Chapter 61: Trophy Of Death

Olive, Mark, and Henry were called by Officer Blackwood, sending waves of fear down their spines. The officer addressed them, stating that they were present at the crime scene and would be the starting point of the investigation.

The three teenagers exchanged nervous glances but then turned their attention back to the officers and nodded in agreement.

The officers escorted Olive, Mark, and Henry out of the classroom, their footsteps echoing in the silent hallway. The remaining students watched with bated breath, curious about what would unfold.

Mark was the first to be questioned, taken to a room with two chairs and a table while Olive and Henry waited outside.

"Mark, you were one of the last people to see Desmond alive," Officer Johnson stated, his gaze fixed on Mark. "Can you tell us what happened?"

Mark hesitated, carefully choosing his words. "We were discussing the competition results and decided to head back to school. Desmond mentioned he needed to use the restroom and said he would catch up with us."

"After waiting for a while with no sign of him, Olive, Henry, and I went to look for him and Lucas in the arena. That’s when we heard a splash and rushed to the pool, where we discovered Desmond’s body." He concluded.

Officer Johnson nodded. "Did you see anyone else around?"

Mark nervously looked at the officers. "No, we only saw Desmond’s body in the pool."

"You mentioned that Lucas was also missing, so you were searching for him. Did Lucas mention where he was going?" Officer Blackwood inquired.

"And Henry had accused him earlier of being the one who killed Desmond." Officer Johnson raised an eyebrow, waiting for a response.

"That’s nonsense. Lucas would never commit murder. Despite their past conflicts, Lucas wouldn’t resort to killing him," Mark replied firmly.

"Did Lucas mention where he was going?" Officer Blackwood inquired. "What if he left with the intention of harming Desmond?"

"No, he just said he was leaving. I don’t know where he went. I thought we would return to school together after the competition, but I found him at school instead," Mark explained. "But I don’t believe Lucas would ever harm anyone."

"Interesting," Officer Blackwood responded with a sigh. "You can’t tell me that Lucas is innocent then. "He didn’t tell you where he was going because he doesn’t want to let you know meanwhile he actually went to kill Desmond."

"Lucas can never kill someone. It’s possible that Henry could be responsible for Desmond’s death. Maybe he wanted to be the one to go on the scholarship, hence the reason why he killed Desmond," Mark suggested seriously.

Officer Blackwood and Officer Johnson exchanged a glance before refocusing on Mark.

"Thank you for your cooperation, Mark. We may need to speak with you again later," Officer Blackwood said, escorting Mark out of the room.

The next person to be interrogated was Henry, who was led into the room by Officer Blackwood.

"Tell us about your relationship with Desmond," Officer Blackwood asked with a serious tone.

Henry hesitated, tears still streaming down his cheeks. "He’s my best friend," he managed to say.

"Did you really kill your best friend Desmond over a scholarship?" Officer Johnson’s question shocked Henry.

"No way! I would never kill my best friend over a scholarship," Henry replied firmly.

"Then why did you kill him? Was it because of something else? I heard you were bullied by Lucas after Desmond killed Lucas’s sister and was sent to prison. Did you take revenge on Desmond for all the pain you endured because of him?" Officer Blackwood questioned, her eyes fixed on Henry.

"No! Desmond was my best friend and I would never harm him. I had intended to let him have the scholarship. I was already prepared to give it up. Henry confessed.

"It was Lucas who killed Desmond. I had a feeling he would do it." Henry sobbed.

"And why do you think that?" Officer Johnson inquired. " Lucas wasn’t at the crime scene."

"Lucas and Desmond were enemies. Lucas issued another red card as soon as Desmond arrived at the school. He warned all students not to associate with Desmond or face consequences" Henry revealed with tears streaming down his cheeks.

"I believe he killed Desmond because the principal, Mr. Philip, had threatened to expel anyone who harmed Desmond, so Lucas chose to take matters into his own hands outside of school grounds." he added.

" What does the red card signify?" Officer Johnson asked.

"The red card is a signal sent by the 3RM whenever a scholarship student crosses their boundaries. This leads to the scholarship student being bullied throughout the school year. Henry explained, still crying heavily.

"Arthur was the one who was punished for standing up for Desmond on his first day of school. This angered Lucas, leading to Arthur receiving a red card." Henry concluded.

Officers Blackwood and Johnson exchanged glances before turning their attention back to Henry.

"Thank you for your time, Henry. We will call you again if needed," Officer Johnson said as he escorted Henry out of the room.

Next, Lucas was brought in.

"Can you tell us where you went after the competition?" Officer Blackwood asked, focusing on Lucas.

"I went for a walk around the Arena. Just needed some fresh air," Lucas replied.

"Fresh air? Did you have any altercations on your way? And why did you choose to take a walk instead of returning to school immediately?" Officer Johnson inquired.

Lucas hesitated before responding. "I didn’t physically fight with anyone. I just felt a lot of anger inside me. My mom seemed to side with my enemy who is Desmond, which really got to me," he admitted with a smirk. "I couldn’t stand his smile, especially after he won the competition with his despicable friend."

Officers Blackwood and Johnson exchanged a knowing look before focusing back on Lucas.

"Did you kill Desmond because of this rivalry with him?" Officer Johnson asked, his tone serious. "You were unable to confront him at school, so you took matters into your own hands at the arena?"

"No way! I may have been frustrated, but that doesn’t mean I would resort to murder," Lucas replied with a heavy sigh. "I was just trying to clear my head by walking around

the arena."

"We found a trophy in the swimming pool with your fingerprints on it. Forensics indicate that it was used to strike Desmond before he was pushed into the pool," Officer Blackwood revealed, causing Lucas to tense up.

"It’s in your best interest to tell us the truth now," Officer Johnson added.
