t bother you anymore."
Huona suggested, and it was unexpectedly true that such an obscure skill could indeed make a difference in this barren land.
"Yes, I am planning to meet with the Judge after lunch."
He had to point out to the Judge that the patrol teams had seriously affected their daily lives.
"Well then... good luck."
Huona stopped herself, genuinely worried for Song Lan.
Her suggestion was the best possible outcome, but inmates in the zone couldn’t be measured by normal standards. These madmen could make any kind of incomprehensible move.
What’s worse, the death of Mr. Monkfish had put the Judge in a foul mood.
All she could do was wish in her heart that Song Lan would return safely after meeting with the Judge.
After lunch, Song Lan adopted a strategy of splitting up again. RT6 had to stay in the shop to repair the "The Emperor," whose refrigerator function had been damaged in a fight, and to buy any leftover beverages from the fast-food joint to expand their stock. Here, they had to thank Mr. Monkfish for his generous donation.
The grand Mr. Monkfish had covered all of their expenses in D Zone.
Song Lan and Lu Xiang’s team, however, were shouldered with an even heavier mission.
"We must meet with the Judge as soon as possible before more innocent victims emerge."
Lu Xiang followed behind Song Lan, with a look of holding back words.
This very "Dumb Bird" was actually the main culprit behind the increase in "innocent victims," yet his tone and demeanor resembled that of a just mediator.
If only he could spread his thick skin to matters of the heart as well.
Once again, they passed by a patrol team composed of Shadows, arriving at the grand entrance of the arena.
Judging solely by appearances, no one would consider Song Lan and Lu Xiang the brutal characters responsible for the slaying of Mr. Monkfish.
"Old Lu, I’ve been feeling something odd since earlier."
"The ingredients weren’t cleaned properly, and you got food poisoning?"
Lu Xiang tried to synchronize her thoughts with Song Lan’s, but this time Song Lan looked at her with a strange expression, "No, why would you think that? I’m talking about these Shadows, don’t you think there are simply too many of them?"
"Wait a second."
Lu Xiang gestured for a "pause," shocked, "You’re discussing serious matters."
"What else?"
"I’d rather believe you got food poisoning."
"...What exactly am I in your eyes normally?"
"Someone whose stomach hurts even without food poisoning."
Back and forth, Lu Xiang calmed her surprised heart and steered the conversation back on track, "You’re talking about these Shadows, what about them?"
"Their numbers are greater than those imprisoned inside the black Pyramid. δ mentioned that the vast majority of her kind were locked up with her, so where did these Consciousness Entities come from?"
"They turned into what they are now after being locked in prison."
Lu Xiang understood the Transformation process; Shadows were the form in which Consciousness Entities existed, proof that they had forsaken their frail bodies to exist in the world with pure spiritual power. However, because the pathway to the upper world was blocked, they lost the opportunity to progress further and were forced to linger in the "lower world" indefinitely.
"Our fellow townspeople not only created D Zone, but also turned its inmates into their Believers."
The Judge they were about to meet was an outstanding member among the Believers, who might have been The Bishop-class in the dark ages, selected from the multitude of followers.
And now, the Judge was very angry.
This could be deduced from the high-level Colosseum space falling into distortion; only when Psychic strength reached a certain level could it alter space. Considering this was out of anger, not intentional, it showed how terrifyingly strong the Judge’s Psychic abilities really were.
Song Lan was starting to believe what the subordinate of the "Emperor" provoked the Judge with during the taunt.
Without considering the new technologies developed by RT6, in its current state, the "Emperor" could not possibly rival the Judge.
Before entering the door, Song Lan was struggling internally, "How do we persuade him after we meet?"
He really wasn’t adept at dealing with Psychics, especially the natives of the upper world. Suddenly he remembered that all negotiations he’d encountered up to now had collapsed, eventually forcing the use of physical means to calm both sides down.
This scene brought deep feelings.
Back in the upper world, when he and Lu Xiang rushed to that feast, the situation was probably similar.
A Consciousness Entity pushed to the edge of rage, surging spiritual power enveloped the neighborhood like dark clouds.
"Sincerity is the ultimate weapon, isn’t that what you said?"
Lu Xiang spoke.
"You mean we should try an unorthodox approach, actively take the blame for Mr. Monkfish’s death upon ourselves, and then tell the truth? Explaining that what I did was purely in self-defense? Since the dead cannot be revived and both parties are responsible, why not take a step back from the sadness and anger, and welcome a new life?"
"You seem to understand, don’t you?"
"But I feel he may not accept this reasoning."
"I think so too."
"...Ah?"
"But just say that, I think it’s feasible."
Lu Xiang smiled.
Her sweet smile left Song Lan uncertain whether it was her genuine thought or just being sarcastic.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
Knowing Song Lan too well, Lu Xiang decided to skip the fruitless effort, "Anyway, a dispute is inevitable no matter what, so we might as well skip the dialogue phase and go straight to fighting."
