Chapter 113: Keep Dreaming

The meeting proceeded with a seamless flow.

The vacant positions within the Grey pack were filled with no shortage of applause and nods of approval from the audience.

The elder, still standing on the podium, held up a hand, signaling for the room’s attention.

"And now," he announced with a subtle smile, "we turn our focus to the matter of a new Alpha for the Grey pack."

Hades watched from his seat, a relaxed gleam in his eyes, almost as if he found the whole procedure amusing.

He leaned back, his arms crossed, his posture exuding a calm detachment.

It was clear to anyone who looked that Hades was unconcerned about this particular nomination; he had his eyes set on something far grander—the title of Alpha King.

Lucas, seated a few rows beside Hades, watched the proceedings with quiet focus.

His gaze, however, occasionally strayed to Hades, reading the ease and anticipation in his expression.

Lucas’s own interest mirrored Hades’s; like so many others seated here, he, too, had his sights on the Alpha King position.

It was a title that had been contested fiercely through generations, with the Rossi and Grey families locked in an unending rivalry over the Alpha King crown.

Although the Grey family had held it five times, this only fueled the Rossi family’s determination to one day claim it back.

Aurora, seated distant from Lucas, observed the room with a thoughtful silence.

Her gaze shifted between Lucas and the other high-ranking Alphas present, aware of the eagerness that filled the room.

Her thoughts, however, were not on the present moment.

She couldn’t help but imagine her son, Leo, as an adult.

Someday, he would be recognized as the Alpha King, because he was chosen by the moon goddess herself.

Aurora knew the title would bring its own set of challenges, likely even more intense rivalries and threats.

Protecting Leo was her first and only priority, and she had no desire to chase after the title herself.

It would only bring undue danger to her family.

Aurora let out a soft sigh, pushing her worries aside, and focused back on the ceremony.

In the front row, a scattering of clapping caught Aurora’s attention, breaking her from her thoughts.

She noticed several Gammas and Betas of the Grey pack smiling and clapping enthusiastically.

Her brows furrowed as she tried to piece together what was happening.

"What’s going on?" she muttered under her breath.

The elder on the podium cleared his throat and raised his voice. "Please join me in welcoming Alpha Finn to the podium."

Aurora watched as Finn stood from his seat, a smile on his face, and began walking toward the stage.

The applause grew as he made his way forward, and the Gammas and Betas exchanged approving glances with each other, visibly pleased with the decision.

A sudden realization washed over Aurora, and her heart swelled with pride.

Finn—her stepbrother—had been chosen as the new Alpha of the Grey pack.

The thought warmed her, and she joined in the applause, clapping for him wholeheartedly.

Finn’s journey to this point hadn’t been easy, and she genuinely wished him success.

As he reached the podium, Finn glanced around the room, his expression confident yet humble.

"Thank you, everyone," he began, his voice carrying across the hall. "It’s an honor to serve as the Alpha of the Grey pack. I promise to lead with integrity, as I have always done for my own pack, and to work alongside each of you to build a better future."

Aurora’s smile widened.

Finn’s dedication was unmistakable, and his words resonated deeply with the crowd.

For a moment, he looked her way, catching her gaze.

She offered him a proud smile, her eyes warm with encouragement.

But instead of returning her look, Finn’s expression hardened slightly, and he looked away, almost as if he hadn’t seen her.

Aurora’s smile faltered, a pang settling in her chest.

Had she done something to offend him?

Her mind drifted to memories of their childhood, of the times her brothers had stood by her through thick and thin.

But now, that bond seemed frayed, leaving her with a lingering sadness.

She bit her lip, holding back the ache that had started to build.

Finn stepped down from the podium to a final round of applause, his face still composed, and returned to his seat.

As the crowd quieted, the elder resumed his place on the podium, his gaze sweeping across the room.

"Now," he said, his tone shifting, "we move to the position everyone has been waiting for—the title of Alpha King."

A hush fell over the hall.

The anticipation was evident, the quiet so absolute that one could hear even the slightest sound.

Every eye was fixed on the elder, and even the man sitting next to Aurora, his face hidden beneath a dark face cap, leaned forward with interest.

The elder surveyed the audience before he spoke, "As announced to all high-ranking Alphas, a vote was conducted last evening to determine the top candidates for Alpha King."

Several heads nodded in agreement, affirming the elder’s words.

The council had sent notifications the previous night, informing each Alpha of the voting process.

Now, the results hung in the air, everyone waiting with bated breath.

The elder continued, his voice measured and deliberate. "The voting revealed four top nominees, whom I will now introduce. These names are not listed in order of votes received, but rather in the order of our council’s review."

Hades, seated in the front row, smirked, his confidence evident.

He knew his name would be called.

A surge of pride filled him, and he felt the urge to glance over at Lucas, just to gloat.

Gabriel, seated beside Lucas, caught Hades’s stare and leaned close to his boss.

He murmured in a low voice, "Seems like Hades has his eye on you, sir. He’s been staring over here for a while now."

Lucas turned his head slightly, catching Hades’s smirk.

Lucas’s expression didn’t falter; instead, he allowed a smirk of his own to surface, his eyes gleaming with silent challenge.

Hades’s expression flickered, the hint of Lucas’s confidence unsettling him just a bit.

Lucas may not be able to stand, but there was something about his unwavering gaze that made Hades scoff inwardly.

"Keep dreaming," Hades thought, quickly turning his attention back to the elder.
