Divorced and Chased by My Alpha Billionaire Ex-Husband -
Chapter 107: Manage His Memories
Chapter 107: Manage His Memories
It had been a few days since the argument, and Julia was on edge.
Each passing hour only heightened her frustration.
Lucas had barely spoken to her since their confrontation, and what was worse, he had stopped accepting anything she gave him.
Food, drinks—everything.
She felt like she was living with a stranger, not her husband.
Now, as she stormed down the hallway of the hospital, her heels clicking loudly against the polished floor, Julia could feel her patience wearing thin.
When she reached the door to the doctor’s office, she didn’t bother knocking.
Instead, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The doctor, a thin man with salt-and-pepper hair, looked up from his desk, raising an eyebrow at her sudden entrance.
He seemed curious, intrigued even, by her appearance.
"Mrs. Rossi," he greeted her, leaning back in his chair. "I wasn’t expecting you today. What can I do for you?"
Julia ignored the pleasantries, crossing her arms over her chest as she fixed him with a hard look.
"What’s going on with Lucas?" she demanded, her voice clipped.
The doctor straightened in his seat, his curiosity deepening.
He could see the annoyance radiating from her, but he wasn’t entirely sure what had sparked it.
"I’m not sure I follow," he said carefully. "Has there been a complication with his condition?"
Julia let out a sharp breath, clearly trying to keep herself from snapping.
"He’s stopped eating," she said, her eyes narrowing. "He won’t touch anything I give him. He’s barely talking to me, and it’s like he’s completely dissociated himself from me. What happened?"
The doctor leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk.
"Stopped eating, you say?" He paused, trying to piece together what could have caused such a shift in Lucas’s behavior. "When did this start?"
"Right after the argument we had a few days ago," Julia said, her voice tight. "I apologized. I tried to make things right, but he’s only pulling further away. It’s like he doesn’t trust me anymore. I need to know why."
The doctor’s expression changed slightly as he recalled the last time Lucas had come to see him.
The confrontation.
The fear that had gripped him.
He had tried to stay composed, but in that moment, he had slipped—he had said more than he should have.
"Mrs. Rossi," he began slowly, "when Mr. Rossi came to see me the other day, something... happened." He hesitated, trying to gauge her reaction.
Julia’s eyes sharpened, her annoyance growing more visible.
"What exactly happened?" she pressed.
The doctor cleared his throat, looking increasingly uncomfortable.
"I may have... accidentally let something slip. Out of fear," he admitted, his voice lowering. "It was a brief comment, nothing significant, but... I told him you were monitoring his health."
The room fell silent for a moment as Julia processed what he had just said.
Her eyes narrowed even further, and the annoyance on her face deepened into something colder, sharper.
"You told him what?" she hissed.
The doctor shifted in his seat, realizing he might have made things worse.
"I didn’t mean to," he said quickly. "He barged in, and I was caught off guard. It was just a slip of the tongue—"
"A slip of the tongue?" Julia’s voice was low, controlled, but there was an edge to it that made the doctor uneasy. "Do you have any idea what you’ve done?"
The doctor held up his hands in a placating gesture, trying to calm her down before things escalated further.
"Mrs. Rossi, please—listen. Mr. Lucas doesn’t know everything." He lowered his voice, leaning in as if to share a secret. "He doesn’t know about the other part."
Julia’s expression shifted slightly. "What other part?" she asked, her voice still cold, but there was a flicker of curiosity now.
The doctor exhaled, relieved that she was still willing to listen.
"He’s not aware that you’ve been... putting certain medications in his food," the doctor said cautiously. "He has no idea about the drugs."
At those words, Julia’s posture softened, the anger melting away just a little.
She felt a sense of relief, though not entirely.
If Lucas didn’t know about the drugs, that meant she still had some control, still had a way to manage his memories without him suspecting.
But it didn’t explain why he had distanced himself so much after the argument.
Julia sank into one of the chairs opposite the doctor, her mind racing.
"If he doesn’t know about the drugs, then why is he acting like this? Why is he pulling away?" She shook her head, frustration creeping back into her voice. "After that confrontation, I apologized. I told him I was sorry. I didn’t want to lose him."
The doctor listened, frowning slightly as he considered her words. "Perhaps it’s more than just what I said," he suggested. "The argument itself might have triggered something deeper. It’s possible he’s reevaluating his relationship with you..."
Julia bit her lip, her mind churning.
She had apologized because she had to, not because she meant it.
Losing Lucas meant losing everything—the life she had built, the comfort, the wealth.
She had no choice but to fix things with him, to keep him tied to her.
But something was going wrong.
She could feel it.
"It doesn’t make sense," she muttered, almost to herself. "Lucas never distanced himself like this before. I’ve always been able to pull him back, to smooth things over. But now... it’s like he’s slipping through my fingers."
The doctor nodded thoughtfully.
"It’s possible the confrontation brought up more than you realize," he said carefully. "If he’s distancing himself emotionally, it might be his way of regaining control over his life, especially if he feels you’ve been too involved in his personal matters."
Julia’s jaw tightened.
The last thing she wanted was for Lucas to gain control.
That would ruin everything.
She needed him dependent, vulnerable.
The drugs had ensured his compliance for a while, but now that he wasn’t eating her meals, her plan was falling apart.
"What do you suggest I do?" Julia asked, her tone sharp again. "If he won’t take anything from me anymore, I can’t keep doing what I’ve been doing. And if he finds out about the drugs..."
The doctor frowned, thinking it over.
"It’s risky," he admitted. "If Mr. Rossi finds out about the medications, it could cause irreparable damage to your relationship. But for now, he doesn’t know. If you want to regain his trust, you may need to change your approach."
Julia scoffed, crossing her arms. "Change my approach? What does that even mean?"
The doctor hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "Perhaps it’s time to give him space. Let him come to you, rather than pushing him. If you try to force him back into the routine, he might resist even more. Sometimes, stepping back can be the best way to pull someone closer."
Julia’s eyes narrowed again. "So, what? You want me to just sit back and watch him drift away?"
"I’m saying," the doctor replied calmly, "that if you push too hard, you might lose him altogether."
Julia fell silent, her thoughts swirling as she considered his advice.
She didn’t like it.
She had never been the type to sit back and wait for things to come to her. She took control, made things happen.
But now, it seemed like that very control was slipping through her fingers, no matter what she did.
"I don’t like this," she muttered, mostly to herself. "I don’t like any of this."
The doctor stood, walking around his desk to stand next to her.
"Mrs. Rossi," he said gently, "I understand that this situation is difficult. But if you want to save your marriage, you need to be careful. Lucas is in a fragile place right now, and if you push too hard, it could break everything."
Julia said nothing, just stared at the floor, her mind churning with conflicting thoughts.
She wanted to control the situation, to pull Lucas back into her orbit, but now it seemed like the more she tried, the further he slipped away.
Finally, she stood, smoothing down the front of her dress as she composed herself.
"I’ll think about what you said," she said curtly, turning toward the door.
The doctor nodded. "If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to reach out."
Julia paused for a moment, her hand resting on the doorknob.
Without turning back, she muttered, "Alright."
With that, she opened the door and stepped out, her mind already racing with new plans.
Whatever it took, she wasn’t about to lose Lucas.
