Chapter 92: The Accident
--- Few Days Later ---
Lucas sat at his desk, eyes scanning the contract that Aurora had signed earlier that day.
Everything was in place now.
The production was moving forward, and they were ready to take the next steps. But even as he filed the contract away, his mind wasn’t entirely focused on the project.
There was something else gnawing at him, a feeling that something crucial from his past was still missing.
A knock echoed on his door, pulling him from his thoughts.
"Come in," Lucas called, closing the file drawer.
The door creaked open, and Gabriel stepped inside.
His expression was calm as usual, but there was a sense of purpose in the way he moved toward Lucas’s desk.
"Any information yet?" Lucas asked, his voice steady but expectant.
Gabriel nodded. "Yes."
He approached Lucas’s chair and handed over a thick document. "This is everything I’ve been able to find so far about the accident."
Lucas took the folder, his jaw tightening as he flipped it open.
Inside were several photographs and detailed reports about the crash that had changed his life.
The first image that caught his attention was of the overturned car, crumpled metal and shattered glass scattered across the road.
Gabriel continued, "Your former assistant was also involved in the accident. A witness came forward recently. They said it looked like a truck was trying to ram into your car deliberately, but the vehicle swerved and flipped before the truck could strike."
Lucas frowned, his eyes narrowing as he studied the photo. "So, it wasn’t just an accident?"
Gabriel shook his head. "No. It seems there was intent behind it."
Lucas’s heart pounded in his chest as he turned to the next few images.
The wreckage was more horrifying than he remembered, the twisted remains of the car almost unrecognizable.
But it was the final photo that made his stomach churn—a burnt-out shell, the vehicle consumed by fire.
"They said you were pulled out just before the car exploded," Gabriel added quietly. "But your assistant... he wasn’t so lucky."
Lucas’s grip tightened on the edges of the document.
He had vague memories of his assistant, but the details were hazy, blurred by the trauma and the memory loss that followed.
"Do you think someone planned this?" he asked, looking up at Gabriel. "Was this someone trying to eliminate me?"
Gabriel took a step back, considering Lucas’s question. "There’s no clear evidence yet. But it’s possible. Whoever was behind this wanted to make sure you didn’t survive."
Lucas leaned back in his wheelchair, closing the folder for a moment as he tried to process the information.
His mind raced, searching for enemies, competitors, anyone who might have had a motive.
"What about business rivals?" he asked, his voice low. "Anyone with a reason to want me out of the picture?"
Gabriel shook his head again. "No one that stands out. Your competitors have always played by the rules. If there’s someone behind this, they’re hiding well."
Lucas sighed, exhaustion creeping in.
He had spent years rebuilding his life after the accident, but now it felt like he was back at square one, chasing shadows.
"I’ll find out who did this," Lucas muttered, more to himself than to Gabriel. "And when I do, they’ll pay."
Gabriel’s voice broke through his thoughts again. "There’s something else... something strange."
Lucas looked up, intrigued. "What is it?"
Gabriel hesitated for a moment before continuing. "There’s a piece of land, a significant property from the Rossi pack, that was given away around the time of your accident."
Lucas raised an eyebrow. "My pack? What does that have to do with the accident?"
Gabriel stepped closer, his tone more serious now. "The land was given to Alpha Grey five years ago."
Lucas leaned forward in his wheelchair, confusion flickering in his eyes. "Alpha Grey?"
The name was familiar, but it wasn’t clicking yet.
Gabriel nodded. "Yes. And Alpha Grey is Aurora’s father."
The air seemed to shift around them.
Lucas blinked, trying to connect the dots. "Aurora’s father?"
Gabriel’s expression remained unreadable, but there was a tension in his words. "The timing of the land transfer is unusual. It happened not long before the accident, and the deal was done quietly. No public records, no announcements. It’s as if someone wanted to keep it hidden."
Lucas’s mind reeled. Alpha Grey... Aurora.
The name was familiar, but he hadn’t known the connection before.
He leaned back in his chair, his thoughts racing. "So, Aurora’s father was involved in something that happened before my accident? Why wasn’t I told about this sooner?"
Gabriel looked down at his hands, clasped in front of him. "The information was buried deep. I only found out because someone leaked it recently."
Lucas’s jaw clenched. "Does Aurora know?"
Gabriel shook his head. "It’s hard to say. She’s never mentioned her family, and from what I can say, she’s kept her distance from the Grey pack for years."
Lucas murmured a quiet thought under his breath. "So I knew Aurora Grey from the past... and now her family is somehow tied to the accident."
The realization hit him like a wave.
His past wasn’t as disconnected as he had thought.
Aurora’s presence in his life wasn’t just a coincidence.
There was something deeper going on, something that linked them both to that terrible day.
Lucas wheeled back from his desk, pacing as his thoughts raced. "There’s no way this is just a coincidence," he said, his voice sharp with determination. "The land, Alpha Grey, the accident, Aurora... they’re all connected somehow."
Gabriel remained silent, watching as Lucas processed the information.
Lucas turned to him, eyes dark with resolve. "I need more answers. Dig deeper into this land transfer, find out who was involved, and see if there’s any link to the accident."
Gabriel nodded. "I’ll get right on it."
"And keep an eye on Aurora," Lucas added, his voice firm. "I want to know if she has any idea what her family was involved in."
Gabriel didn’t hesitate. "Understood."
Lucas settled back, his mind spinning with possibilities.
There was no denying that Aurora’s reappearance in his life wasn’t by chance.
The accident, the land deal—it was a puzzle that he was now determined to solve.
As Gabriel left the room, closing the door quietly behind him, Lucas stared at the document still sitting on his desk.
He muttered to himself, "Whatever you’re hiding, Aurora Grey, I’ll find it."
