Chapter 101: Sit Better

Lucas swallowed hard, struggling to find his voice.

"Leo?" he managed, his voice rough from sleep.

Leo nodded, his little face breaking into a faint smile. "Mommy said you were really tired. But I wanted to make sure you were okay."

Lucas blinked, still trying to wrap his mind around the situation. "Your...your mommy?"

Leo nodded again, more confidently this time. "Mommy said you’re resting now, but you’ll be okay."

Lucas felt a strange warmth fill his chest, the confusion mingling with a deep sense of care for the child standing before him.

He didn’t know why Leo had called him Daddy again, but the word no longer felt out of place.

Instead, it felt...right.

Before he could say anything more, the door to his room creaked open, and Aurora stepped inside, her eyes immediately finding Leo.

"Leo, I told you to give Mr. Lucas some time to rest," she said softly, her tone gentle but firm.

She smiled apologetically at Lucas as she crossed the room.

"It’s okay," Lucas said, his voice still hoarse.

He glanced between Aurora and Leo, his head still spinning. "What...what happened?"

Aurora’s expression softened, and she moved closer to the bed, gently guiding Leo to stand beside her. "You blacked out in the car. Gabriel brought you back here, and the doctor came to check on you. He said you were just exhausted, probably from everything that’s happened."

Lucas frowned, trying to piece it together.

The last thing he remembered was the flash of memories in the car—the mansion, the woman in the nightgown, the kiss.

His headache flared again, and he winced, rubbing his temple.

Aurora noticed and sat down on the edge of the bed. "You should rest more, Mr. Lucas. You’ve been through a lot."

Leo tugged on Aurora’s sleeve, looking up at her with wide eyes. "Mommy, can Daddy rest with me?"

Aurora smiled at him softly, brushing a hand through his hair. "He needs to rest here for now, sweetie. Maybe later, okay?"

Lucas’s heart skipped a beat at the word Daddy again, but this time, he didn’t correct it.

He just watched as Aurora comforted Leo, his mind filled with questions.

But for now, seeing Leo’s innocent concern and Aurora’s calm presence, he allowed himself to relax.

"Yeah," Lucas muttered, leaning against the pillows properly. "Maybe later."

Together, Aurora and Leo moved toward the door.

Aurora guided Leo out of the room, her hand on his shoulder. "We’ll check on him later, sweetie."

As she shut the door softly behind her, she turned to face Leo, who was still staring at the closed door, his little brow furrowed in thought.

"Leo," she began gently, crouching down to his level, "you need to stop calling Mr. Lucas your daddy. If someone else hears you, it could cause... misunderstandings."

Leo’s face scrunched up in confusion. "But, Mommy, he is my daddy. I know he is." His voice was soft but filled with certainty.

Aurora sighed, brushing a strand of hair away from his forehead. "Yes, sweetheart, I know. But Mr. Lucas doesn’t know that. He’s lost his memory. He doesn’t even remember me or anything about... us."

Leo tilted his head, his eyes searching hers for answers. "So... Daddy forgot us?"

Aurora nodded, her heart heavy.

She tried to keep her voice steady. "Yes, Leo. He doesn’t remember you or me right now. It’s not that he doesn’t care; it’s just that his mind is... confused."

Leo was quiet for a moment, processing her words in a way that felt beyond his years.

Finally, he looked up at her, his expression serious. "Then we need to help him remember, Mommy. We can help him know he’s our daddy."

Aurora’s heart ached at his earnestness.

She wished it were that simple. "I wish it were that easy, baby. But it’s... complicated. Right now, you need to focus on resting, okay? You and Aria have had a long day, and your sister’s already asleep."

Leo looked like he wanted to protest, but eventually, he sighed, nodding. "Alright, Mommy."

Aurora kissed his forehead and gently guided him to his room, hoping that by the time they returned, things would somehow make more sense.

The next morning, Lucas stirred, the first thing he noticed was the soft whisper of voices.

He opened his eyes slowly, blinking against the sunlight that streamed into the room.

As his vision cleared, two pairs of bright blue eyes stared back at him—Leo and Aria, both standing beside his bed.

"Good morning, Daddy!" they chorused, their voices full of innocent excitement.

Lucas blinked, caught off guard by the greeting.

But instead of confusion, he felt a strange sense of warmth and familiarity wash over him.

His lips curved into a smile, almost instinctively. "Good morning, you two."

His voice was soft, but it carried a note of fondness that surprised even him.

It felt... natural, as if this wasn’t the first time he’d woken up to those little children.

He shifted, trying to sit up, but a sharp ache in his body made him pause.

His muscles felt stiff and heavy, and he couldn’t seem to muster the strength to lift himself.

His legs remained still, unresponsive as always.

Leo noticed immediately. "Daddy, are you okay?"

Lucas forced a smile. "I’m fine, buddy. Just... a little stuck."

He tried to laugh it off, but the effort of trying to move was taking its toll.

Without hesitation, Leo and Aria moved to his side, their small hands tugging at his arms to help pull him up.

"We’ll help you!" Leo declared proudly.

Together, they managed to lift him enough for him to sit up properly.

Once Lucas was settled, Leo and Aria scrambled to adjust the pillows behind him, their little faces serious with concentration as they made sure he was comfortable.

"There," Aria said, her voice small but satisfied. "Now you can sit better, Daddy."

Lucas leaned back against the pillows, looking at the two of them with a mixture of amazement and confusion. "Thanks, you two. You’re very good at this."
