Chapter 63: Secrets And Suspects
Chapter 63: Secrets And Suspects
Samson and Thomas hesitated by the door, reluctant to open it.
"Why won’t you open the door? They’re just here to question us," Aiden said, getting up from the sofa and joining Samson and Thomas.
"Please, don’t open it," Samson whispered nervously, sweating as Aiden reached for the door handle.
Thomas, sensing Samson’s fear, moved closer and held his hand, whispering, "If you keep acting like this, the police will discover your secret. Stay calm."
Samson nodded, still trembling with fear despite his efforts to compose himself.
Aiden opened the door and Officers Blackwood and Johnson entered.
Officer Blackwood’s eyes scanned the room before settling on the teenagers. "Why did it take so long for you to open the door?" she asked.
Thomas quickly responded, "We were busy working on our assignments in the inner room."
Aiden felt a lump in his throat at Thomas’s lie but decided to play along. "Yes, why are you here? Did something happen?"
Officer Johnson then explained, "A student from your class was murdered this afternoon at the arena, so we are questioning all the students in the school. It won’t take long," he added, his tone stern and serious.
Samson, Thomas, and Aiden nodded in agreement as they were escorted out of the room by Officers Blackwood and Johnson and led downstairs.
Lucas, Mark, Olive, and Henry were still standing in front of the interrogation room when they noticed Aiden, Samson, and Thomas. They approached them.
"How are you guys?" Mark asked with a concerned look. "They’re interrogating all the students. Desmond was murdered at the arena."
"Yeah, and I’m the prime suspect," Lucas started to say before Officer Johnson interrupted with a stern voice.
"I didn’t bring you here for chit-chat. Go back to your classrooms. Your friends will join you after we finish interrogating them."
"Arthur, you haven’t been interrogated yet, but you can also go to your classroom. I’ll call you later," Officer Blackwood added, prompting Lucas, Olive, and Henry to head to their classroom.
Aiden was the first person to be interrogated and was led into the interrogation room.
"Can you tell me where you were in the last two hours?" Officer Blackwood asked.
"I was with Lucas. When I arrived at the competition arena with Samson and Thomas, I told them I was going to look for Lucas and Mark," Aiden replied.
"What happened next?" Officer Blackwood inquired, her eyebrows raised in curiosity.
"I found Lucas at the swimming pool. He was upset because his mom chose Desmond over him," Aiden explained.
"Do you know why his mom chose Desmond over him?" Officer Johnson asked.
"Desmond was responsible for Lucas’s sister’s death. When Lucas saw Desmond back at school, he felt terrible. He asked his mom to remove Desmond from school, but she refused, which devastated Lucas," Aiden clarified.
"Did Lucas push Desmond into the pool because of this?" Officer Johnson questioned.
"No, I was with Lucas the whole time, and we didn’t see Desmond at the pool. Even when we went to the trophies room to take Desmond and Henry’s trophy, we didn’t encounter Desmond," Aiden stated.
"Why did you both take the trophy?" Officer Blackwood probed.
"Lucas was frustrated and wanted to express his anger. He couldn’t stand seeing the face of the person who murdered his sister everyday in school and even at the competition arena smiling after winning the music competition organized by hid family hence we both stole the trophy, broke it, and threw it into the pool out of frustration. I couldn’t stop him; he needed to let out his emotions," Aiden explained.
"So you’re saying you didn’t see Desmond or push him into the pool, knowing he couldn’t swim?" Officer Johnson clarified.
"I swear i didn’t see Desmond till we left the arena. Lucas and I didn’t see him at the pool either till we left the arena," Aiden affirmed confidently.
"Alright, thank you for your time Aiden. We’ll contact you again if needed. Officer Johnson said as he escorted Aiden out of the interrogation room.
Next up was Samson, who was called in.
"Where were you in the last two hours?" Officer Blackwood asked, jotting down notes.
"I was with Thomas, but he later went to search for Lucas and Aiden," Samson said, his hands shaking under the table.
"You didn’t follow Thomas?" Officer Johnson inquired, raising an eyebrow.
"I did eventually, but I didn’t find any of them. I decided to wait for them in the car," Samson explained.
"You didn’t see Desmond either?" Officer Blackwood questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"I have no connection with Desmond, and no, I didn’t come across him. I was only looking for my twin brother, Lucas, and Aiden, but when I didn’t them, I decided to wait for them in the car," Samson nervously replied.
"It looks like you’ve been crying. Why is that?" Officer Johnson asked, noticing Samson’s red eyes and trembling body.
"Even though Desmond isn’t my friend, I wouldn’t wish death upon anyone. I can’t bear the thought of his family’s pain upon learning about his death," Samson replied, swallowing hard.
Officer Blackwood then placed a hand on his shoulder. "It’s okay, Samson. We will uncover the truth and ensure that the person responsible for Desmond’s death is held accountable."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Samson. We will reach out to you again if necessary," Officer Johnson said as he escorted Samson out of the interrogation room.
Next, it was Thomas’s turn to be questioned.
"So, where were you in the past two hours?" Officer Johnson inquired.
"I arrived at the competition arena with Samson and Aiden. Aiden went to search for Lucas and Mark, but he didn’t return on time, so I went to find them," Thomas nervously explained.
"Did you go with Thomas?" Officer Blackwood asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, I left on my own," Thomas replied.
"Did you see Lucas, Aiden, and Mark later on?" Officer Johnson questioned.
"No, I had to return to the car to meet Thomas, who was waiting there. We both waited in the car," Thomas disclosed.
"Did you encounter Desmond before his death?" Officer Johnson asked.
"No, I did not," Thomas replied confidently.
After exchanging glances, Officer Blackwood and Officer Johnson thanked Thomas for his cooperation and escorted him out of the interrogation room.
