Chapter 78: Missing Baby

Aurora slowly opened her eyes, blinking away the grogginess.

As her vision cleared, she noticed Ava sitting beside her.

Ava’s face lit up with a gentle smile.

"You’re awake," Ava said softly.

Aurora nodded and slowly sat up, her body still aching from the delivery.

Ava quickly moved to assist her, adjusting the pillows behind Aurora’s back for support.

"Thank you," Aurora murmured.

Ava then carefully lifted the baby girl from the crib nearby, placing the tiny bundle into Aurora’s arms.

"She’s beautiful," Ava whispered, her eyes softening. "She looks just like Sir Lucas."

Aurora’s gaze fell upon her daughter, and her heart melted.

The baby had delicate features, her cheeks rosy and soft, with a tiny tuft of dark hair atop her head.

But it was the baby’s eyes that caught Aurora’s breath—those piercing blue eyes, the same vivid blue that Lucas had.

Aurora’s lips trembled with emotion as she cradled her daughter closer.

"My Aria," she whispered, the name she had chosen for her daughter falling softly from her lips.

Ava smiled warmly. "Aria suits her perfectly. She’s absolutely adorable."

Aurora, still gazing at her daughter, suddenly remembered Lucas.

The blue eyes brought his absence crashing back into her mind.

She looked up at Ava, her expression shifting.

"Did you reach Lucas?" Aurora asked, a hint of frustration lacing her voice.

Ava hesitated. "No... I couldn’t reach him at all."

Aurora frowned, her annoyance growing. "The nurses said he would be here soon, but this isn’t what we planned. Lucas promised he’d be by my side, not missing like this."

Her voice wavered slightly, but her frustration remained. "Where is he?"

Ava placed a hand on her shoulder, trying to soothe her. "I’m sure something came up. You know Sir Lucas—he’ll be here as soon as he can."

Aurora sighed, her heart heavy. "It’s fine," she muttered, glancing down at Aria, who was resting peacefully in her arms. "What about Leo?"

Ava blinked in confusion. "Leo?"

"Yes," Aurora said, her voice firm. "My son. I had a boy first."

Ava’s brow furrowed. "I... I think you should speak to the doctor. I’ll go get him."

Ava quickly exited the room, leaving Aurora with a gnawing sense that something was terribly wrong.

A few minutes later, Dr. Evans entered the room with Ava beside him.

He gave Aurora a calm smile, though his expression was serious. "Aurora, I understand you’re asking about a second child?"

Aurora nodded, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Yes. I had my son first, then Aria."

Dr. Evans cleared his throat gently. "I’m afraid there’s been a misunderstanding. There was an ultrasound error—there was only one baby. You delivered a healthy girl, and that’s it."

Aurora stared at him, her voice rising. "What? No! I had Leo first, then Aria. I remember the nurses clearly saying, ’It’s a boy,’ then ’It’s a girl.’"

Dr. Evans shook his head. "I assure you, nothing like that happened. You only delivered a girl."

"Call the nurse!" Aurora demanded, her frustration boiling over. "I want her to confirm what I remember."

Dr. Evans nodded, signaling to the nurse, who arrived shortly after.

The nurse confirmed what Dr. Evans had said. "It was only one child, a baby girl," the nurse stated.

Aurora’s head began to pound as a sharp headache struck her.

She pressed her hand to her forehead, feeling exhaustion creep in, but she pushed it aside.

"No," she muttered. "I know what I remember. Leo was born first."

Dr. Evans placed a hand on her chart. "Aurora, I think it’s best if you rest. Ava will take care of everything."

Aurora shook her head.

"No," she said firmly. "I don’t have time to rest when my baby is missing."

Ava looked at her, concerned, but Aurora was resolute.

She turned to Dr. Evans. "I want access to the hospital’s CCTV footage. I want to see what happened during my delivery and in this ward."

Dr. Evans paled slightly. "I’m afraid that’s against hospital policy. We don’t release CCTV footage to patients."

Aurora’s gaze hardened, her voice dropping to a dangerous tone. "Then I suggest you speak to the administration. Let’s see if they’ll really deny me access when I’m trying to find my missing child."

Dr. Evans gulped, visibly nervous. "O-Okay, I’ll... I’ll speak to them. Please, just give me a moment."

He hurried out of the room, clearly unsettled.

Later, Aurora was led to the hospital’s security office with Dr. Evans.

Ava stayed behind in the ward with Aria, as Aurora trusted her to take care of her daughter.

Ava had proven to be a reliable support in the past, and despite initially declining Ava’s offer to be the baby’s sitter, Aurora had eventually agreed.

Ava had managed both roles perfectly, and Aurora knew she could trust her with Aria.

In the security office, the footage played, showing Aurora’s delivery.

As the cry of the first baby echoed through the room, Aurora leaned forward. "That’s exactly how I remembered it. My boy came first."

The footage continued, and the cry of the second baby followed.

Aurora’s eyes narrowed.

Then, the screen showed a nurse walking out of the ward with a baby wrapped in a blanket, her steps hurried and suspicious.

Aurora’s heart pounded in her chest as she pointed to the screen. "That’s him! My son! That nurse took him!"

Dr. Evans stared at the footage in shock. "That nurse..."

He leaned in closer. "I don’t recognize her. She’s not from our hospital."

Aurora turned to him, her eyes blazing with fury. "So much for your hospital policy. Your nurse kidnapped my son!"

Dr. Evans swallowed hard, clearly rattled. "I swear, I’ve never seen her before."

The footage continued, showing the mysterious nurse exiting the hospital and placing the baby into a car before driving off.

Aurora’s jaw clenched as she took out her phone, her fingers trembling with anger.

She dialed a number, and within moments, the call was answered.

"Derek," she said, her voice steady and firm, "I need you to help me track down a car with the following plate number: ZXT 9481. I want the location immediately."

Without waiting for a response, Aurora leaned back in the chair, her expression cold and resolute.

She wasn’t going to rest until she found her son.
