Chapter 31: A Night To Remember..

Chapter 31: A Night To Remember..

A Honda SUV crunched up the driveway, and the group spilled out, gazing up at the mansion’s modern architecture. The facade gleamed in the evening light, its sleek lines and curves seeming to defy gravity. Tall windows reflected the perfectly manicured lawn and sparkling pool, the scent of freshly cut grass wafting through the air.

"Wow, Austin and Samuel really know how to throw a party," Mark exclaimed, his eyes scanning the scene music and laughter drifted from inside.

"And spare no expense," Aiden added, chuckling, the flash of his teeth catching the light.

"Samuel really loves to splurge his parents’ money. I can’t blame him though, his parents are hardly ever home, leaving him alone in the house, and his monthly allowance could probably feed a small country." Lucas chimed in with a burst of laughter.

"Let’s take a picture, Lara exclaimed excitedly as she spotted a photo booth. She then pulled Olive along with her by the arm.

"Those two appear to be more than just friends, possibly lovers," Aiden remarked, his eyes fixed on Mark, who in turn was gazing sadly at Olive and Lara. It seemed like someone’s heart would be broken upon discovering their true relationship.

"Shut up!" Mark snapped back before heading over to the photo booth with Lucas while Aiden followed.

The group took numerous photos together and then proceeded by entering the grand mansion.

The living room exuded elegance and sophistication, transformed into a lively party setting. Priceless artwork and rare tapestries adorned the walls, seemingly whispering tales of their own, while teenagers mingled and danced, their reflections bouncing off the polished marble floor.

Luxurious furniture, crafted from the finest materials and upholstered in plush fabrics, had been rearranged to make space for the DJ booth and dance floor, where partygoers moved to the rhythm of the music. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, as if the very air had been infused with the essence of a high-end celebration.

A bar featuring a signature cocktail and a flair bartender, a buffet filled with hors d’oeuvres and canapés, and a cake and dessert table with sweet treats occupied a corner of the living room.

"Let’s dance, Olive!" Lara exclaimed eagerly as she headed to the dance floor. "Come on bestie."

"You go ahead, I need to find Austin and Samuel to congratulate them," Olive replied, scanning the room for the two.

"Let’s check Samuel room, I’m sure they’re both going to be together" Mark suggested, though his real motive was to prevent Olive and Lara from spending too much time together.

Lucas, sensing Mark’s intentions and wanting him to have a chance to talk to Lara, chimed in, "I’ll go with Olive. I know where Samuel’s room is from my previous visits."

Olive agreed, and she and Lucas navigated through the crowd and up the stairs.

"Are you sure Lara is just a friend?" Lucas asked, his voice slightly muffled by the party noise, but still audible to Olive.

"She’s my friend, of course. Why do you ask?" Olive responded loud enough for Lucas to hear as she continued walking sideways with him.

"You two don’t look like friends. In fact, you look like you’re dating, which is hurting Mark’s feelings," Lucas revealed, causing Olive to stop in her tracks and face him.

"Hurting Mark’s feelings? What do you mean by that?" Olive questioned, her eyebrows raised in confusion.

"Mark seems to have a liking for Lara, I must say. It’s strange, but it’s true. Why else would he invite her to Austin and Samuel’s party if not to get to know her better?" Lucas disclosed.

"That’s absurd! I thought rich people didn’t associate with the less fortunate. Olive replied with a surprised expression and her hand placed on her chin.

"But I can say that Mark is different, reason i could see why he might like Lara. I’ll make sure to clarify to him that Lara and I are just friends, nothing more. Hopefully, that will ease his discomfort when he sees us together," she added with a smile before resuming her walk with Lucas by her side.

"You’re right about one thing. Only Mark would be drawn to someone like Lara. He usually dates celebrity daughters, but now he’s interested in a girl from a humble background. Aiden was right about something when he mentioned Mark’s changing taste in women," Lucas remarked with a light chuckle. " I wonder what’s so special about your friend that’s making Mark drawn to her? She’s not even that beautiful."

"Be quiet! I won’t stand by while you insult my best friend," Olive snapped, her eyes flashing with anger as she suddenly stood rooted in front a polished wooden door, backing it.

Lucas stepped closer, causing Olive to nervously swallow as she felt his warm breath on her face.

"What are you doing?" Olive asked, her eyes locked with Lucas’s, her knuckles turning white from gripping her trousers tightly.

With a smirk on his face, Lucas lean closer to Olive, causing her to bend backward in an attempt to avoid his lips meeting hers, her only thought being that he was going to kiss her again.

Bang

!

The loud bang of the door Olive stood Infront of startled her, causing her to close her eyes in fear.

"Lucas! Are you trying to break down the door, you idiot?" Austin yelled with anger etched in his voice from inside the room. "And don’t you know how to knock?"

"What were you thinking?" Lucas asked with a smirk, his breath brushing over Olive’s face promting her to open her eyes only to turn around and see Lucas walking into the room.

Olive followed, closing the door behind her, feeling a bit embarrassed by her initial reaction but quickly cheered up as she sat next to Austin on the bed.

"How are you honey?" Austin asked, as he gaze at Olive. " You look so hot In that suit."

"Thank you! And you look great in that white tank top and black pants," Olive complimented, gently touching Austin’s face. "Where’s your boyfriend, by the way?"

"I’ve been trying to call his number, but it’s not going through. He told me he wants to step out to get something and now he isn’t back yet." Austin complained , staring at his phone screen while dialing Samuel’s number.

"Maybe he got caught up with something. He should be here soon." Olive said with a smile.

A loud wail suddenly shattered the atmosphere, creating tension and panic among Austin, Olive, and Lucas, who exchanged puzzled looks.

Lucas and Olive quickly approached the window to peek outside, and their eyes widened in fear at the police car packed Infront of the mansion.

"It’s the police! They’re entering the house." Olive annouced the situation, with fear written all over her face.

"What? How is that possible?" Austin exclaimed, joining Lucas and Olive at the window to see for himself.

Bang!

The loud bang on the door drew their attention, and they saw Mark, panting heavily and looking terrified at the entrance.

"What’s going on?" Olive asked with a concerned expression, her eyebrows raised in curiosity. "Why are the police here?"

"Samuel is dead," Mark gasped, the words hanging in the air like a challenge.
