Chapter 41: Body Enchantment
Mr. Joe furrowed his eyebrows, "Are you sure you want to carry out the procedure now?" Worry filled his tone.
"Have you even created the world cores with the technique I taught you?" He asked again seemingly looking for excuses for Logan not to go through with it.
"To answer both your questions, yes. I am sure I want to do it and I have carried out the technique." Logan nodded his head in response.
Pausing for a second, Logan continued, "As we speak I have five world cores in me." He finished.
"Oh really? Where then?" Mr. Joe asked.
Raising a finger, Logan pointed to his legs, forearms, and upper back.
"Fine. There seems to be no reason to deny you this." Mr. Joe sighed before getting up.
Walking out the door, he gestured to Logan.
"Follow me." He walked out of the room followed by Logan.
The two left the academy building and headed into the forest.
Heading deeper than Logan had not dared to explore on his own, he looked around trying as much as possible to memorize the path.
"This was a health facility that was abandoned, now it serves as where we will attempt to enchant your body." Mr. Joe explained as a run down building appeared in their sights.
Squinting his eyes, Logan could notice the broken glass and moss that grew against the forsaken structure.
It was like any other building in the academy just dull grey with vegetation growing around and on it.
"Why exactly was this place abandoned?" Logan watched his step carefully as he walked.
As far as he knew, a snake could be the least of his issues.
Mr. Joe stopped just shy of the entrance that nestled pure darkness.
"Not too sure myself. Something about an experiment gone wrong." Mr. Joe laughed it off before entering.
With still cautious steps, Logan followed.
Mr. Joe waved his hand and a small orb of light left his hand to illuminate the place.
’What in the-?’ Logan pondered as he saw the orb, he would find out later.
Coming into Logan’s view was something far worse than what was outside.
Dried, skeletal corpses laid around with most of them in bizarre positions and conditions.
The actual floor of the place had short grasses in some parts and some kind of purple mushroom in others.
All things considered, it was a working ecosystem.
Turning his focus to the corpses, Logan could see some with three arms fused into one socket.
One even had hands coming out of the eye socket.
But that wasn’t the worst part. All corpses had agonized expressions.
Some had head scratches so hard that it damaged their skull leaving it with hand prints.
A shiver ran down Logan’s spine as he subconsciously walked closer to his teacher.
"Calm down, these are just abnormalities. Probably." He shrugged his shoulders and Logan pretended not to hear the ending of his sentence.
"Oh, would you calm down? I’ve been here dozens of times and nothing happened. Well, there was that... You know what? There’s nothing here." Mr. Joe turned to Logan before heading up a flight of stairs.
"That’s right. Before I forget, as we walk up these stairs, if you hear your name, don’t turn around." His eyes turned serious.
"Apart from that you should be fine." Mr. Joe went back to laughing.
Together, they walked up flight after flight of stairs until they reached their destination.
Walking into a long corridor, Mr. Joe stretched and popped his back.
"Man. These stairs were deadly. No wonder the teleportation rings are such a hit." He lamented before walking down the hall.
Seizing the opportunity, Logan looked at the hand where the orb had come from and saw a ring.
The ring was quite similar to the one he had seen on Aaron the first time they met only much more modest and less imposing.
He must have stared for too long because Mr. Joe pulled back his hand.
"You aren’t going to start saying ’My Precious’ are you?" Mr. Joe told a joke that Logan didn’t understand.
Glancing at the ring then at Logan, Mr. Joe smiled.
"This is a space ring. Very few mages have it so you most likely haven’t seen it before." He waved his fingers in front of Logan.
"There are three types: Energy storage, Normal, and Hybrid Storage." He walked off heading to a particular room.
Following him, Logan took mental notes of the brief explanation Mr. Joe was giving him.
"The first allows the wearer to store energy- spells. The second physical items and the last, both of them." Mr. Joe stopped in front of a closed door and opened it.
Entering the room, Logan could see numerous medical tables lined up all with thick straps.
"Now I’m not sure was this place was used for originally but..." He paused looking for a decent one.
"These straps are a godsend for those who want to enchant their bodies." Mr. Joe pushed most of the tables aside leaving only one the size of Logan.
"Come and lie on this. Don’t worry, you won’t contract any diseases... that have no cure." He tapped on the table.
’Does he hear himself at times? No wonder he had no students.’ Logan had an epiphany on the nature of his teacher’s lack of students.
Logan laid on it and gave Mr. Joe confirmation that he was ready.
"Now, are you sure that you want to do this now? There’s no going back." Mr. Joe asked for the last piece of Logan’s consent.
Nodding his head, Logan gave him the signal.
After pulling the straps and tying it around Logan, Mr. Joe waved his hand and the body of a beast appeared- the one that Logan killed.
"Where do you want the enchantments?" Mr. Joe’s voice turned serious with no trace of its usual humor.
"On my legs if possible," Logan replied with gritted teeth. He was anticipating the pain.
Letting out a sigh and a quiet prayer for his only student, Mr. Joe started the process.
